Wine is good. Tequilla is also ok and so is Rum. There may be others. But I dont drink and only use for marinades. So you can google if no one else knows.
You should make sure any kind of "facial cream" "aftershave" that you put on your face is gluten-free. As well as your toothpaste. Crest. Dove brand is good for creams. And Burts Bees is also good. But check Burt's website. They have a "gluten free" page. Cuz kissing can get vigorous.

I believe I got glutened from "pre-sliced" fruit from a store. Better to buy "whole" fruit, wash and slice yourself.
Curry powders could have fillers with gluten in them. I wouldnt use them unless they list all ingredients. Things like "spices" are suspect. And "natural flavor". The curry powders could be a significant source of gluten.
You can find recipes online and make up your own curry powders and pastes. Dont know what "asian" area you are from. But Thai and Indian curries are easy to make from scratch without pre packaged powders and pastes.
I agree that ghee should be out for now. And I know you are tempted to add the milk. But I would wait. You can make ice cream from cashews, apples and (peaches) in a high powered blender. Adding some sweetener. You can even make yogurt out of your homemade almond milk. Some googling is in order.
I would recommend finding a few good recipe books with simple ingredients (not too complicated).
My daughter is loving the gluten-free baking I am doing.

I hope so too Home Based Mom.
I remember when avocados were the good fat, then they were bad, now they are good again......LOL
Hopefully no researcher or diet author will ever come up with a "gluten is good for you" diet. All it takes is one skewed study and some will run with it.

I agree that "fad diet" is different than "lifestyle" which denotes a permanent change. I guess food manufacturers will have to keep up with the "fad diets" to produce foods for people that are "choosing" for whatever reason. And we all benefit. Especially if more diet book authors shun wheat/dairy/gluten. Let's hope so!!

The Vitamix works really well. I still sift, just to be sure. But it is superfine. Yes. I hated to get rid of my old Vitamix that served me for 15 years. It still worked great! But it had gluten in it. So I bought a new one. I could have just bought new canisters, but for two of them it was like 200. And then I thought, if this "old" one breaks, I will have to invest in the whole thing all over. They arent cheap. But they do last.
And now I have a "back up" engine.
One thing I like is that you can make 6 cups of flour at one time. This is a savings. Coffee grinder takes forever to do this much.

I posted this in another thread a few days ago, I agree that it was good until I got to "lifestyle" choice. Who on earth would choose this lifestyle?

I got a new kitchen at the same time Dx. So it is 100% gluten free. I got lucky here.
My family DH and DD agreed, no gluten in the house. We set up a "station" in the garage for gluten products. We used the old refridgerator and microwave, toaster and set them up out there with a table. They can then eat outside of the garage in a patio area. It has worked out very well. And I have found that they rarely bother to eat gluten foods anymore. They just eat gluten-free inside.

Such wonderful news!! It will just keep getting better.
People say insensitive things sometimes. I have done it myself. It comes from speaking before reviewing your thoughts. It is rarely mean spirited. Your neighbor's comment stems from their own insecurities about their weight. It has nothing at all to do with your daughter. So I have tried very hard to let comments like this just float away and still like the person who said it. Knowing where it comes from helps.

I can tell you that you are not alone. I am around 8 weeks in and I have ups and downs. Had a really bad week last, but feeling pretty good today. And no migraines in the last 6 weeks!!! Yeah!!!
Hang in there....it is normal to not heal on a constant incline.

And she may need to cut out DAIRY, at least for right now. She can reintroduce it later. But my understanding is the tips of the villi in her intestines are compromised and it is those tips that produce lactase, the enzyme that helps digest milk. Casein which is also in milk bothers a lot of celiacs. And some can never eat it again.
I agree to keep it simple: leans meats, steamed veggies, small amounts of fruit, rice, potoatoes, sweet potatoes are very nourishing and healing.

That is interesting Pete. And makes sense that there would not be a standard "normal" reading. I dont actively "worry" about my blood sugar. But I do keep tabs on it. I get regular blood work annually. And with he meter, I only spot check. And this might sound funny, but if I feel tired during the day and want to take a nap, I sometimes check it. If it is on the higher side, I take a walk instead and this refreshes me. If it is lower, I will nap which refreshes me. Maybe that is all in my head, but it seems to work for me.

Awesome Susie!!! Congratulations.

I have had a monitor for 12 years. I get a new one every year. I am not diabetic. But both my Grammy's were. I keep close tabs on it.
Keep in mind that the meters are not 100% accurate. They can be off by as much as 10 % - 20% either way. They are just used as a guideline. So dont panic if you get a 140 reading. You might not be "damaging" your organs. It could really only be 126. When this happens to me, I just restest in an hour to make sure it has gone down to "normal". And it always does. I dont get those high readings very often. And my fasting is always around 80 with labwork. and my HbA1c is 5.2. So I am good.
I just had a complete diabetes panel. It tested blood and urine. Tested like 15 different things. Very informative.

I am a neat freak. My 12 y.o. DD is the exact opposite. For awhile it caused a lot of tension between us. I hated the tension far more than the messy room I decided. So now, we just have a few rules and I leave her alone otherwise. The floor must be clear of debris (fire safety). No food or drink allowed. And once a week she must empty her hamper. Every 2 weeks she must bring her linens to be washed. I just let the rest go. I accept her the way she is. Yes, sometimes it smells like gym socks in there....but hey, I dont have to sleep in there.

I actually treid shopping online since the gluten-free is new to me, so I typed in all the foods that I am allergic to and gluten-free it came out with baby wipes. I wonder what that tastes like
That made me laugh. And I needed it!!
Yes, look at my signature. And Ive also just cut citrus for a trial. But I am eating well. I cannot complain. Well I could. But tonight it is homemade meatballs with a new pasta sauce I found that is Nightshade free and rice pasta. Yummy!!

Thanks CarolAnne!!!

I have used a coffee grinder, but then I sift it through a fine strainer to get out any larger bits. You dont want to hit those in your muffins. But now I have a Vita-Mix with a grain grinding canister. Works great!

Yes I know candidase, I've heard some good words about it (people say it works) but I can't find it in Athens.
Any way I guess I'll run these stool tests first and then if there is actually a candida problem I'll go back to my olive leaf extract....
I just don't trust doctors any more...you know what I mean.....
Did you experience dying off? I did and it was terrible and I think that maybe the blood tests were not right cause I did them after several days of taking antifungals already....
This is only day 2 of Candidase. So I will let you know. So far, no die-off. Then again, I only have very mild elevations. I am hoping this alone just gets me back in check. I never had problems with it before. Also, Colloidal Silver kills them very effectively. But it is not for long term use. 6 weeks tops would be all I would do. Red Clover tea helps with die-off. Drinking lots of it. So if I feel it happening, I will go buy some of the tea and drink it all day.

It was never my intention to offend anyone. I apologize to anyone who has been offended by my verbiage in this thread. I have asked the moderators to remove any offensive posts. Perhaps my discontent with Doctors should be left off of this forum.

I showed some very mild candida in my last stool and a very mild reaction with IgG ELISA. So I am taking a product called: Candidase

I did some research and it makes a lot of sense to me the way it works. Since I am very "mild" with it, this should take care of it pretty well. And at the same time taking lots of pre and pro-biotics.

Well shut my mouth, I am going to try that tortilla recipe! sweet!
You can also make them with other grains. Teff is interesting. You can try mixing amaranth with sorghum. That tastes a bit like corn to me. Which is nice cuz I cant have corn.

I like to see articles that bring awareness. So hope "gluten" gets added to the list of foods that manufacturers must disclose. There is one line about how many people only "think" they have an intolerance and that for them it is a "lifestyle choice" to eat foods free of certain ingredients. Dont agree with that. Who would choose this lifestyle? But other than that.....

Look Im not going to argue with you. 97 degrees isnt normal. Especially if you are freezing in the heat of the Florida Summer. Male doctors tend to dismiss female patients. And I see a gender biased response in here too. When your temperature used to run close to 98.6 and it drops to barely 97 and you are freezing all of the time and your Endocrinologist says it is normal and if you are 98.6 you have a fever, he my friend is a complete and utter idiot. Especially when all it took for a "real doctor" to do was talk to me and assess my symptoms. Prescribe replacement therapy and wait for the good results. Which happened.
Most Endocrinologists are useless. You can go to one, but you have been warned. A good doctor that will actually listen to you is worth more than a million so called specialists.

Those charts do not really tell us anything. Of course different studies will report different findings. Of course.
What I want to know is the status of every single person's thyroid in those studies. They say xxxx "healthy individuals". Yeah right!! What is "healthy"??
If you have dealt with hypothyroid and correlated it to your body temperature. And then with adequate treatment saw that closer to 98.6 gets rid of symptoms....you would understand. When my temp is 97 I cannot move from the bed. When it is above 98 I can move. When it is 98.6 - 99 I feel "normal". And this is the testimony of many hypothyroid patients. That doctor was bad. If not for his lack of text book experience, his clinical. There is a reason that hypothyroid individuals feel "cold" all of the time. They are.

Hi Layne,
I read your story. I work from home as an artist. I can come in here while paint dries.
Bravo!! For taking your health into your hands. Researching and finding what was causing your problems. I feel kinship reading your life story. And I am sure many of us feel the same. I am sorry you went through all of that, but know that you are also a VERY STRONG person to have survived. And now you are healing. A journey that can give you hope.
Thank you for sharing.
