And most good airlines will accommodate you. Request a "gluten free" meal. But have your own just in case.

I just flew two months ago with all sorts of food in my back pack. It went through the x-ray and they didnt say a word. They did, however, make me toss my hair gel. The crime: it was 4.5 ounces and the limit is 3 oz. Oh brother!!
The dont allow liquid. So you will have to "buy" water once on the other side of security. But this is no big deal.
I packed a huge bag of almonds, 3 apples and a sandwich. It all made it through just fine.

Bravo!! Here's wishing you a successful outcome and all of your fears were for naught.

And you say that you think you "might lose it" with them. This is the absolute worst thing that can happen in this situation. There is nothing more humiliating to someone than to be punished/yelled at/etc. by someone for something they knew nothing about. If you lose it with them, then you send a clear message to your boss and your colleagues. And t isnt a good one.
It isnt their fault and you are being completely unfair to them by not telling them. You are not giving them ANY credit as human beings. They should at least get the chance to do right by you. Some may prove to be jerks, but at least you will know where you stand with everyone and you can get on with your life.

It seems strange, but you actually react more violently when you clear your system of an irritant (i.e. gluten) when you get even small amounts of it. Symptoms are generally not as bad when you get a steady dose of it. It is weird, but true. Our bodies do unusual things.
At least you "know" when it happens and you can rest assured you will not "cheat".

I guess I have just gotten over my fears of "what will they think". Maybe Im just getting older. Maybe I have evolved. But I honestly do not give a rats behind what anyone thinks of me except me.
I take my own food. And they can deal. If they want an explanation, I will give it.
Jason....many communities offer classes on "assertiveness". They could be extremely helpful to you given your job and all of the rep meetings and eating out. People respect assertive people. People admire assertive people.
You are simply allowing yourself to feel bad about this all of the time. It really has NOTHING to do with them and EVERYTHING to do with you.
I am sure you were interviewed for this position. There must have been things about you that impressed your boss. He didnt ask you about your dietary habits on interview I presume. Your value to him is in your ability to produce in your given field.
He may not like that you have a disease, but he will respect your saying so. Trust me on this one. I have been a "boss" to many employees in the past. The way you are handling things looks bad. If I were your boss, I would be wondering about you.
You can clear the air here and give your boss nothing to worry about. And you may just find, you become one of his stars.

I was a sickly child and thin. But plumped up in HS. Had a lot of fatigue. But that went away over time. My trigger was the birth of my daughter 12 years ago. Never the same since. And it is exactly the reason I only have ONE child. I wanted two.

You could also test with HCL tablets. Take 1 with a protein meal and see if you feel better or no response at all. If you feel better, you can take them for while until your body readjusts. If you get no response, next meal take 2. You will know you have taken too much if your stomach burns a bit and you taste acid. Simply drink some baking soda (1 tsp) in warm water to make that go away.
This happened to me years ago and the HCL was a lifesaver. I had to take 3 with any protein meal. Over time I gradually reduced until I discontinued. No symptoms eating protein.
Do not take with carbohydrate only meals.

From what I have read in these groups, you are lucky they caught it at all.
The bad taste could be something unrelated to Celiac. You could have an overly acidic body. The way to remedy this is to eat lots off fresh fruits and veggies (mostly raw) and cut down on too many meats, coffee and definately sugars. You can also supplement with Ph drops in your water (which you need to drink lots of).

I used to have food aggression issues and got defensive when anyone else in the house ate my (our) food.
-Anna
This made me chuckle....."food aggression"....I think of dogs, but people have it to. I know I did for years!! Growing up with 4 siblings, 1 was an older brother and 1 a few years younger. They ate EVERYTHING in the house. You had to fight for yummies. I hid/hoarded food. When I got some money, I bought food!! Which I would then hide. I can still feel that sick feeling of horror the times I found my hiding wasnt good enough. My older brother eating a whole box of my Little Debbies.........
Then later, 2 boyfriends booted for eating my food. I remember waking up one morning to find a BF eating my cereal. I screamed at him, "What are you doing!!! That's my food!!" He was probably thankful to be rid of me.....LOL
And another who was "in between jobs" and started eating at my apartment regularly......about 2 weeks of that and I broke it off.
Yeah....Ive had some major food issues.
But I dont mind if my food gets eaten now. I eat so darn healthy that I am pleased when my DH or DD eat my food. I then know they got some nutrition in them. \
And NOW - I just eat when I have to eat. I have munched on almonds in church. Eating in the room waiting for the doctor. At dinner parties, I announce that I have to eat. If I never get invited back again, then they werent real friends anyway. And my friends have all accomodated me, eating when I want to eat.
Life's too short to be uncomfortable.

I am so happy for you Rachel.
We all have a story. I have no way of knowing what symptoms throughout my life were connected to what. Alcoholic father who committed suicide when I was 10. And a product of abuse (mental, physical and sexual), there is no question that trauma also played a roll in my life. But there were certainly other factors as well and I am betting gluten played a staring role.
I was a sick kid. Always with strep throat. Antibiotics where my normal after dinner mint. Prone to "stomach viruses". I was pale and skinny. But I plumped up in H.S. That is when the fatigue hit. I joke that I "slept" my way through high school. I slept as late as possible. Slept in class when I could. Slept at lunch hour. Slept in study hall. Napped when I got home. Woke up for dinner and a shower. Then back to bed. Weekends I slept till 1 or 2, then back to bed at 9. I remember when I was a Sophomore, my Mom saying I could stay up till 10:30 now. And my response was, "Why?"
Bulimic, weight gain, constant D, anxiety, depression, post-partum thyroiditis, vertigo, migraines, neuropathy..............
And here I am, not quite 2 months gluten-free. I can say the migraines are lessened considerably, the neuropathy is a wee bit better and I dont feel depressed. My most special doggie just died on Saturday (13 year old Great Dane) and even though I miss her and I cried a lot over the weekend, it didnt throw me in the "pit" like it normally would have.
Progress......
And I am anticipating so much more!!

Ive had this issue for years....long before gluten free. I have tried so many diets to find relief of symptoms over the years. Vegan, Vegetarian, Raw Foodist, eliminated this that and the other.
It is just my normal way to be. I always carry a snack with me everywhere I go. This is also a carry over from hypoglycemia (which I do not have anymore). I also take clean water with me. I have fears of having to drink nasty city water filled with chemicals and flouride (plus it tastes like crap).
But since it has become my natural state. I am not "stressed" over it anymore. I am just "always prepared". I shop at least 2 times a week because I eat a lot of fresh produce. I cook/bake everything I eat at home.
I consider my Great Grandma. She didnt just drive to the "Jiffy-mart" and pick up some ding dongs and a gallon of milk. No.....she actually milked the damn cow!! Baked the bread. Planted, tended, harvested and prepared the vegetables. I imagine she spent A LOT of her time thinking about food.
My Grandma and my Mom did some of this too. Gardens.....baking...canning...freezing. They had a little more leisure to think of other things. It has trickled down to where I have the luxury to "buy" my food. I dont have a garden or a cow. I just have to prepare it myself. All of the raw ingredients are 5 minutes away and a 1/2 hour shopping venture.
Ive got it easy compared to that!!
It is that we have become accustomed to "not having to think about food". But this isnt natural. All of our ancestors all the way back thought about food a whole heck of a lot. This is normal.
So my advice is to just accept yourself exactly as you are. Love yourself. You are uniquely you. It isnt strange. It is just you. A shift in mental attitude can do wonders.

My husband was totally smitten with me whilst dating. I had no doubt that if I had showed up at the restaurant with my own little cooler of food, that I would still be married to him. And he confirmed this.
-
Yes it can be. Your body's immune system may be able to keep it at bay sometimes, but then it comes back. You really need to get it checked ASAP!!! If it goes to the kidneys it can be quite serious.
I use a daily dose of D-Mannose and I NEVER get them anymore.

I wonder if they could break down the lactose in milk and then make it into a powder? I dont see why not.
I dont do dairy at all. So switch to almond meal would get my vote!!

Ahhhh...a marriage made in heaven. I do believe that couples that laugh together stay together. :0)

Great that you figured it out!!

That is good to know you had no problems. I will talk to my Dr. about it the next time I go.

Oh Im not afraid of a "poke". Im arms look like a drug addicts already. I worry about side effects:
What are the side effects?
The side effects of iron injections may
include:
l A metallic taste in the mouth
l Low blood pressure
l Fever and shivering
l Injection site reactions
l Feeling sick
Risks?
Iron injections can occasionally cause
you to have a drop in blood pressure
and rarely to have a serious allergic
reaction. We will monitor you carefully
and check your blood pressure before,
during and after your treatment.

I realize that you are afraid of telling your boss, because he may not want you working for him anymore. But you have to take that risk. Because risking your health, and as a result probably ending up with intestinal cancer, is NOT worth ANY job!
You are already thinking of quitting, so you have nothing to lose IMO.
When faced with a difficult situation, I always ask myself, what is the worst that can happen? Then I think of that. Then I ask myself, what is the best that could happen if I do it? I focus on "the best that can happen". I do not allow myself to dwell on the worst for one minute. And 99% of the time, things work out just fine. One way or the other, I make my life work out.

I just got some of the Carlson's lemon last week. Will start taking it tomorrow. I was using up what I had of other vitamin D.
The vit D I was using was working, I just wasnt taking enough. So Im upping it!
The Solgar was bringing my levels up too...from 11 to start to 22. Then I stopped taking it and it is down to 19. I should just take more of that as well. The Solgar says "wheat" free, but not specifically "gluten" free, so I need to call and check on that. Unless anyone else knows if it is gluten-free??????
O.K...injections scare more than the other stuff....LOL Ill try taking more Iron for awhile and then reevaluate. But thank you for sharing. I knew about the injections.....just call me chicken.

There is some evidence that certain nutritional deficiencies can lead to eating disorders as well. Research that and see what you find. Celiac often causes many deficiencies, so that could be your calling card.
I am a recovered bullimic. I have been binge free for about 15 years. I too often binged on high gluten foods...pizza...donuts....captain crunch.....cakes...cookies....yup...me too. I couldnt puke. nope. I then exercised like an animal to get rid of it and took laxatives. My tummy hurt the whole time though.

Welcome to my world of "bringing my own food". I have done it for so many years, that it is just second nature to me. It is then always safe for me to eat at events. I have put chicken breasts in a baggie in my purse. And even my own grain. I carry a big purse.
