Wow Mike. What a list. Thanks for posting. As Dilettentestef said "a positive list would be helpful though, hint, hint.
-
Thanks Susie, I'll try it. Do you use any of the flours that say you can use cup for cup?
It is so aggravating when it doesn't come out right. I used to be a pretty good baker, so I get frustrated.

I made a banana nut bread the other day. I converted a recipe I have that used wheat flour. I used a flour that says you can use cup for cup. Anyway, it looked beautiful when I took it out. Then a while later it collapsed and was really heavy. I like the recipe because it uses honey and molasses but the outcome not so good. Hubby still ate it. He said the taste was good but was kind of chewy. I thought it tasted good but couldn't get over the texture.
What went wrong?

I e-mailed about the Recue Cream and here is the response I received. I didn't know about the spray so thanks for posting.
Jenny,
All the Bach Flower Remedies are Gluten Free.
However, I do not know about the Rescue Cream and the Rescue Pastilles are Not gluten free.

Subject: Gluten Free Products
Is the Rescue Cream gluten free? Are any other products gluten free? Thanks.

I put the eggs in a saucepan. I set the temp on high and cook for 20 minutes from when I first turn the stove on. Then put the eggs in cold water. To peel, I tap the top and bottom of the egg. Put a paper towel on the counter and roll the egg. The shell comes right off.
I never knew there were so many different ways to boil and egg.

I think one of the hardest parts is going to the grocery store. I didn't know about the list that happygirl mentioned until I was into this diet for a couple of months. I still take the list from glutenfreeindy.com which lists the brands that do not hide gluten with me every time I go to the store. I also bought the book Living Gluten Free for Dummies.
I'm cooking more than before which is good because we do eat healthier. I still have not mastered the baking, darn it! Hopefully soon.
There is so much info on the forum. If you are unsure about certain foods, use the search feature here. Chances are good that someone has already asked about it. Also, I changed all my lotions, makeup and such.
Good luck and hang in there.
Oh yeah, Italian was my favorite food too. I use the Tinkyada pasta. It's really good and my hubby (non-celiac) likes it too. So, you can still have some Italian. I add some shrimp or chicken to the sauce for protein. So easy and really good.
There are tons of recipes on this forum.

What is the generic fiorinal you are taking??? I take Butalbital w/Caffeine and have not idea how to find out who the manufacturer is or if it contains gluten. I asked the pharmicist and they said it didn't but they really didn't know what gluten was so I dont think he even knew what he was talking about.
Each pharmacy may have a different policy, but Walgreens lists the name of the manufacturer on the prescription bottle. I didn't realize it was there until I started calling on my meds.

cruelshoes and cat3883, thanks for the replies. This does help. I was in a bit of shock when first dx'd. I thought she told me she would see me in a year unless I had problems. I thought that seemed a bit long.

The first book I bought was Living Gluten Free for Dummies. My hubby picked up a magazine already mentioned, Living Without. This magazine is great! I couldn't believe all the info in it.
-
You did the right thing. Good for you! So sorry about your mom. It looks like you are taking control and things can only get better. Hang in there and vent as often as you need to.
-
How often are we supposed to get re-tested? Can the family doctor do this or do I have to go back to the GI to do it? My GI didn't really say much when I was diagnosed.
Thanks.

Shay, does George's have a taste to it? Also, do you only drink this when you are having GI issues?

I mailed my in. Wow, so easy! I'm so ready for this to be over.

I've been gluten-free for about 6 months(hopefully). I never really thought about dental floss. What kind do you use? I couldn't find much info on it. Thanks.

Growing up we always had baked beans and potato salad. I just tried some risotto that was good. It's by Lundberg and it was the Parmesan flavor.
I love spiral ham. What brand are you cooking? Please post your pineapple stuffing!!

I know there was a thread on this, but I can't find it. Anyway, I have to get a crown on a tooth and asked the dentist for the products he would be using. Here they are:
Examix and Fuji Plus by GC America. 800/323-7063. Company verified by phone both are gluten-free.
TempBond by Kerr. Company verified by phone that all of their products are gluten-free.

Austin does have some good places and not just the chains. I was there in March and we ate at this great restaurant. I'll ask my niece what the name of it was. It may have been the Wild Wood Cafe. I'll see if she remembers and let you know.

Gaye of PA. Thanks for posting. This sounds great! I didn't know you could put frozen meat in the crockpot. I'm learning something everyday.
-
Don't know about Skyy, but Chopin Vodka is distilled from potatoes.
-
I buy the Hormel Natural at either Safeway (Tom Thumb in Dallas area or I believe Ralphs in Texas) or Fry's (Krogers in Texas). Hopefully they will have it as well and you can get it when you do your regular grocery shopping.
-
We use Applegate and Hormel Natural.

Mike, as nask mentioned there are a few different test strips. Which kind do you use? Actually, I think the test strips would be great to use. I wouldn't use it all the time. I think they would work well if say you ate five different foods one day, thinking each to be gluten-free. You get sick anyway and don't know which food made you sick. This test may be able to rule it out for you. I've been in that situation before. Instead of doing a challenge and risking being sick, I just won't eat the food again and still don't know what made me sick.

Last night I went out with some girlfriends to a pottery painting place. They let us bring wine so we have happy hour at the same time. One of the girls brought snacks. Every single thing she brought was gluten free except for Triscuits. I couldn't believe it. She brought turkey and cheese (prepackaged), gluten-free crackers from Trader Joe's, wine and gluten-free kettle popcorn. I felt so happy to have friends that put some thought into making the snacks something we could all eat.
I brought yogurt to eat as my backup. Anyway, I did not eat any of the foods she brought since one of the girls had already put her hands on everything (she doesn't know about cc) and I didn't go in to it. I did have some wine and ate my yogurt. Everything went great and I even took the unopened gluten-free Trader Joe's kettle corn home. When I got home I ate some popcorn.
Well, about 3:00 a.m. I woke up with "D". I'm not really sure what it feels like to be glutened. How do you know if it was gluten or just something that doesn't agree with you? I remember reading the wine thread and I even responded that I drink white wine OK, but thinking back, I'm not so sure. I had "D" about a month ago but didn't know if it was from wine, high altitude or the dinner I ate.

I agree that we are all responsible for what we eat. We absolutely still have to read labels. Just because Mike's negative list has fritos doesn't mean I'm going to eat them. You can't always tell just by reading the label. I believe Fritos has only 3 ingredients. If you dig deeper, Lays tells you that only the stax are made on dedicated lines, but you have to go to the website to get the info.
I think we are all different. For some people, they don't care if it's made on the same line as gluten foods. I try to stay away from foods made on the same lines as other gluten foods. I'm not as worried about it if it is made in the same facility. I am happy about the Driscoll's brand strawberries and will try them.
I am more interested in the positive list.
