  1. The only vitamins I can stomach are Gummi Vites, they are little gummy bears and don't have any viamin taste at all.  Other types sit in my stomach like a ton of bricks, these have been much better.

Can you tell me where you purchase them? I've never seen them. <_<

  2. Hi all,

I've been having somewhat foul, but mostly sweet smelling urine lately....but mostly in the a.m. I did a google search and found out that it is related (or could be) to diabetes. I have gastroparesis, and polycystic ovarian disease....both of which have been linked to diabetes. I have been told in the past that I probably don't have it...but the sweet smelling urine kinda has me worried. And I basically have been reduced to eatine meat, cheese, Medallion white corn chips, soy milk, and chocolate. That is ALL that is agreeing with my stupid stomach.

Do you think I ought to be seen for this? I don't know if the sweet smell has to be frequent to be a problem, or since it's only the first part of the day it's not really a problem. "Funny" that I'm usually sickest in the a.m. though......and ever since I got the gp and celiac, I guzzle water like crazy. Me thinks something's funky.....

    All opinions welcome. B)

  3. Hormel would be the easiest to find, but Wellshire farms makes great gluten-free hams.  They have a website and you can order directly from them.  Some stores, like Harry's and Wholefoods carry this brand as well.  Good luck.  Soup is so great for our lunches!

Cool!! Thanks you guys. I really appreciate it!! :D

  4. I got shingles for the first time.....RIGHT after I went gluten-free. Weird, huh? I went for months, thinking it was eczema, so I didn't go to the doc. Then, when I went in for a checkup, I told him about it. He kinda freaked, spent a whole lot of time examining it, and finally decided it was shingles (it looked pretty nasty - and it was on my forearm, below my wrist). He prescribed me Valtrex, and a cream (basically a topical Valtrex). I didn't apply it until months later, because I didn't think going to get the expensive meds outweighed haing the rash (but it did burn and itch and hurt like crazy!!!). I'm stubborn, what can I say! Anyway....then I had someone tell me that it can go to your brain, if you don't get it taken care of. She had a friend that actually died of herpes encephalitis (shingles on the brain, basically). SO....needless to say, I ran out and filled that prescription! <_< I never filled the oral, I just got the cream. And it worked like a CHARM!!! Great stuff. The bad news is that it cost me eighty bucks AFTER my insurance paid their part. And I have good insurance.

Anyway....the shingles are painful. Just get treated, and all will be well. I agree that you need to get it taken care of if it is indeed shingles.

  5. Has anyone ever tried to go on a diet only eating smooshy food....like jello, broth, real soft meat, eggs, etc...? If so, did it help you? I seem to have an awful time with anything that has any sort of texture. My supper tonight was pretty much broth from a roast I put in the crockpot. I think it had a lot of fat in it, which is why it probably sustained me. But it felt wonderful to not have to digest rough stuff. Any ideas for other soft foods? I can't do fruit and veggies, so those are out.

    TIA,

  6. Hi all,

I'm experimenting with split pea soup (sounds yucky, but it might provide some nutrition). So, I need some ham to put in it. Does anyone know of a gluten-free brand?

The recipe says that I can either put ham chunks in it, or a ham bone in it. Is it safe to just request a ham bone from the grocery store butcher? I'm confused.

    TIA!

  7. Hmmm....I've tried liquid, but not the children's. I can have sucrose. So maybe I'll give them a try. I had actually thought about that earlier today.....

I've not tried Carnation Instant Breakfasts, but I've tried Ensure. That stuff is like poison to me....yuck, yuck, yuck. I get so sick with it. I think maybe it's all the stuff they add in there....chemicals and such. I'll look at the Carnation ingredients and see what it says.

I like Lay's stacks too. They don't agree with me....but I can eat just a few at a time. :P

Oh, and I will ask for the blood screen.

    Thanks so much!!!

  8. Hey,

That post about being proud of your hubby...well...I've got a hubby story too.

We were at Wendy's a couple weeks ago, and I ordered a single with cheese, onion, and tomato ONLY, no BUN! My husband is quite a bit taller than I am (6'2" - and I'm 5'2"). Anyway....he saw over the cashier, and was watching them make my "sandwich". The girl making it just made a regular sandwich, then took the bun off when she realized that I didn't want one (she didn't speak English). So....hubby ran over there and corrected them, told them that I can't even have a CRUMB, and asked them to do it over. HA! Boy was I thankful!!! I am so sensitive, I know I would have been sick for three days. So yeah.....I've got a very supportive, cool hubby too!!! He feels really sorry for me, which is nice of him. But I tell him it's better to just not make a big deal about it and treat me as though I'm normal. :D

    Thanks for letting me share.

  9. Hey all,

I know this is kind of a weird question, but here goes:

Is there a way to get supplement in your system without taking them orally? I am unable to tolerate any and every supplement I've ever tried. And I KNOW my diet is not adequate. So......would it have to be via an i.v.? Feeding tube inserted into small intestine?? Any other ideas that I'm not seeing?

I have also wondered if I should have a blood screen done to see where my nutrition levels are. Anybody ever do that?

    Thanks in advance,

    ~Brenda

  10. Stephanie,

I've actually tried the SCD. The reason it didn't work, is that I am unable to get enough carbs from it. So my energy level went down to ZIP!!! I mean, I was unable to do ANYTHING. It was incredible. They rely on honey and fruit sugars for carbs, both of which make me sicker than a dog.

As for coffee....I haven't really tried it. Before celiac disease and gastroparesis, I couldn't drink it, because it makes my heart flutter - yes, even the decaf (I've had open heart surgery and have a pacemaker also). So I guess I haven't even figured on trying that. But....I haven't really tried it since the heart surgery.....so maybe I'll give it a try (a very diluted try!).

To answer your question, yes, I can't have the fiber because it's too hard to digest. My stomach just can't handle it. :(

    tarnalberry,

Well...I could start jogging for five minutes a day and work up from there maybe. Worth a try, eh?

    nogluten,

Coca cola won't do it. Doesn't even phase me in that way. :( Thanks for the suggestion anyway!! As for dried apricots, I doubt that would work. I haven't been able to eat any dried fruit, so I'm not sure they would be any different. And any laxative that I've tried works well enough, but I'm deathly ill afterwards. I even run a fever. I mentioned trying the castor oil pack the other night, and I've been sick with a fever since. Weird......I still don't know why that is!!

Thanks everybody. I really do appreciate the time you spend in replying. And again, if there's any more ideas....I'd love to hear them!! :D Like coffee....hadn't thought of that. :o

    ~Brenda

    P.S. Cute picture, Stephanie.

  11. Wow. Thanks for all the replies...but....can't do any of them. I've tried senna before and thought I was gonna die (won't go into detail). :) Can't do salad, grapes, raisins, aloe....I tell ya'....I've tried everything. :( This has been going on for three years. No joke. I had a short period of time where I was actually going too much...but that has ended, and now I'm back to this clogged mess. I do exercise some, but my energy and time levels are limited. I usually walk every day, probably a quarter to half of a mile, depending on how energetic I am. Plus, I do lots of housework.

Sorry for the rant. But thanks for the concern. I crave all those good for you foods something terrible. I'm sure the fact that I eat meat and cheese all the time doesn't help. But it's all that agrees with my stomach. I homeschool three kids, so I don't feel like I can "afford" to be down for a day.

Ok, done with my pity party. :D Thanks again. Keep the ideas coming if you have them!

    ~Brenda

  12. Hey all,

I'm sure you've all experienced a "NoGo" week, meaning never having a bowel movement. In fact, it's actually been more like two weeks. But here's the trick. I can't have fiber, no fiber supplements, no magnesium supplements, and no vitamin C. All of the above cause major problems with my gastroparesis (paralyzed stomach). Oh, and I can't do prune juice....or any juice for the matter. Nothing acidic at all. So....my question is.....is there anything out there that I'm missing that would cause me to actually go to the bathroom??? I even tried a castor oil pack last night, and it just made me sick all today. So i'm about ready to give up!!

Please help if you have ANY ideas. I'm up for anything at this point. :(

    ~Brenda

  13. debmidge,

I went undiagnosed for about 12 years. Seems like the longer you go being sick, the worse off you are with trying to heal.

I do the EXACT same thing with my green beans. I can only have the french style, and I hide it in tuna and cheese. If I just eat a big helping of green beans, I'm sick. I have no idea why hiding them makes them more tolerable. Weird.

I had planned on buttering, salting, and peppering the baby food veggies. I don't care really what it tastes like....I just want to get something good down me. And I'm so plugged up that I'm ready to explode. :( And it's been that way for three years. It's really sick. I feel so gross all the time. But I can't get anything past my stomach that will help with that problem. So.....I sit and wait.....hoping for at least one trip a week to the toilet. Sorry...I know that's graphic.

Thanks for the reply. I'm off to try some baby food (yum, yum) as soon as the next pay period comes. :P

Tell your hubby he's not alone, and I'm sorry he's having a rough time.

    ~Brenda

  14. Yeah, I could see how that would be accurate. I emailed Gerber, and they said that they do not remove the fiber from their baby food. So....I probably won't be trying that. Oh well...it was a good try, anyway. :(

    Thanks for the reply.

    ~Brenda

  15. Sorry for the reply to my own post, but I'd really like to know if baby food has fiber in it. So...if anyone has any idea, please reply. I guess I don't understand how they would actually remove the fiber....but then....that's just me.

    ~Brenda

  16. Uhmmm, are you telling me that baby food veggies don't have fiber??? I purposely haven't purchased any, because I didn't figure it was any different than just using a blender! I don't care what it tastes like....if it's good for me, I'll try it. I've got to get some good-for-me food down. I've been gluten-free a little over a year, and still cannot eat veggies. So yeah, if they're really fiber free, then I'll try them. Any suggestions on which brands?? Just Gerber?

Thanks for the response. I'm all excited now....maybe I can have baby food!!! LOL

    ~Brenda

  17. Hey all,

Not sure if I posted this in the right area or not, but here goes.......

I am unable to eat anything with fiber in it. The only veggies i can eat are french style green beans, avocado, and tomato. But only in TINY amounts. If I were to eat a spoonful of beans, I'd be SO sick.

So....I was just wondering if any other celiacs have this problem. I also have gastroparesis, so I'm just trying to figure out what is causing the problem. I've not heard any other celiacs complain of this.....but I'm just making sure.

    Thanks for any input.

    ~Brenda
