About Me

I was diagnosed with celiac disease in October 2008 after almost 2 1/2 years of fatigue, anemia , iron deficiency and heartburn. I had a positive IgA tTG and biopsy.

I have two sons. My youngest went gluten free 11/19/10 after a positive tTG and no EGD/biopsy. My oldest son has had repeated negative blood work and negative scope/biopsy in Aug. 2011. He is currently undergoing a gluten free trial.

I enjoy time with my family and anything to do with the outdoors. I also like gardening, canning, cooking and baking.

  1. Made chicken parmesan, side salad and steamed asparagus.
  2. My youngest son and I don't eat Kind bars because of the cc from gluten free oats. My oldest son is fine with them.
  3. It might be a good idea to ask for the full celiac panel to be redone. So many people do not get the whole thing done. These tests include: total IgA, IgA/IgG tTG, IgA EMA, IgG/IgA DGP. Also when you have your scope you need to make sure the endoscopist takes a minimum of 8-10 samples from the small bowel alone(in different spots). They will biopsy the...
  4. Not before diagnosis. But a year later I developed it. Long story short I discovered I was reacting to gluten free oat cross contamination in gluten free products. I went on prescription creon and ate very clean and in three months time it cleared up. If I get CC's from gluten now or oat CC then it comes back. I just had my gallbladder removed on...
  5. I was reading up on a condition that a patient of mine tonight had and I thought it might be worth mentioning. antipospholipid antibody syndrome From what I read it is autoimmune and can be found with other autoimmune conditions/diseases and can cause blood clots. Here are a few links if you google it you can find a whole lot more on the subject...
  6. Hi, I hope all is well. Do you know of any support groups in the Johnson City area? Or any people that get together to share recipes and experiences? Thank you

  7. Heya,

I was reading in a recent post that you react to gluten-free oat contamination, yes? Would you have any suggestions for brands to avoid or brands that have been safe for you? Trying to find some for my daughter. :-)

  8. My 10.5 year old had been complaining he can't fall asleep for the past few nights and that he is tired after school. He is currently doing a trial of gluten free and has been completely gluten free since Monday. Not sure if it is related or not...hmm
  9. Even with the gluten free contrast diarrhea can be a side effect but there is also a chance what you got wasn't gluten free also. Stay well hydrated. It is not abnormal to have whiteish stools as you pass it. If your symptoms don't ease up after several days you can always consult your doctor.
  10. I don't know if this is an OCD tendency but my 6 year old was abnormally focused on his shoes. He didn't like the color, they were too tight/loose, he didn't like the velcro/shoe strings. etc. He would throw outright temper tantrums every day when it was time to put shoes on. The only ones he wanted to wear was flip flops so I threw them away last year...
  11. Just got the official dx of this today. I have suspected it for a few years. Now the doc had me do some other tests for other autoimmune problems. This makes autoimmune disorder #3. Man I must have been at the end of the line when it came to genes!
  12. I was 35 when I was diagnosed.
  13. Just thought I would post some updated information on the CT barium. I inquired with this company because I am having a scan tomorrow and this is the brand we have in our department.
  14. For me it doesn't matter what kind of soda I drink diet or regular they all will bother me. I don't tolerate the carbonation very well. I do splurge though and drink a sprite every now and then.
