  1. Crying, anxiety: I can so relate! My husband says he can tell if I've been glutened almost immediately afterwards. For lack of a better term, I turn into a COMPLETE witch. Oh, how I love my husband for having put up with me. For a couple of years (or more) before I was diagnosed, I was extremely difficult to live with-- not impossible, but (at...
  2. For me, within 15-20 minutes. BAM! There is no doubt I'm having a reaction. Big D. If I'm lucky, I catch it before I have to go home and change clothes. I'll get delayed reactions, but I'm learning that, for me, it may be from another food that I may be sensitive to, such as egg yolk or soy.
  3. "Next time I have a colonoscopy I'll just have a crouton instead of laxative" -- lauging so hard here I can hardly stand it! Great line! And yes, that crouton would indeed work wonders. Thank you for the smile.
  4. The University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center will have its annual free blood screening & Ask the Experts Panel on Saturday, October 9, 2010, 8:30 AM to Noon.
  5. (Lee Bernstein) has started a blog: knittingisglutenfree.com

  6. Alpha ENF sounds very interesting - thank you! I'm trying to find the ingredient list on the site and haven't found it yet. If you have a link to the ingredients, would you kindly post it?
  7. Has anyone here tried Garden of Life Raw Protein? It is labeled gluten-free, soy-free. It doesn't appear to be certified, but I'm wondering if it might be an option. Ingredients: amaranth sprout, organic quinoa sprout, organic millet sprout, organic buckwheat sprout, organic garbanzo bean sprout, organic kidney bean sprout, organic lentil sprout...
  8. It's been hard for me -- I recently threw away TONS of "gluten-free" protein powder because it gave me a horrible reaction. However, I am wondering if it was the whey, too. So I'm also wondering if a rice protein powder might be better -- perhaps best to stay away from soy, whey. Not sure about hemp; I don't know much about it. Anyone? With any processed...
  9. Just wondering if anyone else has a favorite protein powder that is certified gluten-free.
  10. Right now, I am extremely sensitive to refined "gluten-free" foods. I stay away from most of them, but occasionally, I give in. I find I do best with GIG certified gluten-free foods. For those who are are hyper-sensitive (or for those who are not hyper-sensitive but fear that cc may be an issue with healing), visit the Gluten-Intolerance Group (GIG)...
  11. Here is a concern I have: Some with Celiac are not very symptomatic -- some who have tested positive have no symptoms at all. So, is it possible that they can eat foods that are produced on shared lines and never feel it, yet they are being glutened to the point where it might cause damage? I am one of the "lucky" ones. I am non-Celiac gluten...
  12. Some actually carry the McCormick label, at least at the COSTCO by me. Do you know if the Kirkland brand is also made by McCormick? That would be wonderful!
  13. Minced onion and garlic powder: I wasn't able to get an answer on anything in the spice section. I've purchased minced onion from other sources and have had reactions, even though the packaging didn't list any allergy warnings. I've been sticking to McCormack for both, just to be on the safe side. How I hope labeling laws continue to get more informative...
  14. When I spoke with our local COSTCO, they explained that it is impossible to have a list since manufacturers and ingredients change so frequently. That makes sense to me. I was particularly interested to see if the Kirkland brand of spices is gluten free, but they were unable to help me, alas. However, there are a number of products in the store that...
  15. I love Redken products and recently called the company for information. They were able to tell me that All- Soft Shampoo has gluten but the conditional does not. I asked about All Soft Velvet Whip -- they weren't sure but said they'd check and get back to me. It took over a week, but they eventually called and said it is gluten free. They also told me...
  16. That's awesome! Thank you! How much color do they give? Are they like a lightly colored chapstick, or do they give more color than that?
  17. Does anyone know if there are any gluten-free lipsticks available at local drugstores, discount stores, or easily available at many health food stores? Thank you so much!
  18. Thank you for the info about the vanilla in the shakers!
  19. VERY confused here. What if you drink it black? From what I've learned, Starbuck's black coffee is gluten-free. Any thoughts?
  20. I was morbidly obese for many years. As a child, I remember thinking, "Why can other kids eat a sandwiche, chips, milk for lunch . . . maybe even a Twinkie . . . and not gain weight?" It never made sense to me. AND, I was as active as them, but I was always the nerd-fat-little-girl, even though I ran and played with the best of 'em. The only time...
