  1. I would recommend it! I have been 3 times since I have been gluten free, it just feels so good to know that each meal we eat is not an issue ( - and there are of course, many, many great things to do at Disney World!).

Also, I did have the brownies, they were very yummy! I regret that I didn't try the gluten free rice krispy treat. I saw them at the Pop Century food court on my first day and I thought I would pick one up later in the trip, but I never found one again :( .ONe great thing that we did was have the "kitchen sink" at Beaches and Cream (at the Boardwalk). It was this massive ice cream sundae, served in a sink. It had tons of great toppings, tons of ice cream, a can of whipped cream, and the chef put all of the gluten items in it on the side for the non-celiacs! It was wonderful!!

  2. Boma was are most favorite place too... TJ is wonderful... I would go back just to be able to eat there. Our dessert was a zebra dome , & a kahula ( Idon't think I spelled that liquor correctly) choc. cake!!!!He also made us a beautiful platter of real food, so much four of us could not eat it all... People at other tables were asking how we got this mile high platter of food... TJ told them if was a special diet & a guy at the other table said well I want that too.... There were alot of gawkers eyeing up our gluten-free food.

glad you had a gret time & food. The dining plan is the way to go. We used up the lunch & snacks coupons before we left by buying brownies (gluten-free) & turkey legs. They feed us for weeks after as we couldn't eat lunch & supper because we were so full...

We are going back in February and Boma is our first stop! People also came to our table and asked us how we got all of this food that was not on the buffet! It was so amazing! Disney really knows how to make you feel like royalty!

  3. We just got back from Disney World too, it was amazing. I stayed at Pop Century for part of our trip and the food was great. My daughter and I had gluten-free waffles, pizza, pasta, macaroni and cheese there, we were offered plenty of options there but that is what we decided on. We stayed for 8 days on the Disney Dining Plan and had amazing meals at all of the Disney owned restaurants. I do have to admit that BOMA was our favorite. The chef (Chef TJ!!) mad me the most amazing vegetarian meal, and an amazing desert (for me and my daughter) that was about a food high, it had gluten-free cheesecake, gluten-free brownies, fried bananas, strawberries and lost of chocolate sauce. It was incredible!!!!!!!! We also had great meals at the Hollywood and Vine, the Turf Club, Whispering Canyon and the Crystal Palace. I am a vegetarian which normally makes it difficult to eat out, but, not at Disney. The counter services were also great, overall, it was awesome!

  4. Thanks for the info on Berry Good Treats. We are headed to OC when school gets out and will definitely make the ride up to Bethany to give it a try!

Is it the type of place you could have a meal or mostly just an ice cream shop?

It is mainly an ice cream shop. They have ice cream, cones, hot dogs, and buns that are gluten free. They have other dessert kinds of food that are not gluten free. They were very nice people and had many ideas on great places to go out and eat in the area. I know that Steakhouse 26 on Rte 26 in Bethany is extemely gluten-free friendly (owned by celiacs), and I heard that Bethany Beach Blues in Bethany is celiac friendly.

    Have a great trip!

  5. Blizzard Beach is celiac friendly. I think I had gluten free pizza there last August. Call the Disney Dining number and they will put you in touch with someone who can send or email you a list of gluten free counter service options for all of the parks, even the water parks. They encouraged me to call a food service manager a day or two ahead just to make sure they would have exactly what I wanted. I am a vegetarian so it is a little bit more difficult to eat gluten-free counter service meals at the parks, but I have never had a problem. Enjoy!

  6. Christy,

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!!! I am so greatful for your help. It takes off a lot of stress fir going out to eat and enjoying myself.

I just came back from the Bethany Beach (very close to Ocean City). There is an ice cream shop in Bethany called Berry Good Treats (right near the boardwalk on Garfield Parkway). They have gluten free Edy's ice cream, gluten free ice cream cones, gluten-free hot dogs and gluten-free buns are coming soon. They are celiacs and do not cross contaminate. They just opened up their shop and they were so very nice! It was so awesome to get an ice cream cone! You should check it out when you are in the area!

  7. I will update when we get back. I'm a little nervous about it because one of my daughters is also soy-free and a vegetarian (and gluten-free/CF). I will be really impressed if they can feed her. They assure me that they can, but I won't really believe it until I see it.

I am a vegetarian celiac and Disney World has always been amazing with the food - plenty of pasta, pizza, rice, tofu (I know that kids don't usually like tofu) and just about anything vegetarian that I cook at home is available there. I think your daughter will be well fed!

  8. It HAS been confirmed by dietary challenge. As stated and it can not be stated enough the 'Gold Standard' is the old standard, it is not valid unless it is clearly positive. In addition you may even hear that there are minimal changes but she doesn't have celiac. Have her go back and gluten and come see me again if she gets sicker. She has been sick for a week from a few crackers, how much more 'proof' is really needed? You may want to look for a more savvy doctor.

Just to clarify - she was sick due to a virus - but I was not going to give her gluten while she was sick.

I do believe that the doctor wants to do the biopsy because that is what he does. I don't think she really needs it...but I like to hear opinions from other people in my situation. Thanks for all of the input.

  9. When my child initially found out about her positive test, she would not eat gluten at all. Her Gastroenterologist appt. was three weeks later. He said put her on two crackers per day of gluten, that will be enough for the biopsy. Well, we did that for a week, she was sick for a week - so I could not make her eat gluten, and now the biopsy is in a few days. I am quite concerned that if I do the biopsy it will not show damage anyway - because she has not been eating much if any gluten at all for the past 5 or 6 weeks. So, while I am convinced that she has celiac and I would like it to be confirmed, but I'm not sure it needs to be. Any thoughts?

  10. I haven't been on a Disney Cruise but I have been to WDW a few times while gluten free. There is so much food to choose from ! They have everything from gluten-free rolls, cakes, brownies, pancakes, waffles, pastas, rice dishes, quinoa dishes, salads, meats - - - truly wonderful! When you want to have a table service meal, make a reservation and have it noted on the reservation. You can call about a week in advance and talk to the dietary specialist for each restaurant and they will go over what they can do for you. The chef will come out and talk to you before your meal. Even the disney resorts will accomodate your needs. For counter service meals there is a list available from Disney that lists all of your best bets for a quick bite. From what I understand the Cruise would also be able to accomodate you. I think that you just need to note on your reservation and you should be all set. Have a great time and don't worry!

  11. My 10 yr old DS had the biopsy/endoscopy under general anesthesia last July. He did fine. However, we have been testing my 4 yr old DD and I don't know that I would repeat that unless they were looking for other issues. The main reason I went ahead with it for DS is that I am not biopsy confirmed (went gluten-free after bloodwork before I knew better) but do have a very positive dietary response, and if he was going to have to commit to this for life (and to get DH to go along) we needed the confirmation.

Would you have had your DS biopsied if you were a biopsy confirmed celiac ?(as I am one, so are other family members of mine). I believe that with our family history and a tTG of 26 she is positively a celiac. Would you agree?

  12. The doctor said that the only way to get a confirmed diagnosis is with a biopsy. I believe my child does have celiac because of strong family history. The doctor said that if a prescription should become available insurance would not cover it unless my child was confirmed by biopsy.

I am concerned that a biopsy may not be necessary, it is a difficult decision to make - - any input will definitely be helpful.

  13. My ten year old is scheduled for biopsy this week...because of a positive EMA and TTG. The doctor gave me a choice - outpatient biopsy in the endoscopy unit, or in the surgery unit with general anastetic (spelling?). I chose outpatient.

Did I make the safest choice for my child? Any input or experience with the procedure on a child would be helpful. Thanks.

  14. Disney has always been excellent for me. At Epcot, Gluten free pizza is available at the counter service restaurant in USA (Amy's). The counter service place in France has an excellent cheese and fruit platter. Akershus and Garden Grill were great for table service. The rissotto at Garden Grill is out of this world. At Animal Kingdom, the breakfast buffet at Restaurantasaurus was amazing. The chef makes awesome gluten free pancakes and homefries....YUM. Liberty Tree Tavern,Tony's Town Square and the Plaza Diner are great at the Magic Kingdom...the chefs come and talk to you and they are very accomodating with dinners, rolls and desserts. My favorite place to eat it probably the Sci Fi Dine In at MGM...great gluten-free pasta dish, appetizers and hot fudge sundaes. If you call Disney Dining Reservations, they will give you a number for somebody to talk to at each park. That person can send you information on allergy free dining, plus, they will send you a list of counter service availability of gluten free options. Advanced reservations will get you the best meals!

Can you tell that I love Disney World?

    Enjoy your trip!
