  1. Does anyone know of a good grocery store or health food store in Orlando, convenient to Walt Disney World or Universal Studios? I will be wanting to pick up some Amy's frozen entree's and yogurt while I am vacationing in the area. The last time I did this I tried to wing it and I didn't have much luck! Any help will be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

  2. Hi Kim...I am a member of the St. Peter's Support Group. I unfortunately do not go to meetings very often. Everyone is really great there. They have a lot of information about every aspect of Celiac Disease. They always have yummy foods to try and lots of samples. It's definitely worth the trip! use Doctor Samuels in Albany as my GI and Vanessa Denning at Albany Clinical Nutrition is my nutritionist. I must say that Dr. Denning is totally awesome and I HIGHLY recommend her. She monitors all of my nutrition issues and bone density issues. No other doctor has had the understanding of the broad range of issues associated with celiac disease as she has. Good luck with everything! Let me know if you find any gluten free dining hot spots in the area, so far I haven't had much luck.

  3. If we can get back to the discussion on Chipotle....I have never eaten there but I will be in New York City near Chipotle soon. Do any of you guys know if they have any child friendly food available...How is the atmosphere for kids...I really have no idea what this place is like but it sounds yummy. Thanks for any information!!

  4. I want to have my children genetically tested for celiac disease. I don't really know the first thing about it and I would appreciate any information anybody has to offer me...Is this done in a doctor's office, a laboratory or with a home kit? How do I go about finding out of my insurance company will pay for it? Has anybody else had their insurance company cover the costs?

  5. I see that you are in NYC Mookie. Just north of Poughkeepsie in Tivoli there is an absolutely fabulous mexican restaurant, Santa Fe, that is part of the gluten free awareness program. It is a four star restaurant and almost their entire menu is gluten free. So, if you feel like taking a short drive upstate there is yummy mexican available.

  6. Disney World is the best place to go on vacation!!! Even the value resorts are completely stocked with gluten free foods (pizza, pancakes, macaroni and cheese). There is gluten free food available at all table service restaurants and even the counter service restaurants have gluten-free pizza and information on all allergens. Most sit down restaurants had bread and dessert avaiable. I contacted every restaurant before hand and spoke with every chef. They asked what kind of food I liked and made sure to have everything I wanted available. I am planning my next trip and I absolutely cannot wait. At disney I never felt like a weirdo discussing my dietary needs. Enjoy your vacation!

  7. Our family is planning a trip to Orlando. We are spening most of our time at Disney World, where the gluten free options are amazing. We will be spending a few days at Universal Studios. Has anyone had any gluten free dining experiences at any of the Universal Studios Restaurants? I would really appreciate any tips!

  8. I have been on the gluten-free diet for celiac disease for over a year. My kids tested negative twice. They do not eat a lot of gluten foods, mostly in their lunchboxes at school and at friends and relatives homes. I do not know much about genetic testing...do insurance companies cover the cost? I went undiagnosed for 30 years and I would never want my kids to get this if I could possibly prevent it.

  9. I want to start baking gluten free breads at home. I have a terrific oven. I am wondering if I should get a breadmaker and or a kitchen aid stand mixer. Is it better to bake the bread in a breadmaker or in a convection oven? Do I need the kitchen aid mixer anyway to make the dough? From what I heard I need to do some heavy duty mixing for the gluten-free dough. Thanks for any input!! Also, any ideas on good bread mixes or recipes?

  10. Does anyone have suggestions on dairy free products that are gluten free? I would like to eliminate dairy from my diet and I want to know of any dairy free yogurts, substitute cheeses and other dairy free proteins that are available. I am a vegetarian and I know this will be hard so I need all the help I can get!!
