Grain free for my dog (and for my old kitty who is now gone......). I get mine at Costco. It is just easier on us and she is thriving!
Do you remember how much your kitty's food was at Costco?

Just out of curiousity as to how many celiacs feed their pets gluten free....not to debate whether your pets should or not. LOL! Also curious to know what kinds of gluten free pet food that people have tried and liked.
We're a 50/50 split here....my kitty cat eats grain free food, but my goldfish eat regular fish food. My cat eats the Natural Balance green pea and salmon formula and he gobbles it down like it's the best thing ever! I subscribe to it on Amazon, so a new bag shows up every month.
I would feed my goldfish gluten free fish food if there were one available in flake form.

Happily, Daiya pizzas are now available at my health food store.
Most of the pizza places are pretty iffy. There is a place here in Michigan, though, Guido's that offers truly gluten free pizza. They have a gluten free bakery right next door to them and the pizza is baked in the bakery's oven. The other pizza place that I feel comfortable with is California Pizza Kitchen.

Yep, yep, yep!
The craze of going gluten free without testing really bothers me. I would've never done it, if I'd known what I know now. And because my reactions to gluten are so severe now, a gluten challenge is out of the question.
What really drives me crazy is those who go just "sort of" gluten free, because they think for sure that they couldn't have celiac disease. That is going to harm them in the long run, if they actually do.
I think that the ultimate way to solve the problem will be to develop testing that doesn't require exposure to gluten. I hope for the day when the in vitro gliadin challenge becomes mainstream or they come up with some other way to diagnose, without putting people into complete relapse.

I needed to find a safe alternative to trade my kids for the regular playdough that they got for Christmas, so I bought this for them. As it turns out, this is better than playdough! The texture is fun and it's not messy either. And the $10 kit comes with all the utensils to play with it. My kids love it!

There isn't one in my area, but I have eaten there while traveling.
-
No...I'm really scared to be honest. The only place I've eaten out is the gluten free restaurant. I know that other people do it, but I'm so scared of being glutened because I get so sick.
CPK is GIG trained as well. It's quite safe for celiacs if you stick to ordering one of the certified pizzas.
-
Wow! Wow! I would love to have pizza from a restaurant!
Have you tried California Pizza Kitchen?
-
Wow, wonders never cease!
It still wouldn't be any help to my diet, (I don't eat cheese or pepperoni and wouldn't want to pay $10 for just sauce on crust) but that would be great for lots of celiacs!
-
If you have unexplained anemia, it is a good idea to get checked for celiac. There are a lot of celiacs with no GI symptoms.
-
You can do it! Good job!
-
I think that kids definitely do need a diagnosis. I would make sure that you get them tested even if you have to order the tests yourself and self-pay. It's that important.

It does sound like gluten challenging could be a problem for you.
My symptoms are partially neurological, so I have no choice but to remain gluten free because eating gluten for 3 months would most likely kill me. When I attempted to gluten challenge the first time, 10 days of it landed me in the ER.
I should've gotten tested before removing gluten, but between non-classical symptoms, doctor ignorance, and lack of knowledge it didn't happen.
That ship has sailed though and I'm thankful for the symptom resolution and good health I do have. You do not, after all, need a doctor's permission to stay gluten free. I've been gluten free for almost 5 years....

I think that the no egg part would be hard! I'll bet that you use lots of products marketed to vegans. Do you guys use
Vegenaise?
I hope that your kid gets almonds and milk back, that would open up so many possibilities.

Oh yes, tree nut allergies. It must be challenging to have so many allergies to work around, but it sounds like you're doing a great job.

I make a homemade mix with sorghum flour, almond flour, potato starch, and xanthan gum.

I'm trying to negotiate with my husband and kids over acceptable alternatives. I'm already on Amazon, ordering some gluten free play dough type stuff to replace some playdough that got given to the kids as a Christmas gift.
Anyway, my hubby and kids really like pizza and I'm trying to negotiate with them to find an acceptable alternative that doesn't put my health at risk. I'm gluten-free/DF, but they can all have dairy. I was thinking that maybe a chebe crust pizza made with regular cheese would help satisfy their pizza cravings. I'm not concerned with dairy cross contamination, as I don't have an actual allergy to it, it just tends to exacerbate my sinus problems, so I avoid it.
Anybody have a pizza recommendation that will satisfy gluten eaters?
-
Looks like I must have just gotten lucky. LOL! I stopped at the Whole Foods in Ann Arbor and they are $10 each there.
Stephanie can you share your recipe for gluten-free/DF pizza?

Do you parents realize the severe issues that can happen as a result of untreated celiac? Did the doctor go over that with them when you were diagnosed?
As a minor child, it is their responsibility to take care of you and provide you with safe food that won't damage your health.
-
That is awesome! Great job!

I've often had trouble wanting to go to sleep at the correct time. I have noticed though lately that I'm consistently feeling tired at the appropriate time and am having a much easier time going to bed--I don't have to force myself so much to get to bed.
It makes me wonder if this is symptom resolution or if it's just a side effect of me getting older and more tired. LOL! At any rate, I'm sleeping better and also have an easier time being up and alert at the appropriate time.
Can gluten issues cause problems with sleep and circadian rhythm?
-
I know that there's quite a few of us here.
-
My symptoms were definitely worse during my challenge than they were before. They were also different--that was the first time that I got headaches associated with gluten. Good luck to you and I hope you find answers.

Looks like according to your test results that tTg testing is over 99% specific to celiac.

So he still thinks that the celiac DX is correct?
