Everyone got sick but me. My husband got sick and threw up all X-mas night. I was afraid it was something I cooked, but that couldn't have been it because no other family member or guest got sick. I had a little of everything and I didn't get sick. So then I was really worried that it was a virus and that I was going to get it. I hate throwing up worse than anything. I end up sleeping on the bathroom floor. There is something familiar and comforting about laying on a... -
...for parties, that is.
We went to a party with our fellow church members last night. It's always a pot luck and usually not a whole lot of gluten-free foods to choose from. Most of them know about my celiac problem and some of them actually make an effort to bring gluten-free foods, which is very nice of them. One lovely lady made a point of telling me that the dessert she brought was gluten-free - candy balls. It just so happens that another friend had told ...- Read Full Article...

I contacted Kimball Labs to find out how much their Celiac DNA tests are. They responded back:
Thank you for your inquiry. The list price for the Celiac Disease DNA Test
is $395. Patients who enclose payment with their sample receive a 10%
discount (check or credit card) bringing the price to $355.50. In addition,
we offer a family discount. After the first family member is tested at the
$355.50 rate, each additional family member (immediate ...- Read Full Article...

Even though I already know my children and I have celiac disease, I'm thinking about having a DNA test done on all of us. I think it will be helpful for my children to know where they and their future offspring stand with this disease and the possibilities of future generations inheriting it.
Here's the website for the lab I'm considering:

My mom, who has celiac disease (and passed it on to her children) just found out today that she has Dupuytren's Contraction (dew-pwee-TRAWNS). Of course, I'm wondering if there is some connection between the two. I've been searching the net and found one other celiac site in which two people with celiac disease also have Dupuytren's. Otherwise, I haven't found any other information linking them.
I'd be glad to hear from anyone who has any info about that.

We went to an out of town wedding this weekend. I was looking forward to some really good food, but was sadly disappointed. The first night we went out with a group of my husband's family to a supposedly very good restaurant - spent $80.00 on just my husband and myself. I had a salad with raspberry vinagrette, I could barely taste the dressing. Then a slab of walnut crusted salmon with a raspberry sauce. It was too much and pretty bland, so I didn't finish it. Then I... - Read Full Article...

I was so excited to discover that our local Thai restaurant, Samui Thai, is almost completely gluten-free. It's my new favorite place

We went there on Mother's Day and took my parents. There were six of us and four of us have celiac disease. Everything breaded was gluten-free, even the fried calamari! YUM! As far as I could tell, only things with soy sauce in them had gluten and they offered to make anything we wanted w...- Read Full Article...

Whew! I got here just in time to save my blog from dropping to the second page.
So...I've been telling my mom, who has had all kinds of intestinal problems and other celiac symptoms for years, that I think she has celiac disease. It stands to reason, does it not, that she would have it since two of her four children are confirmed CDers and one other has loads of symptoms, but hasn't been diagnosed?
She got tested last year with a blood test and her d...- Read Full Article...

We had our Christmas dinner on Monday the 26th this year. I am certain that I didn't have anything to eat that contained gluten, but I was sick all Monday night. The only thing questionable that I consumed was a Sam's Choice (Walmart brand) root beer. The only questionable ingredients on it's label are caramel coloring and natural flavoring. I have a call in to Walmart to find out if their root beer contains gluten or not. I really want to find out if I had a gluten episode... - Read Full Article...

This Blog board has been pretty dead these past few weeks. Seems after the initial flurry of activity, we've run out of things to say and hardly any new entries are posted.About three weeks ago I went out to eat lunch with a friend at a place called Cafe Max. It's a very popular place with the business lunch crowd and serves soups and salads. I used to eat there years ago, but hadn't been in a long time...even before my diagnosis. I had the Ceasar salad and the seafood... - Read Full Article...

We're going over to some friends' house to play 42 tonight (for those who don't know what that is, it's a domino game). We play lots of rounds of 42 and eat, eat, eat. The hostess called today to ask if I could eat Hershey's chocolate; said she was going to make something gluten-free for me. She's really sweet, is a diabetic herself so she knows what it's like to watch her diet. There's usually lots of good stuff that I can eat anyway, though, and I had already made a chocolate... - Read Full Article...

WooHoo! They settled! Three down, five to go. We'll probably have to go ahead and go to court with at least one of the defendant's, but that's to be expected.

I spent the better part of the day in a legal mediation. Boring. Man, I'm glad I don't have to do that for a living We're involved in a patent litigation in which my husband is the inventor and the company who owns the patent has sued about 8-9 big companies for infringement. Because I'm a major stockholder, they wanted me to attend the mediation today to see if we could settle before trial, which is in October. It's not that I have anything of value to say or contribute... - Read Full Article...

Hey, I finally rec'd my Chebe bread order. Last night I used the original mix to make hot dog buns. They weren't like any bun I've every had, but they were good. Since the instructions said to flatten them out to about 1/2 inch, I thought they might rise. But no, they were still 1/2 inch thick when they finished cooking. They were crusty on the outside and kind of chewy on the inside. I sliced them in half lengthwise so we could put our hot dogs and bratwurst inside them... - Read Full Article...

Wow, my picture made the screen so wide that I can't see the whole thing. I'm still bothered by my neck, although it's quite a bit better. I went to get my hair cut today and the lady who washed it took forever. I don't know what she was doing, but it wasn't helping my neck hanging backward over the sink like that for so long. I ordered some Chebe bread a couple of days ago and am hoping to make some hot-pocket like things for my son to take with him to school. It's... - Read Full Article...

I've had a terrible crik (sp?) in my neck for the past week. It started Monday and by Tues. I could hardly turn my head. It was 90% better on Wed. and Thurs., but came back with a vengeance on Friday. Now it's better this morning. I don't know what's causing it. Ouch!
Here's another picture of a mural I did. I paint with a friend and she painted almost all of the water...did a fabulous job. I painted the whale tail and she painted the water all around it and ...- Read Full Article...

A couple of people have asked for my blackberry cobbler recipe, so here it is:2 cups sugar1/3 cup butter2 cups flour (I use Bob's Red Mill gluten-free)2 tsp. baking powder1 tsp. salt1 cup milk2 cups blackberries (fresh or frozen)** 2 cups boiling water**The doughy part is overwhelming to me so I either increase the berries or half the dough part of the recipe. It turns out fine either way.Cream 1 cup of sugar with the butter; add flour, baking powder, salt, and milk; mix will... - Read Full Article...

Got up at 6:30 this morning so I could get another coat of paint on my patio before the rain comes again. I won't complain about the rain because we sure need it. We've been as dry as bones around here this summer. But I'd sure like to get my painting done so I can put the gazebo up.I need to go to Home Depot to get the supplies I need to make some concrete pads to bolt the gazebo to so I don't have to bolt them directly into the patio. But, alas, I've got houseguests coming... - Read Full Article...

I was making good progress on painting my patio today. I've been holding off on painting for the past few days because rain was forcasted. We'd get a lot of thunder, lightning, and bluster so I didn't want to paint if it was going to get rained on before it dried. But we never got any rain. Today, I decided to just go ahead and paint...got a lot done, then it clouded up so much I decided to put my paints away and go inside. Sure enough, it came a downpour...all over my... - Read Full Article...

My daughter and I planned to go to the grand opening of the new Ikea store in the Dallas area yesterday. We were getting ready to go, but thankfully my daughter was listening to the radio and they were talking about the opening. They said that all the parking places were full and that the line to get in was all the way around the bldg.I hate crowds like that so we decided not to go. It's about a 30 minute drive for us so I would have been annoyed if I drove all that way... - Read Full Article...

So what's up with that? Who wants to rate someone else's blog? What are we supposed to do...indicate that someone's blog is terrible? Or compare it to everyone else's blog and indicate that one is better than all the others? If you ask me, that feature should disappear. In fact, I'm on a mission to find out how to get it off my blog.

Wow, after reading a few blogs here and the suffering that so many celiacs have endured, I realize that I've had it easy!I have a very close family friend that had a mental breakdown when he was in his 50's. He was subsequently diagnosed with celiac disease so that's how I became familiar with the disease.Fast forward about 12 yrs. later and I happened to be talking to my uncle (mother's youngest brother) who, at the time, was about 54. He told me he had been losing weight... - Read Full Article...

It's Sunday. We just got back from worship services then eating at our favorite Indian food restaurant. Thankfully, most of their food is gluten-free. About the only thing we can't eat there is their wonderful flat bread (nan and roti). Oh, how we miss it!Lindylynn asked me what kind of dog Pearlie is. I'm not sure how to respond to her comment on my blog yet, so I'll just answer here. Pearlie is a Maltipoo (not a Bichon). A maltipoo is half Poodle, half Maltese. If... - Read Full Article...
