this has gone so far off topic. Why not start a new thread to debate these enzymes? let’s get back to the question of what we think of the Nima and if we have any other way to test food.
-
What? I only gave one link to something about issues with the Nima sensor. I didn’t put anything about GliadinX. Why are you attacking me? I believe I was actually on- topic with my response I was actually there a few years ago when the research was presented. I don't believe I have said anything against it since then and I can’t see whe...

Tomato soup

Pacific makes a gluten-free tomato soup -
Oats are harvested and stored in the same equipment as wheat . but I think people have no clue about how stuff is made. I have seen people sure that bread is made on The same machine as cheese or milk or chicken. It wouldn’t even be made In The same building! I think we should use a little common sense. A machine that makes cookies can’t...

MSG is gluten free, so the test for gluten wouldn’t work. I suppose you could find a place that tests food and buy some and send them in. You might contact colleges That offer food science degrees. For instance, in Kansas, K State does analysis on foods. Not sure if this will work or not. fries and milkshakes are very salty, as well as C...

I guess it’s theoretically possible gluten could be just about anywhere. But lots of us have had dental work - lots very extensive- as Celiac tends to mess up teeth. You could get the brands , etc and try to contact them. But I never bother any longer.

Home testing for gluten is not very accurate for a lot of reasons. One is that people don’t prepare samples or use the tests correctly. Here is some info about the Nima https://www.glutenfreewatchdog.org/news/gluten-free-watchdogs-updated-position-statement-on-the-nima-sensor-for-gluten/ joining the gluten-free watchdog is a g...

I haven’t encountered gluten in anything at the dentist. I am in the US, but not sure that matters. In fact, was just talking with the hygienist and she said that before they used to have to ask companies about gluten now most stuff is labeled gluten-free. But the dentist isn’t usually the one who seems to pay attention to that ( and his daughter has Cel...

Distillation versus fermentation
kareng replied to Linzy1208's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Fermentation does not remove the gluten - distillation has no gluten in the finished product. The gluten doesn’t/ can’t float up into the steam. There seems to be a lot of confusion of the two terms -
You didn’t have any xanthum gum ? That helps mimic the “ glue” in gluten.

Some bread doesn’t come out of the freezer as well as others. Pre- slice it into the size you want - don’t try to cut it frozen or after thawing. Then a brief warm up in the microwave or toaster can help the oils re-distribute, looking at the recipe - you haven’t added any extra oil. So that might help. You might try adding a chia egg or ot...

Is TriLyte colonoscopy prep gluten free?
kareng replied to Neo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You can get a different brand but your pharmacist has no idea. Maltodextrin is gluten-free and sweeteners and flavorings are rarely an issue. And, if you looked at their website, it says it is gluten-free. You should ask the doctor what other prep he or she will except . I get the feeling you are just dragging you feet a bit? I get it, it’s... -
Distillation versus fermentation
kareng replied to Linzy1208's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Fermentation is completely different than distillation. Beer is fermented. Fermentation does not “remove” gluten which is why regular beer Or soy sauce is not gluten-free -
Just know that most of their tests are not considered medically valid. Not sure if they will do a real celiac blood panel for you or not.
-
The total IGA being a bit low, isn’t Celiac. There are specific tests your doctor can run, usually called a “Celiac panel” that are the actual blood tests for Celiac. The total serum IGA is run with it to determine if you can make enough “IGAs “ to have a valid IGA Celiac test. Being a bit low should not affect the IGA celiac tests. not sure what...

Letter to FDA encouraging enforcement
kareng replied to kareng's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Part of the email sent by gluten-free watchdog ( reprinted with her permission) ”While we have been advised by FDA that progress is being made, there continues to be lax enforcement of the gluten-free labeling rule and manufacturers continue to misuse the gluten-free labeling claim. The Food and Drug Administration is a Health and Human Services a... -
In the last week, the Gluten-free Watchdog has been contacted about several products labeled gluten-free but listing wheat or barley as an ingredient. Please take the time to email or twitter or whatever form you like and let the FDA know that the gluten-free labeling law is important and should be enforced.

Mrs. Butterworth's Lite Syrup
kareng replied to lou37's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It’s likely gluten-free. But I have a problem with some of the artificial sweeteners - especially aspartame . It’s gluten-free but it gives me pain and bloating - and pretty quickly, while in the stomach probably. Gluten would take longer as it needs to be in the small intestine. stuff like flavors or colorings could start as wheat but the... -

What are the ingredients? Last time I had it, it didn’t contain gluten - but that is probably a few years ago.
