  1. We like to find humor where we can!
  2. Seriously.... no gluten in dental floss. And you can find unwaxed.....
  3. Sound like an allergy? But I would still get her tested for Celiac while she is there.
  4. I would suggest that when you visit, see if you can just hang out in the cafeteria and watch. If you see someone going in to the gluten-free area - ask them about their experiences. When I was touring colleges with my youngest - we would stop kids and ask them questions and none of them seem to mind (or at least they were all polite about it! )
  5. Every once in a while, I like to put this on here: If you would like recipes or more info or help with the things we are making for dinner - I think I can speak for most of us - we are happy to help. Part of the purpose of this thread has been to help people who aren't sure what they can eat or are new to cooking. For myself - if you ask me a question...
  6. Last night I "grilled" some chicken. Then put it on a nice salad - spinach, romaine, red bell peppers, orange slices, red onions, feta and toasted pecans with vinaigrette. Had to toast the pecans as they had been in the freezer & fridge for a LONG time. Made them much tastier!
  7. Last night we went to a local restaurant. I had a lovely trout almondine with a cauliflower puree and green beans. YUM! Tonight I will indoor "grill" some chicken an we will have a nice big salad.
  8. We have separate tubes because we have 2 sinks in the bathroom. But on vacation, we share toothpaste.
  9. Find out what they do to feed the gluten-free students. You may be able to meet people in the dining hall. For example, at my boys' college, the sandwich station pulls out a purple box with the gluten-free bread, cutting board, etc for a gluten-free person. My son met girls this way.
  10. Great! We used some left over chicken chili on nachos. I really need to figure out how to cook now M is at college and no longer eating left overs for lunch!
  11. Looks like no one has eaten dinner or cooked for a few days! My hub was out of town for a few days - so I didn't really cook much of anything. Last night we had a lovely potato and pancetta frittata. With a spinach, orange, red onion, feta and vinegrette salad. Tonight - chipolte chicken chili
  12. There is no reason to warn you about grapes. They are safe for Celiacs. You may have a problem with some part of the grapes - some people, Celiac or not, do. There was no way for your nutritionist to know that you have an issue with them.
  13. Grapes do not contain gluten. Grapes do have other things that may bother a person, especially a person who has not healed well yet. Don't eat them and try them again in a few months would be my suggestion.
  14. When most people and doctors refer to a " Celiac panel" they are talking about the Celiac antibody tests. the DNA test is usually separate in the USA. Just having a gene for Celiac does not mean you have Celiac as about 30% of the population have the gene but only about 1% have Celiac. Like I said before, ask your questions in the forum - more people...
  15. Last night I made chicken noodle soup!
  16. Just an FYI - This thread is from 2008. The pasta is certified gluten-free and made in a dedicated gluten-free facility. http://www.barilla.com/gluten-free-pasta
  17. This is the blog section - sort of an on-line diary. And you are welcome to post here but.... If you want to ask questions and get members to answer, you might want to post over in the forum.
  18. I made some pulled pork in the crockpot so the last 2 days we have and sandwiches with Gates BBQ sauce on it and a vinegar (not evil mayo) based coleslaw. Add a tart apple, like granny smith, to the coleslaw! So good! Tonight we are having chicken mole enchiladas with a rice with some veggies in it 0 carrot, peas, corn, peppers. Tomorrow night we...
  19. I will do the dishes if you cook for me! And I won't whine about it....not even once. Edit- forgot to add what I am having - grilled chicken, oranges, red peppers, walnuts on spinach salad.
  20. Why do corn tortillas need Corn syrup & guar gum? I know you don't know.... I am just wondering. Corn syrup and guar gum are 2 things that some people have issues with.
  21. Here: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/blog/1148/entry-2038-brynjas-artichoke-sausage-baked-ziti-and-a-white-chocolate-almond-amaretto-cheesecake/ The blogs sort of fall off the first page and a few weeks from now, this link will be easier
  22. This week, we had a yummy beef, Ital sausage, potato and bell pepper dish. I put too much broth in it so it was more like stew. Very yummy. Added a bit of red wine and some pepper flakes. Tonight nachos and refried bean dip.
  23. I think the goal calories will depend....... If you haven't been eating anything for a long time, you might have to go slowly. You might look at eating disorder treatments? They have to start slowly or they can't handle/ digest well. When my mom was very bad, the dietician said to eat every 2 hours a hundred calorie snack - some nuts, peanut butter,...
  24. Last night - chicken tortilla soup Tonight - smashed tomato and arugula sauce on pasta
  25. America's Test Kitchen tests many things and gives their opinions of good and bad - it's not just gluten-free flour mixes or products. They do that with blenders, knives, ketchup, etc. They are just telling us which products, of the ones they tested, work the best or aren't as good. They are like Consumer Reports for recipes and cooking.
