  1. We're in Malden about 12 miles SW of the Saturday dinner venue.
  2. Weather report: 10 minutes ago at the airport just west of me: 88F feels like 108F. I'm indoors with the AC on.
  3. Gas is really different. I lived in a house with a gas stove for about a year, before I met Jacquie. It would be a major project to fit gas into our kitchen, so we are staying with electric heat.
  4. The package says 5-7 minutes at 375--not enough.
  5. We baked two personal pizzas on Udi's crusts this evening. I think the old oven was running at less than quite the specified temperature, assuming the new one is accurate. We may need to adjust temperatures or timings on some recipes.
  6. It is branded Kenmore, but is likely made for them by Whirlpool. We have several Kenmore appliances and Whirlpool made the ones where we know the actual maker. No "convection" as promoted when forced by a fan, but convective heat transfer takes place in every oven on the planet. Convection.
  7. Well, we had good reports from family members who have them (smooth cook tops) and are happy, so we will see how it goes. We did most of our research in October when we almost lost the old guy. Out with the (g)old... And in with the new... And it was on sale at 20% off! ETA: the close range and short focal length (wide angle) causes distortion...
  8. Well, it is time for another adventure with the stove. Those of you with long memories may recall service calls in October and November on our ancient stove--specifically the oven. We used it Saturday and it was fine. Yesterday, it incinerated some nacho chips by running the grill element when it was supposed to be baking at 350. We are expecting Tony the...
  9. We had rain, heavy at times, in the morning. But it stopped just past noon. It was sunny at times. Right now, I am looking out the front window at the setting sun hitting the tops of the trees in the back yard across the road.
  10. More on my FB page. Scroll down to find where I share Rob's photo.
  11. Really. The list of things that can be included in the ingredient "spices" covers many things, including herbs. But no grains or grain products. Clubhouse is a McCormick brand sold in Canada. It has long been McCormick's policy to explicitly declare any gluten source on the label. In Canada, since August 4, 2012, ALL gluten sources must be explicitly...
  12. Why do you dread "spices?" Nothing made from a grain can hide there. "Seasonings" is a different animal, though.
  13. I wasn't paying any attention this time around, but yes, page 100 has arrived and with it, Her Royal Majesty, Queen Karen. Fanfare, please.
  14. Neroli (Mushroom) passed away a couple of days ago. More here in the memorial thread..
  15. Modified food starch must be declared clearly as wheat if that is the source. That has been the law since 2006, but some old information is still out there. MFS is almost always from either tapioca or corn. Adalaide is right, it won't be rye, barley or oats.
  16. Actually, you asked the wrong question, triggering the response dictated by the legal department. They will not answer any question about "gluten-free" because to say yes opens them to legal liability if one of their suppliers accidentally provides a contaminated ingredient. Ask if the product contains gluten, and they will tell you that any gluten source...
  17. More great weather, and the first barbecue of the season is grilling as I type. Corn on the cob and hamburgers with Udi's gluten-free buns.
  18. Maybe at Wendy's, but never at McDonalds. Doing that would taint the fry oil and affect the taste of the fries. The taste of the fries is sacred at McD and nothing is ever allowed to contaminate the oil. It is not to keep it gluten-free, but we do benefit as a side effect.
  19. Well, apparently summer has arrived. Winter ended yesterday. The power company flipped to summer time-of-use charges today, and tossed in a rate hike to liven it up. Lovely weather, so we mostly set up the back deck and had supper out there. The barbecue isn't set up yet. Maybe I'll get to it tomorrow. Hit 20C (68F) this afternoon under sunny skies, and...
  20. Well, my past has been remembered in public. A former colleague writes a weekly column online about computer security. I got a heads-up from him that he had mentioned me in today's edition. Click here to see it. This was the time leading up to my diagnosis in mid 2000, when my health was in the crapper, BTW.
