Nope... nothing on the menu... just rice pudding.
I can see the rationale... I imagine that orzo or whatever pasta they use holds up better in the creamy sauce... but HALLOOOO... don't call it rice when it's NOT.
-
This was ME not long ago.... I really thought I was gluten-free when I was doing things like taking croutons off my salad and blowing away the crumbs. The fine folks here set me straight, thank goodness!!
-
I went to a local restaurant for dinner last night and our waiter was awesome. I began to explain my dietary issues and he interrupted with "Oh... do you have Celiac? One of our waitresses does too!" He was most accommodating ... asked the chef about the crust on the fish, asked if anything included flour, etc. So... when my rice pudding for dessert was placed in front of me (no flour I was assured) the Celiac waitress, who just happened to be walking by, said, "Hey... you can't eat that. The rice is really PASTA!!"
YIKES!! I sent them a letter this morning thanking them for the wonderful dinner, but perhaps they should either disclose that the rice pudding is made with pasta... OR make it with rice!!!

A new shopping center in Warrington, PA, is going to have a Wegmans and a PF Changs!! I'm beside myself. I've only been to a PF Changs once as the closest one to me is about 1 1/4 hours away!! I can't wait!!

I work right around the corner from Jules. The owner is super nice (Jules is his older daughter. Hers and Bella's photos are on the wall of the restaurant).
I talked to him for a while before ordering the pear, brie, rosemary, and chopped almond gluten-free pizza to find out how he cooks them away from the regular pizzas. Can we say YUMMM???
As I expected, they are pricey, but they are an unbelievable treat!
I've lived for the last 25 years in and around New Hope, PA. I also grew up not far from Washington's Crossing. Pretty out here!!
-
There oughta be a law against that... that's why I now read EVERY label, EVERY SINGLE TIME!!
-
So have we ascertained that no one ships gluten-free beer? Our Whole Foods won't carry it I'm sure, as I live in PA with the dumbest liquor laws on the books!! I might have to make a road trip to NYC!!
-
I've found that the longer I'm gluten-free, the more sensitive I've become. I'm reading EVERY label EVERY SINGLE TIME anymore!!
-
No rashes here... but I'm experiencing similar "attacks" (all intestinal) after years of being fine. I think I've gotten quite careless and have been accidentally glutened several times in the past month. For example... I JUST learned that many of the light sour creams have modified food starch... I've NEVER even looked at the label, cause how would wheat, etc. go in sour cream???
I am back to reading EVERY SINGLE LABEL EVERY SINGLE TIME. When did I become so confident and stop doing that anyhow??
-
I have it and my middle daughter of 3 has it. I'm fairly certain my sister and possibly my brother have it but neither will be tested!!
-
I'd kill for a gluten-free beer. I miss beer as much as I miss bread.
-
I've always been an average weight... always wanting to lose about 20 lbs (and doing it several times). I didn't get the unexplained weight loss symptom of celiac, and AFTER going gluten-free, I packed on about 30 lbs!! At the moment I'm doing Weight Watchers on my own to try and lose about 40-50 lbs. I'm about 6 down... many more to go!!
-
Just ordered mine!!
-
I read that there is a new pizza joint in NYC with gluten-free pizza AND gluetn-free beer!! I've thought about coming all the way up (2 hours) just for that!!

I'd never heard of it till I was diagnosed!
My symptoms started in the summer after spending weekends boating in the Delaware River. My doc thought I'd picked up some ugly bug or something and put me thru a course of Flagyl while we waited for my blood work to come back.
My daughter's fiance started having mild gut symptoms that progressed over the next year till he finally took himself to the doctor who suggested gluten intolerance. He thinks I "witch cursed" him!! haha
After my diagnosis, I'm convinced that my sister's lifelong eczema and skin/internal allergies and my brother's occasional eczema are gluten related... but neither will be tested!!

Is he having tubes put into his ears? The procedure does only take 5 minutes, but they'll put him out and will want him to wake up a little before he goes home. My daughter had some cereal before she left, so just bring some crackers or a light snack (similar to toast or crackers) and some juice you know he'll like.

Sour cream!
Yep... my newly diagnosed daughter pointed out to me that the sour cream I'd been enjoying had modified food starch! You could have knocked me over with a feather!!
Regular, full fat, doesn't contain MFS, but some brands of the lite sour cream do... go figure!!

Yea, I've gotten the "Can't you just eat a LITTLE??" Yea, I answered... if I want MOLTEN ACID shooting out my butt.
When I explained to some nice older ladies at the bake sale table that I couldn't eat any of their wares... and told them why, they gasped and said, "Oh my... WHAT do you eat??" I looked down at myself (I didn't GET the unexplained weight loss symptom...) and said, "Um... do I look like I'm starving??"
-
Also... how did you find the bread on day 2 or 3? I've made some homemade recipes and find they end up tasting and acting like the commercial brands out there... crumbly and not very good tasting.
I'm still a Manna from Anna fan. Haven't found one bread better!!
-
Kettle cooked Lays are so good, I'm sorry my daughter even GAVE them to me!! Now I have to stay away cause I'm trying to lose weight... (I didn't get the weight loss symptom of celiac disease...)
-
I LOVE cereal and was going to start hunting down these brands... but the reality is that I have a real problem with cereal and portion control. I can quite happily eat the whole box at one sitting!!! haha
So, I guess I'll stick with my yogurt and banana on work days and my bacon and eggs on the weekends!

Oh man... we just found Bone Suckin' Sauce... it's delish!
I've found that often the "store brand" of things like BBQ sauce and spaghetti sauce have better ingredients than the big name brands. Often the big name brands will have modified food starch and high fructose corn syrup (which doesn't have anything to do with celiac disease but is just a sugar no one needs!!) when the cheaper store brand does not!! Check them out!

After trying several OTC breads and several from scratch recipes, Manna from Anna bread mix is my fav. I make it once a week or so. I also make it sometimes in English muffin rounds for rolls.
Check her out at mannafromanna.com

I got the list, celiac3270! Thanks a million!!
I still pick up things I KNOW are not gluten free and think... maybe THIS time it will be... hahaha.
I'm so lucky that those who love me also can and do read ingredients before they buy them to cook with.
Oprah - Let's Get Cd On Her Show

I was gonna jump in and help here, but I'll have to tell you that I've sworn off Oprah after that ridiculous show where she her nose was just about scraping the ceiling while she was telling author James Frey ("A Million Little Pieces") how "embarrassed and disappointed" she was. Ugh... she was so obnoxious. I'm not watching her anymore.
