Mari's Achievements

  1. This sounds more like an allergic reaction to me. I've read that some people have gotten meds from their Drs to cope with allergic reactions - maybe benadryl or antihistamines.

The cheese may have contained mold toxins and it may help to take high doses of Vit. C. Cheese also can contain a variety of other organisms which may overgrow very rapidly. People with intestinal problems do best by eating only cooked dairy products. Pasturization does not steralize dairy products.

  2. You can call and have the lab tests results sent to you. If you post them here we can help you understand the results and tell if you had the necesary tests to rule out celiac disease.

This website will help you understand many of the problems caused by gluten.

  3. I found this website a good soure of information on all types of gluten problems.

Introduction - The Gluten Syndrome, GlutenSensitivity, Gluten ...

I use the SCD - a person doesn't have to have many cooking skills to choose foods from their 'Legal' Food List.

  4. I have had a problem with irritability for years and had no clue to what was making me irritable until I read about the toxins some intestinal bacteria produce which triggers mood problems. The author was Hulda Clark, PhD, ND. She used medical research and her dignostic methods to conclude that some enteric organisms such as Shigella and toxin producing E. Coli produced toxic chemicals which left people irritable and depressed. I started using her programs years ago, one of the herbs she recommended was turmeric. I took that for only a short time before my depression and irritability began to disappear. I had had gastroenteritis several times and was an undiagnosed Celiac so not only had acquired the organisms earlier but was very succeptable to gastrointestinal infections. Metametrix Labs offers an enteric stool panel which identifies harmful organisms in the intestine.

  5. Being hungry and snaking was which alerted me to a problem with intestinal candida. I had had vaginal Candida/yeasts which sometimes flared up but it wasn't until I read messages about the intestinal problems that clued me in to the cause of some of my problems. Candida produces something which stirs up the hunger response and tells us to eat, and especially carbohydrates and sweets so we are feeding the yeast instead of ourselves. There are also some parasites which leave us feeling hungry. You may want to have your Dr order the Metametrix Laboratories enteric panel which will identify the harmful organisms in the intestine. There are both medical treatments and herbal/alternative self treatments for these harmful organisms.

  6. Back 50 years ago gluten sensitivity was usually diagnosed by eliminating wheat, barley and rye from the diet and noticing the improvement. Your son may have had a wheat allergy and this may have cleared up as he got older. He may have had non-celiac sprue (Leaky Gut Syndrome) which cleared up on the gluten free diet, especially if he was gluten-free at 5 months when the intestinal wall matures and prevents food antigens from entering the body. If he had autoimmune Celiac Disease it may have become silent but there may have been some continuing damage to his small intestine even tho he had no symptoms.

I suggest having him tested by the genetic DNA tests which would tell if he is predisposed to developing Celiac Disease and Leaky Gut Syndrome. Also the Molecular Serology test (Prometheus Labs) could give the same information. There are several labs online which can do the DNA tests, I used Enterolab.com. The serology test is ordered by Drs.

  7. There are severak thungs I have done to help the "hungry' feelings and reduce craving sweets and gain weight. I had Intestinal Candida which causes a person to feel hungry especially for sweets - used Candida Herbs and Neem. Bacterial overgrowths - used probiotics (goat's milk kefir worked best) and the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Had a tangle of tapeworms and other parasites - used herbal parasite programs. Then I started eating about 1/2 watermelon a day for the past 4 months and this has really helped. I eat watermelon whenever I feel hungry. So doing this and eating my usual amount of food I've been able to gain 10 lbs. , I was emaciated and am now just a little slender.

  8. I had itching in the vulva and vagina for years before I was diag. with Celiac Sprue. The undiagnosed celiac caused leaking from the anus, fecal incontence, which was annoying but usually not very noticable. Besides the itching I would get repeated bladder infections after intercourse, the fecal bacteria were pushed up into my urethra. Other celiacs have mentioned this problem. It has cleared up on the gluten-free diet. I also had endometriosis and uncomfortable intercourse but was able to find a lubricant wich helped and stopped the bladder infections. I would think that you might try disinfecting the anal and vulvular area before and after intercourse. A 10% solution of ethanol or 100 proof vodka would do this. Some people use diluted human safe Iodine solution (made with water instead of denatured alcohol).

  9. I had what the Drs think was a TIA several days ago. I read that Celiac's have this problem. A CAT scan did not show that I had a stroke but only some narrowing of my neck arteries. My blood pressure was quite high (175/130) but that had dropped to 130 by the next day. More tests to come. I have Celiac Sprue, non-celiac gluten sensitivity, possible Lupus, chemical sensitivities, mild DH.

    Anybody else have this problem?

  10. I was getting better on the gluten-free/df diet when about 2 years ago I took antibiotics for a tooth infection. Over the next year I lost weight and went back to a very limited diet. The SCD helped but eventually I realized I had intestinal overgrowths of Candida and several bacteria. I was able to reduce the overgrowth problems but my digestion did not improve evry much. I remembered that one food I could eat when I would had problems before I was diagnosed was watermelon. So I began eating about 1/2 watermelon a day and over the past several months my digestive problems have improved and I've been able to gain about 10 lbs. so I have gone from gaunt, emaciated to just rather thin. I ate as much as I could of my regular diet amd used goat milk kefir for probiotics.

There is a weight loss Watermelon diet that seems to work well for many people.

  11. I had that kind of reaction to Librium and an over the counter intestinal spasmotic. I would stop taking it. I have had considerable relief from anxiety and depression by taking turmeric (see instructions online) as much as you can tolerate. Shigella and some E. coli produce toxins which cause depression and turmeric wont allow them to grow. Also advised is cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, hot peppers which may also help reduce the numbers of Samonella, yeasts and other toxin producing organisms in the gut. My depression lifted within a few days with turmeric. Consider having a Metametrix Lab enteric panel done. DNA analysis can show whether harmful organisms including parasites are in your intestine. Recently medical Drs have developed some good tests and treatments which treat specific organisms or groups of similar organisms. Because I react to so many Rx s I use alternative and herbal programs to deal with these invaders.

  12. This morning I came across a website that I had not seen before - The Gluten Syndrome and it is full of information about all of the different problems gluten can cause and their section on lab tests is very good.

You may have to find a Dr who will work with you in resolving your health problems, some people find that seeing a DC or ND is helpful. Some people do start living gluten free but I would suggest that you take some time to decide the next step before doing that as going back on gluten may make you feel ill. The Enterolab.com website may also help you understand what to do next. None of the blood tests can rule out celiac disease or gluten problems, they can miss 20 to 30% of Celiacs.

You could start eliminating some non-gluten foods from your diet - corn, soy, cow's milk, hot peppers - common foods which cause problems in Celiac's and non-Celiacs.

It may help us make cmments if you would describe your symptoms.

  13. I have had problems like this for years, and find that I'm reluctant to get into situations which raise my anxiety, I don't always have what I think of as emotional stamina.

I looked at their website and apparently they are still offering the test. I may have missed it but they do not seem to be a FDA or US Government approved Lab. At Rippoff.com 8 people have not received their reports. One complaint noted that you can get a refund from PayPal within 45 days of paying for the test. The first complaint was in 2008, the most recent in 2010.

Problems which could have occured if other people have received their results:

The lab didn't receive the sample - maybe the mailing label came off or the postal system lost or couldn't deliver the sample.

The sample intake at the lab is careless and looses specimens or mislabels the specimen so that your results were sent to somebody else or lost.

They are so far behind in testing and sendng out lab reports that your tests are still waiting to be processed.

So how can you find out what happened and get either a refund or a new kit at no expense? I would suggest you (or a friend) Call/email Optimum. If they don't respond go to the USPS website and the FDA website and see if you can file a complaint. If you paid by credit card contact the credit card company and they may investigate the problem.

Let us know if you can't do this yourself or can't resolve the problem. Some of us will be able to help you.

  14. I have found that I can't tolerate most of the probiotics, apparently they were contaminated with something I react to. The one I like best and has no side effects is Acidophilus 9 - it has 9 normal gut bacteria. I found it at the 'tao of herbs' online. Another I use is futurebiotics Vegetarian Enzyme Complex, a multi probiotic and Multienzyme complex. For a while I used goat's milk yogurt and kefir - the Specific Charbohydrate Diet describes how to make the yogurt as the commercial yogurts are not digested long enough to be safe for Celiacs and contain additives.

  15. I avoid anything that may be cross contaminated because I'm sensitive to tiny amounts of gluten foods but other people who are less sensitive can use them. Washing beans with hot water and soaking overnight with 1 tablespoon of baking soda may help. Using sprouted grains and beans can be tolerated by some people, I can eat amaranth this way. There are websites which describe how to do this.

  16. What you describe, the fog, forgetting what I was going to say or unable to find words and all the rest has been a part of my life, too. Part of the problem has been stiffness in the muscles of my neck which hindered the blood flow to my brain so I have learned to relax and strengthen those muscles by massage and exercises. Whenever I'm exposed to certain chemicals my neck muscles immediately become tightened because (so a chiropractor told me) it is instinctive to jerk the head back as if to avoid the chemical. I react to perfumes, motor oil, gasoline and any organic solvent, glossy magazine covers, new furniture and rugs, rug cleaners and deoderizers, chlorine, many cleaning solutions, auto and motor exhaust and more. I have read about other causes - and there are both medical and alternative remedies for having a buildup of toxins and pollutants in the body, improving both liver and kidney function helps, making sure out bodies are slightly alkaline rather than acid, treating various intestinal bacteria, yeasts and parasites which produce toxins which are adsorbed into the body.

This morning I was reading some of the information at 'The Gluten Syndrome' website and saw that there is a section on why some people feel worse when they go gluten free.

  17. I remember having severe bone pains when I was a child but only occasionally as an adult. And I have had a lot of pain over the years from rigid and cramping muscles. I learned to adjust my diet to eat a balance of foods which leave my body slightly alkaline and I tend to become acid very easily. The taste of a food is not an indication of whether it will leave a person more alkaline or acid because it is the digestion of the food which determines the effect. An easy way to determine if a person is too acid is using a pH paper on saliva first thing in the morning before eating or brushing teeth. Acid forming foods include complex carbohydrates such as gluten, all grains, meat and fish. Most vegetables and fruits are alkaline forming. Baking soda alkalinizes the body and I often take a small amount in water before going to bed or when I begin to feel rigid or cramping muscles.

  18. Some people are able to dislodge stuck stones by fasting followed by a dose of epsom salts and then taking one 300 mg Magnesium oxide capsule each day. some experts advise drinking 5 glasses of water a day, no coffee/tea or high sugar drinks or foods which are dehydrating. Magnesium relaxes the bile ducts. I also eat fresh grapefruit which has a similar effect. I have been doing liver flushes for about 20 years and in a program which also kills intestinal parasites, improves kidney function and dissolves hard calcium stones in the gall bladder and bile tubes in the liver. (some people use organic apple juice or malic acid to soften hard gallstones). I passed thousands of stones. After 5 years gluten-free I'm making very few gallstones. Sludge can also clog the gall bladder and bile system and I read that Drs advise using a high fiber diet to help with that problem so I included either hemp seed meal or gluten-free oat bran with meals. Other have found rice bran easier to tolerate.

I have read that in some people with celiac disease that have gall bladder problems clear up naturally so it could be that the swelling and inflamation in the small intestine is hindering bile flow and when the reaction subsides the stones formed in the bile system come out naturally as they do in a normal person.

  19. If you could get copies of your lab work - the gene test, the antibody tests - and post them here we may be able to tell what they mean and why the Dr thought the gene test was messed up.

After 5 years gluten-free/cow df I still get tingles in my legs - it seems to be a reflection of muscle spams, cramped areas and trapped gas in my gut. The solar plexus, a main nerve center is in the mid abdomen and the nerves which go to the legs come off that nerve center. For years I thought I had an uneven heart beat and spasms but it turned out to be intestinal spasms. Sometimes I still have numbness in my hands when it is cold. I had an arthritis - like extreme pain and swelling in knees and wrist which cleared up after about a year gluten-free.

  21. I have Celiac Sprue and lots of liver spots. Exposure to sun does make tham darker and I can bleach out the color by taking parasite killing herbs - but the color comes back over time. Hulda Clark called these 'fluke spots' and from my years of experience in doing parasite exams in labs and further reading there is evidence that she was correct. One person using a modified Hulda Clark's zapper was able to eradicate his fluke spots although he thought that there was also a virus present in addition to the parasite. The usual fluke live cycle has a snail as an intermediate host and the fluke immature forms cause pigmented lesions in the snails. In humans, Flukes immature forms/larvae from ova which have hatched in the intestine can migrate to other parts of the body and it seems that some migrate to the skin. Humans carry several kinds of flukes in the intestine, liver and bile system and kidneys. Some flukes can burrow through the shin from infected water and water plants. Fluke ova are ingested in under cooked meat and raw fish. There are both herbal and medical treatments which are effective for flukes in the body but usually do not eradicate fluke spots. One herbal treatment uses a tincture of green black walnuts. I used this on fluke spots on one hand but not the other and it bleached out the color on the treated hand and now have fewer fluke spots on that hand.

  22. If I eat too much fats or oils at one time I produce fatty stools. Part of my problem is that my body sometimes does not produce enough bile to emulsify the fats/oils so that they can be digested and don't produce enough pancreatic enzymes to digest them.

  23. I get swelling in my ankles 2 to 3 days after eating cow's milk, even butter. I figured this out by eliminating cow's milk and later on a test showed I had ann allergy to cow's milk. With butter the swelling is mild and only in the ankles but larger amounts cause more swelling and continued use causes the lower leg to bloat. I can get the swelling to go down by wrapping the lower leg in an ace bandage.
