  1. My friends want to go to Applebees for dinner tonight. What am I getting myself in for? Are they good? I looked on-line and saw that they had a menu for wheat free. Do they do gluten free? What have people's experiences been like?

    Thanks.

    I eat there often!

I get the 7 (or 10) oz. top sirloin, and two baked potatoes with butter on the side :)

  2. The ONLY things I can have at my sonic are the drinks and the ice cream (I like the M&M blast) but I have gotten sick before when the put oreo cookies in my blast at the bottom and didn't re-make it...

I can't eat any of the food because they have one fryer and one grill

    Sucks but oh well

  3. Well I am SHOCKED! There are over a 100 kids at this camp, and a girl in MY family group has CELIAC! I knew there was a reason I was supposed to be here THIS week, and I've been praying over it, I guess this was it...She's going through a really tough transition period and needs a friend who understands. Praise God. She's kinda feeling left out with everyone around her eating wheat so I think I'll talk to the Dean about letting her eat lunch with me or something...I've been just eating on the run, but I'm willing to sit at the table in the foyer and eat with her....

As for my little sister, she's doing great, things are a little awkward for her but she gets why I have to eat different food (for the most part anyway) so that's good. She's worn out tho, (and I am too)

Ravenwoodglass: Thanks :) I don't mind the questions so much as the "eating disorder" look....where people try to get you to eat foods and don't believe you are eating.

  4. I am glad you vented before you exploded - and I really hope it made you feel a bit better. Your sister is so blessed to have you there to take care of her and protect her. Don't let your sacrifices steal your joy! What you are doing there is so awesome, but you should slow down and take care of yourself too. You'll both be better off!

Thanks :) I really did just need to vent before I exploded... It sucks that she's not getting the 'dorm experience' but at least she's here. Right now I'm gonna rush and eat lunch....

    AHHH

Yeah, this diet can be a big pain in the a$$. I hope your sis is having fun. Try to have some fun, too.

Yes, yes it can. But CC and the questions are the worse

I think some of the adults are starting to think I have an eating disorder because they never see me eat.

Thank God this only goes till Wed.

  5. So I'm at Summer Bible camp with my little sister right? (She has medical needs and needs a family member with her to take care of them) And I had to pack my own food. I'm ok with that. I don't wanna eat anything cooked in a kitchen full of wheat by teens. But I hate that I have to take away my sisters time playing to rush back to my room (Not staying in the dorms) and cook some food and wolf it down (burning my tongue in the process) and hurry back to the lessons/games/w.e with everyone else.

    I hate this.

I hate being gluten-free in the moment....

    That is all

  6. Dude, I never received an allowance of any kind growing up. If I wanted something really bad I could work for it, and my parents would pay me accordingly. But chores were apart of life and everyone did some and we didn't get paid for them.

My Grandma made sure from a young age I knew the value of a dollar. And I knew that if I asked for something if it was something I needed I would get it, but if it was just a 'want' I might have to wait.

Currently I do get a book allowance (apx. 30$ a month) but I baby-sit whenever needed for it...

  7. SO glad I had a gluten-free "sick box" because it really came in handy!

Oh My Gosh!! That's such a good idea!! I need to make one! I mean it's not like I can pop into the local grocery and get some gluten-free crackers, I have to order online or drive 40 mins....

    Bril idea

  8. Chick-Fil-A fries are the BEST

I was iffy about BK fries since I'd never been to a BK and didn't get at least ONE onion ring in my fries (Before diagnoses) but I went to one and asked about a dedicated Fryer and it was awesome!! :) I missed those fries so much...

McD's fries tend to make me sick if I eat them more than once or twice in a week (found this out the hard way while traveling)

I was going to eat at a Wendy's once but the manager tried to convince my Dad that their whole menu was gluten-free so we decided not to even stop there again....

LOVE Applebee's Steaks and Baked Potatoes :)

    OH!

And Chipotle Open Original Shared Link

They are amazing! AND most are willing to open fresh cheese and meat for you just to be safe against CC and you can watch them make your food :D :D :D

  9. I don't know if i have celiac or not. i was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder recently and think it may be celiac. I have a wheat allergy. when i eat it i feel sick in my stomach, have gas, constipation, hives, and get really tired dand have brain fog. Is that celiac? I've been avoiding wheat for the most part for many years now. i eat it occasionally. now i have really bad headaches and am hallucinating. what do u think?

I'm not sure, I'm really new to this. I just know my symptoms were major D, gas, constipation, I was really tired, and I was always sick, I had an occasional rash, and suck...

  10. K8ling: Try putting him in the middle seat, and get some of those blinds for the windows (the suction cup ones) I only get motion sick if I have to sit in the very back of the van or if the light 'flashes' past me. (Or if I travel way early in the morning) Sometimes I have to turn around and sit in the floor of our van, and cool air helps. (Esp if the windows are open) Also try some gluten-free crackers I get way sick if I travel on an empty stomach...(also maybe some juice, Gatorade, etc. anything but water)

    Hope this helps....

  11. When I was VERY first diagnosed my life group at college (We are assigned a small group of girls if we are girls or boys if we are boys to get together with every week with an older student to lead devo's)

They all wanted to go there so I went along. I tried a fruit cup and less than half an hour later I was in the BR sick as a dog...I missed my last class of the day :P All my fault for eating at a bread place :P

I love getting grilled strips at Chick-Fil-A

    and a steak at Apple-Bee's

  12. OMG! Me too!!! I have clothes sizes from 4-8 in the closet. It's crazy. I am pretty consistent these days, but before going gluten-free I stayed so bloated I needed bigger pants. And not just bigger pants, but bigger belly pants...like the kind with the elastic banding for pregnant ladies. :o

I know!! It sucks!! I'm very small framed (only 5' 2") so it looked awful! And now whenever I get glutened I swell up the same way....I have my regular pants and my 'glutened' pants

  13. Well, you can always agree on where to eat! :P

Really, you can help each other and support each other. I wish I had someone near by that I could do this with.

Well actually my best friend lives in PA while I live in KS so we haven't ever actually met :P

This is gonna be really hard for her because her family is not supportive at all
