  1. It made me smile widely this morning to see so many well wishes and concern about my unfortunate day yesterday! Wow. It is awesome that we have each others' backs! Thank you.
  2. It WAS scary. On the way to the hospital my husband and I were trying to talk about "normal" things to be calm. It really helped. Thankfully my BP was perfect. My first mammogram 1.5 years ago was not painful whatsoever. This one was very painful as it was not a scanning mammogram but a diagnostic one which requires even more squishing! I also had...
  3. I'm ok. This morning I awoke to intense pressure on my chest radiating into my shoulder blades. It felt as though someone were sitting on my chest, making it tricky to breathe well. So, this morning I was poked and prodded. Thankfully the ER doc I saw was thorough. He said it was not a heart attack but muscle tightness - could be my costochondritis acting...
  4. Spent the morning in the ER (blech - thought I was having a heart attack) so my dinner plans are now on hold for tomorrow's dinner. So, we just had gnocchi (easy to whip up quickly) with a fresh tomato sauce. And some of my garlic cucumber dills.
  5. And just think - we live many hours north of Montana. At least you got a good taste of the cold! We used to have to milk cows in pitch blackness before school at -45F. The coldest temperature I have ever been in was -52F with windchill of -65F. And we STILL had to go to work as normal!
  6. The first 20 times shoveling are ok but when it goes and on and on and on for at least six months it becomes rather tedious, especially when we have nowhere left to pile the snow (shoveling onto 5 foot tall piles really isn't that much fun). At least we have a snowblower, though. And I may as well take advantage of my herniated discs now and then and not...
  7. Maybe she will be so busy shoveling she won't notice the kitchen activity. More food for us! We have just enough stairs to keep the boys busy running to and from the downstairs deep freezers, showing off their brawn. May I request one intellectual boy at least for intelligent conversation? Wait a minute - where is my husband in all this??
  8. Gladly. But only for a few days because I don't do well with heat! Before I commit, what kind of temps are we talking about?
  9. This is too good! I'll see what I can do...
  10. Can they ever! I mean, I have no idea...
  11. We will be shoveling yet again tomorrow. The snow ploughs are on our street this very minute, actually. Usually they wait until about January until we have a lot of snow built up but this year the snow came early - five weeks ago - and it has stayed. This will be the longest winter ever! Maybe the snow plough guys are really cabana boys in disguise!
  12. If you come here, just remember that our summers are about 20 minutes long. Or are you talking about our "dream" location? Because if that is so, we do need a pool and all that goes with it! ETA: What on earth happened to my responses? Weird.
  13. An observer, eh? Not actual butchery? It may sound morbid but I actually enjoy butchery - not slaughter itself (did that as a kid with chickens, etc. on the farm) but the anatomy/cuts of animals/birds intrigue me. I'm pretty good at breaking down a chicken and knowing what cuts go best with what cooking method and the internal temperatures. People whom...
  14. Irish, maybe we should force her to do the butchering and resulting clean-up duties. Cabana boy indeed...
  15. Too funny! You're in. My seams are already splitting. Man, I was such a good girl but lately I've been baking up some fattening things. Each time I walk by them they practically leap into my mouth so I can't help it!
  16. Weird - your description of the squash must have sounded great for you to make it. Sometimes food combinations just don't work!
  17. Fresh local plump Italian sausages with sweet and sticky glaze Red wine braised lentils with...ready for it?...bacon! "Melted" leeks (braised in ghee and white wine) I am also making boule bread this morning. It will be great with my homemade raspberry jam.
  18. You'll have to come over with the others as long as you are fit to do some physical work (i.e. shoveling all this snow!). Then I'll cook up something spectacular for your efforts! BTW, one of our goals here is to inspire one another - so, we can inspire each other with what we can cook though we have restrictions. Just goes to show we can eat as...
  19. Sweet and Spicy Peanut Vermicelli Noodles Steamed Asparagus with Toasted Pine Nut Browned Butter
  20. Greek this evening: - Avgolemongo Soup - Garlic, Rosemary and Lemon Lamb Chops (seared, then finished in oven to medium) - Lemon Oregano Roasted Potatoes - Greek Salad (the real thing - no lettuce in sight!) No bacon...sigh...
  21. That bread is good, isn't it? It and the new Kinnickinnik soft breads are my favourite commercial breads. Worthy of sandwiches and larger than a dime!
  22. ...even when it hits -26C which is in the forecast in a few days. BLECH! But we have our special ways of keeping nice and toasty.
  23. ...and I am going to cook me some bacon...
  24. What's it called where you live, IH?
  25. Leave it to you to notice!
