  2. Those darned mushrooms are addictive they are so good. Maybe I should sautee some bacon first, candy it and sprinkle on top. Mmmmm.... Thanks for the welcome "home"! Am happy to be cooking lots again, though I did that while on vacation, too. A day without cooking is incomplete.
  3. No bacon here tonight, darn it! But I made some superb creamy chicken and rice soup. Will also be making sauteed mushrooms with sherry glaze. And some more cornbread from last night.
  4. Sauterne wine and cooking wine are both dreadful in cooking. I did an experiment with both and the outcomes were very grim indeed. The only wine one should use is a wine you can easily drink - not the most expensive by any stretch. Any $10 would do. When cooking with wine, you want it to enhance the flavour of what you are cooking - not mask or ruin it...
  5. Just got back from our wonderful trip. The food was amazing as always. Tonight I am having a big ol' helping of chili I made a few days ago. The cornbread I made will go very well with it - it contains corn, ham, scallions... So will the roasted cumin and lime sweet potato fries.
  6. Our final clean-out-the-fridge meal before we leave for Paris tomorrow!! So, we had a conglomeration of things including: - green rice (rice infused with herbed roasted poblanos) - celeriac braised in white wine with shallots - grilled wild boar sausage - steamed broccoli - zebra tomatoes from the garden Seems like a green theme going on... Have...
  7. Getting ready to go on a month-long vacation to Europe so are cleaning out the fridge. We are simply having a bacon and potato cake or truffade (many layers of very thinly-sliced potatoes and bacon pressed into a cake). And raw cucumber from a friend's garden.

  11. Tonight we are having leftover jambalaya from last night which was FANTASTIC. Sure, there are over 30 ingredients in the recipe but that is how I love it. The more ingredients and the more techniques involved the better. Anyway, we will be having braised celeriac as well.
  12. I'm not making them dairy free - that would be very, very tricky. Actually, nearly impossible. I'm making them for my husband - his birthday dessert pick. If I take Lactaid I may be able to have a few spoons of it, too, but we'll see.

  22. I love that you write like you speak, conversationally. It's cute. But the resenting feeling like a girl bit sure isn't cute. I, too, am dealing with the same resentment and am cranky about it. Downright cantankerous. This morning I warned my husband NOT to bug me. At all. Not today or tomorrow. At least. You just never know what I might do!...
