  1. Those are GORGEOUS! They look so perfect and plump. What dishes and condiments do you serve them with?
  2. Capers are pretty common at our house and at yours, too, I bet. I just adore the brininess they add to millions of things! It certainly is not easy doing this away from home. It takes a lot of planning. I did it often last summer as well but brought far more of my stuff here. This time I cooked as much as possible in advance to simply re-heat. The heatwave...

So, I'm having: - potato salad (darn it - forgot my capers at home!!) - baby back ribs with a smoked ancho barbecue sauce I made a few days ago - homemade baked beans (again)

We are now having deviled eggs with brandy and sherried garlic mushrooms instead of the leeks. Cleaning out...
  9. All you do is add freshly-squeezed lemon juice into the water along with some zest. I usually throw in a bay leaf or two. And you can infuse rice with keffir lime leaves - even better! Brilliant. I've also done this with orange juice/zest. Cooking your rice in carrot juice and fresh herbs is also very good. Same with tomato juice.
  10. They most definitely are crispier with cornstarch - no comparison. Foie gras IS liver. Pure duck or goose liver that is lightly sauteed and often served with a fruit compote or marmalade. My last foie gras was in Croatia in May and it was served with a peach compote. Delicious!
  11. Count me in the Chicken Liver Lover's Club (CLLC). LOVE 'em, especially in pate. I also love foie gras.
  12. I've been away from home for several days (dog/housesitting) so have not been cooking. Instead, I did all the cooking before coming out. Very simple tonight: Buffalo Pulled Chicken Lemon-infused Rice Broccoli Slaw Strawberries Can't wait to do serious cooking at home in a few days! Though I do LOVE it out here in the country...

  17. You already have beets and cabbage from your own garden? We are only just starting to get a few tiny radishes coming. Man, sometimes I really dislike our short summers. So glad you liked the gastrique! Now you can make it with anything and have it with anything. And it sounds fancy and looks fancy but is simple. Your dinners sound very good. Korean...

  21. There was extra fresh homemade pasta from last night so I am making a truffle cream sauce for it. We brought the preserved truffles back with us from Croatia. They are heavenly! Braised celery in white wine. Strawberry limeade.
  22. It was AMAZING! Fresh pasta was incredible. And the sauce? Oh, man. Your meal was healthier than mine, though!
  23. I am making homemade pasta today. Fettucine, in fact. I am also making a large batch of garlic and white wine sauce (so I can freeze some for hot days this summer). We will be having Sauteed Mushrooms with Sherry, Thyme and Garlic as well. Lemon Blueberry Pudding for dessert (low fat and low calorie).
