  1. Today I made garlic cheese bread to go with: - burrata cheese - herbed dipping oil I made earlier - prosciutto - tomatoes Chewy brownies for dessert.
  2. That is AWESOME! I'm so glad you did it with lobster. Once you've had fabulous macaroni and cheese there is no way you'd want to go back to packaged stuff. Mushrooms are a great idea - I have not done that. When cooking my goal is to make every single dish taste as good as it possibly can. I inject everything with as much flavour as I can. I do...
  3. Tonight is Korean. I am making: Korean Chicken Tacos Daikon, Jicama and Cucumber Salt and Sugar Pickles Korean Scallion Pancakes with homemade nuoc cham
  4. Pavlova has been one of my favourites since I was a child. You can make individual pavlovas, too. I like to fill them with lemon curd, vanilla bean buttercream and stack high with lots of fruit. Blackberries and blueberries have an afinity with lemon. I suddenly have a craving!
  5. I've been breaking down chicken today. Roasting bones for stock and tonight am making: Parmesan Chicken Roasted Butternut Squash Risotto Nigel Slater's Braised Peas Black plums for dessert
  6. How wonderful! My husband used to hunt but he hasn't for awhile. We don't have pheasant here (but I get it when I see it on menus elsewhere) and LOVE it. We have a resident pheasant we call Phil at our Croatia house, though. He is gorgeous.
  7. That is another classic combination. Has anyone else tried bacon popcorn? Salted caramel bacon ice cream? Wonderful. Or how about candied bacon? All you do is brush bacon with maple syrup and roast in the oven until crispy.
  8. Sylvia, I LOVE bacon jam. It is superb.
  9. I think he is actually quite a good shot on the wild boar hunting episode he mentioned shooting rabbits. When I was 12 I took Firearm safety and was a very good shot at clay pigeons, etc. However, I have not shot anything for food and as I grow older, I do not think I could actually do it. My heart is just too tender.
  10. I have not seen that episode - how could I have missed it??!! All that yumminess on polenta? Oh, I am swooning. Perhaps I'll have to take up hunting!
  11. That sounds great! I love goose. And duck. And pheasant. And quail...
  12. Grilled Garlic Rosemary Lamb Chops with Dijon Crust Celeriac and Potato Dauphinoise Honeyed Roast Broccoli with Toasted Pine Nuts Roast Strawberries
  13. Finnish Meatballs with Partridge Berry Sauce Bay-Infused Jasmine Rice Sauteed Swiss Chard with Shallots and Garlic Strawberries with aged balsamic
  14. Oh, I'm so glad. That would have been such a shame. The smoked duck sounds divine. Duck is one of my all-time favourite things to eat. EVER. If I see it on a menu I usually order it. That or the lamb or venison or pheasant. The duck fat is the best for frying and I love the crispy skin. Mmmmmm.
  15. Buffalo Chicken Wings with Bleu Cheese Dip Baked Spicy Onion Rings Wine-Braised Leeks
  16. Honey Garlic Chicken Wings - they were very ooey gooey! Baked potatoes with chives Lots of raw veg with dill dip
  17. I had an intense craving for shrimp so I simply did a sweet and sour shrimp stir fry with carrots, broccoli and daikon served over vermicelli noodles.
  18. How do these people (and I use the term loosely) sleep at night and live with themselves? Seriously. Do they teach arrogance and cruelty in U.S. med schools? This pathetic story reminds me yet again how fortunate I am to have the doctor I have. Good listener, empathetic, compassionate and humble. Man, I really feel for you. If a doctor told me...
  19. Ham with Spicy Cider Glaze Potato Gratin Roasted Leeks with Lemon Dijon Caper Sauce Something with pears - unsure of what yet. Perhaps poached in white wine and vanilla bean.
  20. That combo really makes sense to me. It is very balanced - you want every dish you make to be balanced. Sounds delicious! Next time I am making my mac and cheese with pureed carrot to replace some of the cheese sauce.
  21. I did not make it with lobster this time - that is the ultimate. This is not for the faint of heart or those who are worrying about calories at this moment. (There's always tomorrow! ) Caramelize 2 onions until like candy (about 30 minutes). Make bechamel*. Heat the milk and cream and add half an onion with a couple of cloves stuck in...
  22. Cold isn't easy to take, is it? I think we put up with it because we have to and we are used to it. Thankfully we do have lovely albeit short summers. Can't wait to move to Croatia!!! Our Mac and Cheese tonight is not any ordinary Mac and Cheese - it will be unctuous and sublime. You know I couldn't just make a normal recipe...
  23. It is still below 0 and very windy so I am making Creamy Five Cheese Macaroni and Cheese. We will have broccoli of some sort to go with it.
