  2. As we have roast chicken leftovers, I am simply making Chicken a la King on toast with oven-roasted rosemary potatoes. Will be at my own house tomorrow so will be doing some real cooking! Can't wait. I MISS MY KITCHEN!!!

  4. Still housesitting so am restricted by what I can do here. I miss cooking so badly! But I love it here.   5. We are dog/housesitting in the country so I am restricted with the ingredients I brought along. Simply this: James Beard Old Fashioned Meatloaf with a Blueberry Ketchup I will be making Hasselback Potatoes with Garlic, Thyme and Bay Leaves Roasted Cauliflower with Mustard Seeds and Cumin Might throw something together for dessert. If not, fruit it...
  6. Ummmm...not so much to pluck. Hey - besides popsicles I could drizzle some maple syrup over some snow! Man, I always seem to be thinking of food.
  7. There definitely is nothing wrong with Breakfast Suppers!! You are about 90 degrees warmer than us right now. But we are having an exceptionally mild winter - normally it would be about -32F but we are lucky.
  8. We are having warm, cozy comfort food tonight: Pork Loin Braised in Milk Roasted Garlic Mashed Potatoes with Frizzled Shallots and Mustard Seeds Steamed Broccoli Chocolate Crepes with Bourbon Cream and Blueberries
  9. How great to have a trustworthy place near you! We have some very good places, too, but they are all a three-hour drive away. Still worth it, though, for a treat.

  11. That is awesome! Communal grilling is a lot of fun. Both mine and my husband's family are so understanding like yours - it makes a tremendous difference to have all that support.
  12. The house is filled with wonderful smells. I am making: Bang Bang Chicken (served over vegetables) Nuoc Cham Sharp and Sweet Red Peppers with Pink Peppercorns and Cardamom Pink Peppercorn and Cardamom Meringues with Blackberries and White Chocolate Should be fabulous!

  14. I only get the authentic Sri Lankan stuff - there is a huge difference in flavour. Regular ground cinnamon? Meh. The real thing? WOW!
  15. I like to purchase whole cinnamon quills and grind/grate myself. Same with nutmeg and tons of others. Better flavour, anyway. Not in bulk, of course.
  16. Tonight is (mostly) Italian: fresh homemade pasta (fettucine) - it is absolutely delicious and reheats beautifully with no clumping slightly spicy marinara sauce pistachio pesto fabulous focaccia bread And not Italian - blackberry trifle with meyer lemon curd
  17. I actually DID think of you while I was making it as I know you can no longer have it! The reason I made it today yet again is because my husband loves taking it to work for lunches. He loves creamy soups, especially in winter.
  18. Tonight I just made Vichyssoise Soup Tomorrow: Pulled Pork with my BBQ Rub and Homemade BBQ Sauce Roasted Carrot and Turnip Asiago Souffle Seared Rabe with Balsamic Syrup and Toasted Pecans Chewy Chocolate Chunk Cookies (gluten free but you would NEVER know it)
  19. We are having: Baby Back Ribs with my rub and homemade sweet spicy BBQ sauce Risotto Milanese (saffron) Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Caramelized Shallots and Toasted Hazelnuts

My husband is away tonight so I am making: gnocchi with sundried tomato and basil pesto (using toasted walnuts instead of pine nuts) mixed salad with toasted hazelnuts, shaved asparagus, julienned pears, Meyer lemon vinaigrette strawberries with a few drops of Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale de Modena
  21. I made some delicious roasted corn chowder, roasted broccoli with sesame oil and nigella seeds and Bananas Foster for dessert.
  22. A lot of infusing goes on at our house! Lots of oils. I also like infusing honey with ground dried chipotle and other delicious things. You're right - it is a very simple way to add WOW to things.

  24. Sounds like you had a wonderful leftovers night! The fact that we can still have good homemade pizza is enough to make me tear up. Your pizza toppings combo sounds fantastic.
  25. You're funny. I've never tried a gluten-free hotdog. Can you describe it? I haven't had a gluten hotdog for years, either. We don't do them well in our area. We do smokies well but not hotdogs. You've given me an idea for dinner tomorrow - gluten-free bratwurst sausage with roasted purple grapes (too bad we don't have Concord). The grapes caramelize...
