Everything posted by love2travel

  1. From scratch as always - Mexican Street Tacos with Chimichurri and Potato Salad.
  2. Ditto on the above. My tummy is vastly improved so we are having carnitas et. al.
  3. I made sublime chipotle and cascabel orange carnitas with corn tortillas. I have a thing for pork! Alas...tummy troubles prevented me from enjoying them tonight but at least my husband did...perhaps tomorrow.
  4. Thanks! I've had a somewhat rough two weeks - severe D, vomiting, cramps, pain. Surprisingly enough I have not lost a single pound. My pain threshhold is high but I am not liking this. ER doctor questioned me about travels. However, with celiac disease, I have no idea whether this is my first glutening or what? I have not eaten out for ages and our...
  5. Chicken Liver Pate with Cloudberry Gelee Homemade gluten-free bun with butter and Hawaiian sea salt Venison Osso Bucco with Applewood Smoked Cheddar and Pancetta Polenta Roasted Asparagus Absolutely amazing.
  6. Plain boiled white rice for me, some lovely homemade vichyssoise soup I made the other day for my husband. I have been quite ill lately so am keeping it bland and simple until whatever this is passes.
  7. I do have Chex for breakfast sometimes!
  8. Pretty darned simple tonight: Homemade Buckwheat Pasta with Pumpkinseed Pesto and Pecorino Greens with Grapefruit Tarragon Vinaigrette Brandied Deviled Eggs Burnt Caramel Mousse
  9. Traditional pesto contains extra virgin olive oil, a touch of coarse salt, garlic, basil, pinenuts and Parmesan BUT you can make it without the cheese. I make many versions including sundried tomato, kale, arugula, mint, sage, rosemary...you can also substitute other nuts such as toasted walnuts for the pine nuts. I've taught an entire cooking class on...
  10. I prefer grainy, too. Many recipes actually recommend sitting in the pantry for a couple of months to mellow prior to putting it in the fridge but some don't. This is one of my favourites - I keep it nice and chunky. http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/golden-yellow-mustard And others... http://www.food.com/recipe/homemade-mustard-37981 http://www...
  11. I make quite a large variety of flavours - will look some up and post. The one you describe is pretty typical but can be quite sharp. Did you allow it to sit for the flavours to mellow a bit? Do you like grainy mustards or smooth?
  12. Change of plans. We WERE going to have something fabulous but it is too hot to sear/roast duck breast. So, we're grilling burgers to go with toasted Udi's buns. We'll have homemade mustard, ketchup, garlic aioli and nectarine caramelized onion jam I made last year to go with them. Mustard coleslaw. Watermelon granita again!
  13. Sure! Note that I double the amount of lime juice (I love tart flavours) OR use some grapefruit juice and also add a few fresh mint or basil leaves to the simple syrup while it is cooking). http://homecooking.about.com/od/dessertrecipes/r/bldes97.htm I just love granitas. They are so terribly easy to make! Strawberry is one of my favourites.
  14. Pork Stuffed Red Peppers Herb Risotto Creamy Coleslaw Watermelon Granita Tomorrow promises to be more exciting!
  15. Thanks for your advice. However, I would have a very hard time eating something that has been CC'd deliberately. We eat such an incredibly varied diet as well with a lot of exotic ingredients (some recipes I like to make contain 30+ ingredients) so it would be tough to pinpoint. I have switched to a gluten-free toothpaste and ensure my supplements and...
  16. I know what you mean! I find it very hard not to have any idea whether I have been glutened or not. There is absolutely nothing I can trace to food because I nearly always feel consistently the same. Sure, I am in constant pain from FMS and herniated discs and chronic insomnia due to so much pain but I really wish I knew if I accidentally ingested gluten...
  17. My husband get goat whenever we find it! Yum. The only times I do not care about food is when I am sick. It takes a lot for me not to think about food!
  18. Leftover spicy rubbed pork baby back ribs with homemade apple butter sauce. With our leftover black garlic wild mushroom risotto I am making arancini. Grilled butternut squash with vanilla bean vinaigrette and goat cheese.
  19. I agree. No treat is worth the possibility of inviting trouble. When I last spoke with the company they told me that none of the Reese's peanut butter cups could be guaranteed to be gluten-free (and she admitted that the lines are not cleaned as well as they should be!). That was enough for me. I handed them over to my husband.
  20. Pork Baby Back Ribs with Homemade Rub and Memphis BBQ Sauce Truffled Potatoes Pave with Caramelized Onion Jam Dark Chocolate Mousse and Spicy Shrimp Spoons (yes, you read that right - it is a remarkable combination) Japanese Cucumber Salad Strawberry Fool Rosemary Mint Lemonade Dinner was quite good.
  21. Please refresh my memory - are you are moving from a townhouse to a house? Will you have room for a grill outside? Oh, yes. I had forgotten about dairy/soy free in ambrosia. I know what you mean about so many ideas rolling around in your mind! Hawaiian chicken sounds delicious, too. When I cook I also plan ahead for leftovers to send with my husband...
  22. Mmmmm...pineapple and mandarin oranges spell out ambrosia (if you like coconut, etc.). When do you move again?
  23. We're having company this weekend so tonight is pretty basic because our company doesn't "get" gourmet food! Pulled Pork Browned Butter Mashed Potatoes with Crispy Shallots Jicama Slaw Shaved Asparagus Salad with Peppered Pecans, Pears, Shaved Parmesan and Vanilla Bean Vinaigrette Strawberry Fool
  24. Leftovers from last night - goat stew and rice but this time with a salad of arugula, mustard greens, endive, baby beet leaves; grilled pears; toasted pecans and fresh sheep's cheese with a grapefruit tarragon vinaigrette.
  25. Oh, shoot. I'm SO embarassed you found me out!
