  1. Turn your soup into chicken and dumplings!
  2. I am making Chicken and Dumpings! I adore puffy dumplings. Apple cider slaw. Roasted plums with ginger and lemongrass.
  3. Not much time to cook anything extravagant tonight so I made spicy roasted butternut squash, carrot and poblano soup with a drizzle of pumpkinseed oil. That's it!
  4. ....and it even has your initial on it!!
  5. It tastes precisely like roasting chestnuts. Thankfully the gelato is scrumptious in Croatia as well. Oh, how did hazelnut not end up on my list? Yum!!
  6. You are brill. Speaking of gelato...what is your favourite flavour? I have been to Italy lots 'n lots and my faves include grapefruit, limone, meringue, wild strawberry...anything tart and/or fruity. Also love pistachio and chestnut.
  7. Please help me figure out what you are talking about. I don't get it. Wink, wink.
  8. Oh, you mean THAT. And here I thought it was summat else.
  9. Whatever do you mean??? Tee hee...
  10. I forget how to spell certain things so am afraid I cannot list them at this time. You deserve that champagne! Happy everything! And have fun with some this and some that. The oven method is the best way methinks. It is amazing what can be done in the kitchen! Hee hee... Snow is nauseating. Especially with the ice, broken branches, etc. ...
  11. You should see the piles of snow! We are in the middle of a serious blizzard. I can hardly see across the street it is blowing so hard. When I took our dog for our morning walk the snow went over my knee-high boots. The driving snow really hurts. Have I ever mentioned I DESPISE our winters? I really, really do. We were going to have bangers and...
  12. My mistake. I had ciabatta on the brain but did indeed mean challah. Either one sounds delicious!! :-)
  13. Something simple tonight as we are bound to have tons of trick or treaters at the door... Proper Bangers (plump authentic Cumberland sausages), roasted in the oven Mash (whipped buttery potatoes) Onion gravy Steamed peas
  14. Thanks! You know, I enjoy your refreshing sense of humour in your responses. No pumpkins or anything here, either. Not sure what my excuse is. Sheer laziness perhaps??
  15. Tonight I am making spicy shrimp (lightly poached first) with creamy Cheddar grits. Unsure of the side but perhaps caramelized butternut squash or a slaw with apple cider vinaigrette. Actually, methinks wilted greens with bacon is a better idea.
  16. Yes!! How much...uh...phlegm can one person have???! One more winter is right. YAY!! Along the Croatian coast it can snow a bit but some years they do not even get a hard frost. Their idea of "winter" is hilarious.
  17. I bet you don't! A whole lot of ick but it is to get up to 2 in a few days.
  18. Oh, how I wish I could! I see your temps have "dipped" down a ton! :-P
  19. Thanks! Safe but not pleased. It literally hurts to be practically wrenched from our home. Remember how I said I was sick? Turned out to be a big, fat and snotty cold. Still have it, actually, but am much better. Now I have a lot of threads to catch up on...
  20. We are back from our glorious vacation. Actually, not really vacation as we were busy finalizing kitchen plans, preparing stuff for residency and the BIG move in spring but it was just so darned much fun in Croatia!!! Sigh...it is snowing and -10C but -22 with the winchill. Perfect weather for cooking and baking roast banana bread. We are having: ...
  21. Flying to Venice then driving to our house in Croatia - leaving Monday and will be away 26 days. YAY! Have not been here much lately as I have been busy. Yesterday I made lovely beef stew to use up some of our carrots, potatoes, peas, shrooms, etc. Nice to have as we are having some chilly temps (in the minus range). Have an awesome October, All...
  22. Back in town for the day. Out back house/dogsitting tonight til Wednesday then packing then going to Croatia! WHEW! And in between times must do something with my billions of tomatoes and apples and bags full of herbs. We are having breakfast for dinner, too... Creamy cheddar grits with bacon and poached eggs on top. Can you not just imagine how...
  23. Traditional meatloaf (using panade for moisture) with picante glaze Buttery mashed potatoes Steamed green beans with frizzled shallots
  24. Spaghetti squash needs to be roasted. Just split in half, toss in some butter and sage leaves and season. Or use marinara or simply season and sprinkle with a good cheese such as Parmesan, manchego, Romano...
