Glad the side effects are gone. You will be a light weight tonight after work, won't you? I'll probably only have one glass of wine (if any). The party is just up the block so we'll obviously walk. Must have CC'd myself because today I had THE most annoying Celiac symptom. Took Immodium (TMI?). I don't want to let that stop me from going as we have only met 2 neighbors in our development since we moved here. One has 7 kids.
Sorry you have to work tonight. I used to work in the television industry (videotape editor at CBS) and I worked pretty much every holiday. Of course that didn't stop us from partying.
Wishing you a healthy and happy 2011. May we all get better!!!!!
Loey
I just drank 2 ciders and a glass of champagne at the party after work , I like how 1 - 2 drinks makes me feel a bit drunk lol. Party was good fun though I hope the CC symptoms are better and hope you had a good time at the party . 7 kids that's a lot lol.
I was quite happy about going to work , i'm a professional Magician It was really nice to work again, I had a great time entertaining guests at my local italian restaurant. That sounds like a cool job working for tv
Thanks I also hope you have a great and healthy 2011

im sorry you're hitting a rough patch- i can relate in some way.... i actually feel quite fine now with Celiac and eating gluten free and with whatever reactions people have.
However-> i am starting to hit a rough patch because of all the ADDITIONAL food intolerances... now THAT is getting real old .. it would be super fantastic if removing gluten would fix all my problems... i am having a tough time feeling crampy from other things (like fructose/fructans, excess dairy, excess coffee/tea, soy, corn, legumes) OY VEY
and its hard to deal with while at work, or wanting to be social... or hearing from coworkers- "wow, can u eat anything? it sucks to be u"....
hope you feel better soon!!!
Sorry about the additional food intolerances they are very annoying That must be hard to hear comments like that Some people laugh at why I have to avoid Gluten and extra foods , it feels like it's a funny joke to everyone except me :S Them kinda of people are so annoying and say such stupid things. Now when they say something stupid I get angry in my head and it makes it worse oh well never mind , maybe 1 day there will be a cure for celiac disease and other food intolerances

Whenever I'm feeling upset because of things I can't have I start listing all the yummy thing I CAN have. Then I go and get one of them as a treat ASAP. It doesn't do much for my waistline, but I don't feel deprived at least. Next time you go to a party take a gluten free app or dessert with you to share. Make sure you get yours out first (or make your own plate in advance) and be sure to gush about how delicious it is.
Thanks for the ideas

I had a lovely Christmas and then got a bug. I spent a few days in bed and am starting to feel better. We're going to a New Year's Eve Party tomorrow. We just moved to a new state so it will be nice to meet our neighbors. I had a nice non gluten-free cookie platter made up (I won't even carry it, DH can) and will bring a bag of veggies to munch on during the party. How was your holiday? Are you feeling better? I've decided that 2011 is the year that we're all going to start feeling better!!!!!
Sending Holiday Hugs,
Loey
P.S. Thank you about your kind wishes!!!
Glad you had a nice christmas Sorry about the bug but glad you are starting to feel better. Cool the party sounds great have fun I have to work new years eve 1st time I have worked since May lol. Christmas was good thanks The Endoscopy side effects have all gone so feeling a better from that . Although there is 1 cool side effect left , since having the Endoscopy I have noticed it only seems to take 1 drink for me to get drunk which is great lol. That will be great if everyone starts to feel better in 2011
Happy New Year

Ouch, sorry about that. How about this then: when I get too "Woe is me," my mother steps in and says, "Be glad you don't have cancer."
I've spent plenty of time bemoaning being Celiac and I'm only a few months in but I do try to force myself to get a little perspective and be glad that my problems are solved my diet and not much worse treatments.
But if I do need to whine and rant, I'll come here first.
I will try that instead . I have always tried to think I could have something a lot worse but than I always think there are a lot of people who don't have any health problems so it's more frustrating lol. My mum said I was sounding like im jealous of non Celiac's if it sounds that way I don't feel jealous I just feel annoyed , oh well at least I am more unique having celiac disease
By the way I think my first post wasn't very well written i'm not a very good at writing things lol. I am more annoyed and frustrated at the health problems I have got due to being Celiac rather than not being able to eat everything , and I think having celiac disease can be annoying enough itself but having other health problems connected is what is more annoying . If that makes sense.
I'm glad the diet has solved your problems Yeh there could be a lot worse treatments.
It seems like the best place to come whine and rant
-
Ranting pity parties are always allowed here, I think.
Whenever I start feeling sorry for myself, I look around here at how limited some of my fellow Celiacs are and feel glad that I only have to eliminate gluten and not a laundry list of common foods.
I'm glad the ranting parties are allowed
That's a good idea it could be worse , I also have had to eliminate some other foods it's annoying , some of the starters the other day were gluten-free but had other foods in I have to avoid at the moment Nevermind lol
-
Not stupid! A bit whiny maybe? . But that's Ok, if you google " Celiac vent fest". Or " gluten intolerance whine" It refers you here.
I'm amazed you would eat anything made at someone else's house. I would be afraid that they stirred the gluten-free food with the spoon from that gluttony starter.
I went to Hub's boss's Xmas party. Wine was great! Ate at PF Changs first, with dessert. Spent a lot of time sitting with their old dog, away from the snacks and desserts. Told the boss I prefer dogs to people. Fortunately, he laughed & said he usually did to.
We went to my parents friends for dinner ( my mum also has celiac disease ) they understand that we are not allowed any gluten and are really careful when cooking . They even said when cooking the meal the accidentally put a stock cube in which was not gluten free , they had to start again and re cook the whole dinner
Cool that's a good idea staying away from the food with the dog

Lately I have been feeling really annoyed and angry because of being Celiac. I been feeling like this on and off for a while now The last few days we had people over or went round a friends house for dinner , and yesterday was so frustrating for me lol. Everyone at the table was eating the starter ( which wasn't gluten-free ) in front of me at the table and saying how nice it was etc this also happened the day before. I have been Celiac since 2003 and this sort of thing never really bothered me before but recently it's making really angry. I feel really unlucky being Celiac and i'm starting to dislike people because they eat whatever they want and it just annoys me
I also feel angry about how celiac disease has messed up my career and other similar things . This may sound stupid but the people I or my family know , well they know I have back and stomach problems and celiac disease etc yet they always ask me stupid questions that they know will annoy me and some think i'm making health problems up ( like I could make celiac disease etc up :S ) . I just feel very unlucky and angry at the moment that I have celiac disease and other health problems.
Anyway sorry for writing all this it probably sounds really stupid
-
Sorry your stomach bothered you. I also think it's a shame how difficult it is to get disability with this disease. I want to go back to the classroom and teach more than I can say but there's no way I can handle it (special ed) until I'm well.
Let me know how the test results are and have a wonderful gluten-free holiday. I bought all of our meal ingredients today for our first gluten-free Xmas. Now if only our 19 year old would stop being a scrooge (he's snarky) I'd be happy.
Loey
Hi Loey ,
I hope you had a great gluten free christmas , hopefully you can get disability or get back to teaching soon
-
I feel sorry for both of you
hal2me I feel angry reading your post, it's really bad your MIL thinks you are rude because you can't eat the food. It's ridiculous how bad some people can be For christmas you should buy your in-laws a book about celiac disease
Happy Christmas

Just thought I'd add that I used mebeverine for a couple of years, it worked amazingly well in stopping the horrible spasming I used to get throughout the digestive tract. Happily I haven't needed it for months since I have been on an elimination diet, but it was the one thing that really helped. There were days I was in so much pain for days that I was close to going to hospital, and once I had that medication I never had sustained pain that bad again. My magic combination was to take buscopan (hyoscine butylbromide)to fix stomach pain and gassiness and mebeverine for the spasming and lower pain. Hope it helps, and your stupid dr should have no issues prescribing that to you as it is an antispasmodic, not a pain drug.
Mebeverine is really great How often did you take it ? My doctor says take it when needed , but I'm thinking of taking it 3 times a day everyone day for a few months. Buscopan also sounds like a good medicine
-
Good question. Maybe you could send them a an email and ask their reason.
I will do that If the company can put Gluten Free on there website than they can put Gluten Free on the packet . It's time for a change
-
Thanks for the link to the medication I'll bring t with me to the appointment.
Loey
Your welcome , hopefully the medicine can help you
-
I'm glad the sedation is almost out of your system. Just keep letting your body rest.
I don't mind taking meds. He thought I was looking for something in the oxycontin family. I currently take donnatal but it doesn't help with the IBS. I'll mention your med to the new doctor. I can't wait to see him but first I had to get a referral and now my appointment isn't until January 20th. I've gone since August being an 8 to a 10 on the pain scale so I can go a few more weeks. I'm a tough cookie. I picked my current (new) GI out of the phone book because I had to get my son genetically tested before he left for college. Thankfully he tested negative or it would have been another thing to blame mom for .
I hope you feel better and if you have any questions about your tests or the results feel free to PM me. As I think I mentioned I'm an avid researcher who is currently unemployed. I'm also a 99'er so I hope I can get on disability.
Sending holiday wishes,
Loey
I will keep resting
It's a shame the donnatal medicine doesn't work. Cool hopefully the medicine I mentioned will help I had really bad stomach pain tonight and 2 hours after taking the medicine my stomach calmed down a lot. Good luck at the january appointment Hopefully the next few weeks go quick . I have to see my doctor about my Endoscopy results in Feb. It's going to be funny as my doctor knows how much I dislike Endoscopy's ( for years after I was diagnosed with celiac disease my doctor wanted to do another Endoscopy but I refused lol ) and as another doctor arranged the test for me , I think my original doctor will be shocked I had another Endoscopy lol. Good job your son tested negative
Thanks again I also research a lot and i'm also unemployed , my dream is too find a cure for celiac disease Good luck with getting disability , I tried once before but the council people were useless. I know some people who have low income or who are too lazy to get a job and they get benefits easy , yet I have back problems , celiac disease , other stomach problems etc and get no help it's ridiculous lol.
Happy Christmas

I just had one and felt tired for only 24 hrs. You should feel more awake soon! You must be sensitive to it!
Cool I had one before and felt fine the same day . But this time it was different , I was very nervous and maybe the doctor gave me more sedation
-
I tried answering yesterday but my computer was weird. Now keep in mind I'm changing doctors because this one hasn't done anything to help me since i moved to a new state in August. My old GI in NJ wanted me to have a capsule endoscopy as soon as I moved and the new GI wouldn't order it. After being in intense pain since August I put my foot down. That's what showed the ulcer. Then he ordered an EGD and when I saw him in the office he told me about IBS. He's never given me any guideline, diet instructions (IBS has additional dietary restrictions). I know that we do most of the legwork but I feel he though I was just looking for pain meds (which I never asked for and don't take because I want to know what's triggering the pain). My husband's co-worker goes to the new GI I'm going to see and says he'll spend an hour or as long as you need talking to you and will try anything you find in addition to what they know to help you.
It took my husband's friend 2 years to really get the IBS in check so I figure with my combination of problems it might take me longer. I'm a fighter so I'm going to conquer this!
I hope you're feeling better and have gotten over the sedation. Feel free to PM me with any questions or just to vent. I'm a relative newbie but I'm an avid researcher.
Loey
No problem Sounds like your doctor is stupid I hate when the doctor tries to give you medicine and end the appointment. ( I take Mebeverine Open Original Shared Link I know you said you don't want med but this is suppose to be good for IBS I don't know if you have tried it but it seems to work for me 90 % of the time ) I'm sorry you have bad pain I hope the new doctor will help you figure out what is causing the pain Good luck and I really hope you can sort the problem out
I think the sedation has almost gone but I still feel a little out of it a few times of the day lol. Thanks

Thanks for all the replies.
Today I bought some Haribo sweets , even though I have had these sweets many times before ( but not for a few weeks ) I checked the ingredients and the Haribo still looked Gluten Free. But there was no " Gluten Free " on the packet. So I checked my Celiac book of what's Gluten Free and found out the Haribo was definitely Gluten Free Later I checked the Haribo website and it says Gluten Free.
Why can't they put this on the packet ? It's so annoying if they can put it's Gluten Free on there website why can't they put it on the packet ?

Recently I have been getting very annoyed at food companies . Why can't all food companies put Gluten Free or Not Gluten Free on their labels ? I mean it's very simple all it takes is 10 letters it's not difficult . Could you imagine how easy it would be to go shopping and find out if an item of food is Gluten Free or not in 1 second without having to read every single ingredient.
I am going to write a letter to some big food companies , and include videos or websites about Celiac Disease and ask them if it will be possible to start labelling more products with Gluten Free or not Gluten Free I mean they can write suitable for vegetarians so why can't they write Gluten Free on the labels ?????
Has anyone else written to food companies asking them to label more products ?

I find that now that I have Celiac (and an ulcer and IBS) I have less energy so when I have a procedure where i receive anesthesia it takes longer to shake it off. If your schedule allows for it just rest and let your body tell you when you're ready to be out and about. Hope the test results are OK.
Sending healing thoughts,
Loey
Sorry you are having problems with an ulcer and IBS By the way how did you find out you have IBS ? The reason i'm asking is because the last 2 stomach doctors I have seen have talked about IBS. 1 Doctor said I have IBS and the other Doctor said I could have it, are there tests avaliable or can it be seen by an Endoscopy ?
I have been resting a lot Thanks
-
I voted for : The gluten-free diet is relatively easy and I have been gluten free for more than three years
-
I didn't realize you were also hallucinating. Please be sure to bring that effect to the attention of your doctor. Whatever they gave you they need to be sure not to give it to you again. Glad your starting to feel better.
Thanks I will tell my doctor about the hallucinating and other effects when I get my results. The hallucinating was horrible, but they have stopped now
-
I know that many times they give you IV Benadryl when they do endoscopes because it helps make the anesthesia work better. If you are susceptible to benedryl's sleepy side-effects, that may make you drowsy, but I don't know how long that would last. I know about the IV stuff because it was at the endoscopy that I found out that I'm allergic to IV Benadryl. Yikes!
That was a bad time to find out you were allergic to IV Benadryl My tiredness has pretty much gone now and the hallucinating has also stopped today so hopefully the drugs have worn off
-
Congratulations Ravenwoodglass It's always great to hear success stories
-
I did have that happen with one endo. I didn't react well to the drug (it didn't work) they gave me and they had to give me a great deal of it. On the next endo I was given a different drug and didn't have the same effect. Do discuss this with your doctor especially if it left you with other effects.
Thanks for the advice I was really nervous before the test and the doctor said he would make sure I was asleep so maybe he gave me a stronger dose, I also had the throat spray ( which didn't go down to well lol ) maybe that could have affected things. That must have been horrible not reacting well to the drug I have a few side effects hopefully they will go soon.
