  1. I've decided to gut my dogs gluten too !! lol.. Hard as i try he still sneaks in kisses on my face, talk about the kiss of death !!! So i'm gonna put him on a wheat free dog food, just wondering what brand those of you that have cut out gluten from your pets food use? I have a picky eater and a big boy so if it is possible a little on the cheaper side ;)

I switched to gluten free dog food for my three babies last month. They are on Nature's Choice, which is new. We bought it at Petsmart. It's the salmon and sweet potato one. Funny thing is my one dog has had skin issues and licks his legs all the time. Since going gluten free, his skin has totally cleared up and the licking has stopped....gluten is the devil!

  2. Has anyone had problems with their vision? I have never noticed this before I was diagnosed, but since my diagnosis in feb 2006 my eyes have been doing weird things. Today, I went to my children's conferences at the high school. I went into the bathroom and when I was washing my hands, I couldn't focus on the mirror in front of me. It felt weird. I walked toward the door and it was only then that I realized that what I thought was the mirror was an opening in the wall. The mirror was really by the door several feet away. I had the same experience earlier in the week with a mirror. I felt like I had no depth perception. Isn't this weird?

One of my problems before going gluten free was my night vision getting really bad. Add rain to it and I couldn't drive with glasses on. My Mom was with me one night and she had to finish driving us home. Since going gluten free my eyes have improved a great deal. I don't even need glasses to drive at night now.

  3. Hello,

I use this skin care line and love it. I emailed them today and they did offer a gluten free list. I'm sad that a few things I use did contain wheat, have to change those now. Anyway, thought I'd share this incase anybody needed some good organic gluten-free skin care....you can find this line at many places. I order it from www.prettyskin4less.com They seem to have good prices and you can google for discount codes as well.

    Hello Kim,

Thank you for your call today. We receive quite a few inquiries regarding Gluten and Celiac Disease.

    I thought I

  4. I get rib pain also! Mine is on my right side. It lasts anywhere from 2-30 minutes. Seems to relate to be glutened now. We went out to eat and I tried to be careful...don't think the waiter did :( Anyway, got home and went to bed. I was woke up by really bad shooting pains and it was hard to take a deep breath. Felt sore the next day.

I think it's related to gluten for sure.

  5. Hello all,

I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to get my kitchen gluten-free. I think I'm getting cc'd. I have Calphalon hard anodized pans/pots. Most are scratched. Should I get just start over and buy new? How about cookie sheets, cutting boards etc....I threw out my plastic measuring cup last night and replaced it with glass. My mixing bowels are metal/stainless.

    Thanks!

  6. Hello,

I think the bacon got me last night. I read the label but didn't research it online to see if the celery salt or other natural flavors were gluten-free...let me tell you they aren't. It's the only thing I can think that could have done it, everything else I eat all the time. Major bloating, gas, loose bowels...all the fun stuff! Puffy eyes this morning, dark circles, and starving to death.....when's lunch?? BTW, it was Oscar Myer all natural bacon. It's a new product.

  8. So, I've always had fairly clear skin right? I'm 20 and I've only had a dozen pimples in my life :P But I've noticed that whenever I get glutened I can expect to get a few of them within the next couple of days. Does anyone else have this issue?

I break out really bad around my jaw line when I get glutened. The lady who does my facials said that the jaw line is your digestive system, guess she is right!

  9. I am new at this and have been seeing a lot about hair loss lately. Since I can remember I have been a profuse shedder - especially in the shower. I don't have bald spots or anything of the sort and unfortunately haven't ever noticed any thinning either. I always thought this to be somewhat normal for a girl with ultra thick long hair - is this in fact what people mean by hair loss in relation to celiac disease? I also had my thyroid checked when I was originally tested for Celiac about a month ago and it came back normal.

Yes, I had hair loss. I have long think and curly hair. I will also have some loss but it was getting out of control for a while before I figured out what was wrong with me and went gluten-free. Hair loss has slowed big time but when I get glutened, it's back with full force.

  10. I hope this is not a fluke or a "placebo effect."

Let me start by saying my symptoms aren't too bad, nothing diabilitating like some of you. I am also waiting for the official diagnosis.

Normally, I just have some D in the morning and my GI symptoms are done for the day. Today I had my first almost normal BM in months! (I know the weird things we can discuss here and get excited about.)

Today around 1:30 or so without even thinking, I decided it was time to dust my room and fold clothes. Suddenly I realized this is the time I crash every day. I didn't feel tired. I had energy and I finished the job I started. It also happened to be a rainy dreary day which usually doesn't help with that tired feeling. I'm really hoping this wasn't a fluke.

Yay! I felt better within 3 days. Energy went back up, mood swings weren't as bad, skin looked better, hair wasn't falling out as much..oh yeah and I could go #2 without severe pain and major C! It is funny how we get so excited for other peoples BM!

  11. I had my sister more or less tell me today allot of these things are peoples minds. Meaning me of course. That hurt but what can I do? I have to take care of myself and go on.

I've had friends make comments that pretty much were along the lines of oh boy, what now? Since it took me over 10 yrs to figure out what was wrong with me, I went through many different ideas of what it may have been....once I went gluten-free it was obvious within 3 days that was my problem all along. I know my Mom has it and she will not go gluten-free. Guess she would rather takes meds and be in pain everyday rather than putting down the donuts!

  12. I spent 5 days with them and received nothing but constant ball busting about my dietary issues. My uncle thinks i have OCD and said i need to talk to someone..my aunt is very accommodating but whenever i discuss health issues her response is "oh please Jason, your grandparents lived to their 90s and you cant worry about this all the time" Meantime my cousin has chronic bloating, IBS and gas and drinks like a fish and they say nothing about that. I'm sure they are right on some level...having health issues can cause people to be a bit OCD..especially if they are predisposed and yes life is short and you cant worry about everything all the time, but if I chose to live and eat certain way why cant people just accept it? At least I still eat out all the time..if i chose to just eat at home i can only imagine the grief I would get.

I'm sorry! Some people get it and others never will. I was at a friends house for Thanksgiving and she and her Mother went out of their way to repeat 25 times to me that the spinach and cheese puffs were gluten free....puffs being the key word here. Most people haven't heard of gluten and if they have they have zero concept as to what it is let alone understanding how sick it makes some of us. I also have a nut allergy and people are a little better at that but again, not everybody. My Aunt was looking for glucose free stuff to send me for my birthday and my Mom had to correct her....it's never easy is it?

  13. I to am having similar issues!!!! I have been diagnosed with Celiac Disease, but have found that eating corn is giving me a belly ache and bloating. I have searched to no avail about this. Is there anything, anywhere that tells that you can be allergic to both? If anyone has any info on this I would greatly apprecaite it.

I'm having issues when I eat corn as well.....just started to figure it out when I ate a dish with corn and felt so bloated it was almost like my stomach was going to burst open. No gluten other than corn gluten. I found a video from a doctor in Texas saying that most people with gluten intolerance have issues and inflammation when they eat oats and corn...even if it's packaged as gluten free. I'm not sure if he is correct but I'm trying to avoid corn and see what happens.

  14. I am feeling the gluten now. Stomach pains, Nausea and depression already...

    I ate for dinner:

Fire Side Gourmet 100% Pure Black Angus Beef hamburger patty

    Bush's Black Beans

    and Great Value Creamed Corn..

What could it have been of this???

I just want to SCREAM!! It has been SO LONG since I was glutened!! AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I am also Super Sensitive.. Could it have been CC??

Hi and sorry you are feeling bad....I hate this! Maybe it was the cream in the cream corn or the corn itself. I'm starting to notice issue when I eat corn....bloating and glutened type stuff......just a thought.

  15. With all the Turkey Talk lately, I've learned that some/most turkey manufacturers inject natural flavorings and seasonings and broth to enhance the flavor. Some contain gluten. It made me start thinking about our other meats we buy every day. Do they inject flavors and such into our chicken, beef, etc? Has anyone looked into this, before I google?

    Just wondering....

Just went to Btterball's website and it reads:

Butterball product labels let consumers know whether any of the top eight allergens may be present in the product. For example, a label may read

  16. I pulled their info online today. None of their BBQ sauce or meat except for the pulled pork contain gluten...or so they say! All desserts are OUT, which doesn't surprise me. I noticed that the BBQ sauce does contain sulfites...maybe that is what you reacted to?? I know that is a problem for a lot of people.

  17. I really hope there's someone else out there that knows what I'm going through. Normally, I'm very good w/ the gluten-free diet and I don't have many problems, after all I've been following one for years. But it seems that I have a serious complication when I screw up.

Now, it seems when I get glutened that something is happening on top of the normal symptoms (i.e. bloating/diarrhea). When I eat something I'm not suppose to, for several days following whenever I eat anything whatsoever, the more complicated and harder to digest the worse it is, I lose absolutely all of my energy and it literally puts me out.

The best way to explain this is what happened to me yesterday. I ate some boudin that I strongly suspect had gluten in it wednesday, and got sick. Yesterday, woke up after sleeping for 8 hours and ate some safe Italian Pork Sausage. Within an hour, I literally fell on the couch and slept for another 5 hours. I woke up and ate some more because I was hungry. For the next 5+ hours, I was like a zombie. I literally struggled to walk or even pick up items that weighed less a couple pounds, and I'm a 24 year old male in pretty good shape. When I'm good, I can run/lift weights but here I was struggling to pick up something that was 2-3 lbs. That is the best I can illustrate how drained I was.

Today, I ate some garlic (gluten free) bread and had the same reaction. Massive sleepiness accompanied by extreme fatigue. It lasts as long as it takes for me to digest the foods, then I slowly regain some energy...

Now, I'm guessing when I get glutened it's injuring my intestines and when I eat something afterwards, it's getting into my blood stream? That or my body is coping to get the food digested through my injured intestines? I don't know.

Please tell me there's someone else out there that goes through this, or is there anything I can do for it? Any foods that are safe and won't do this to me after I get glutened?

It takes me days to get over being glutened. I have bloating and constipation for days after and my mood swings like wind chimes in a hurricane! Thought it was just in my head, but doesn't sound like it now. Thanks for making me feel normal!

  18. Hello,

Is it possible for gluten to linger on and in a crock pot? In the past I used it to cook gluten type foods but of course it gets cleaned after each use. I made beef stew last week and within an hour of eating it....glutened! Bloated belly, gas, pain, etc....I'm just starting to feel like normal after several days. I know nothing I put in the stew contained gluten. All it was was beef and veggies. Had something similar happen after using our deep fryer a few months ago as well. My Mom said maybe when the pores open up when things heat up it may allow the trapped gluten to escape?? Any thoughts?

    Thanks!
