I didn't know what Coeliac meant until one of my bosses suggested it was a possible problem. Her better half was also a Coeliac, among his many other allergies, and she was pretty sure she recognised my symptoms from when he accidentally ate the stuff.

A few weeks on I feel much better, but still a way to go.

Because this is new to both me and my family, none of us are really sure what I should (and more importantly, shouldn't) be eating. Almost all of us are now avid ingredients checkers and mildly obsessed with cleaning the kitchen counters down, but they dont mind most of the time now I'm so much more easy to deal with.

I'm still battling a few family member's views that my allergies are not attention seeking, but more at the forefront now is managing to stay gluten free when I am out of the house for up to ten hours a day and still trying to eat lunch.

I'm essentially a work in progress. Wish me luck. xx

  1. Finding a Holland and Barret is a very good place to start for gluten free snacks and breads, though some of them have a very limited range. Supermarkets, my favourites being Tesco and Asda, have a very good range of gluten free foods, snacks and breads and things that can be useful to you. Most supermarkets, ift hey are big enough, have a section at...
  2. Saccharomyces Cerevisiae is a yeast, so maybe they are looking for some kind of infection that could be causing issues? Sorry, I'm not sure .-.
  3. Hey, I've been on this site a while now, though I disappeared for a while when I got tangled up in life (University started, work ect) but over the last few months my health has begun to deteriorate to the point where I may as well be eating wheat and at least be suffering for something. I want to get tested, and the Coeliacs confirmed so my Grandparent...
  4. My OCD has lessened tremendously, but I'm still a rather jumpy person. I think it depends on one's own state of mind and health, among other things.
  5. I haven't read through this whole thread yet, just want to add my experience in here. When I was eating wheat before I realised what was causing my symptoms, I was a very neurotic individual, easily disturbed and plagued with nightmares. I was also an insomniac, and as such I was very unwell. Even with sleeping pills I was constantly depressed and very...
  6. I think even just a week can make a huge difference, depending on how badly damaged you were before that and how strongly you went gluten free. If you cut it out, as well as lactose, right from the start you would probably heal faster than someone still eating lactose, because it is notoriously hard to digest. Though my parents were very supportive, one...
  7. It was an elimination thing for me, though it wasnt planned. I visited my boyfriend in Australia and stayed with his family for six months. Whereas at home I would have a pork product nearly every day, over there they had one once every month. It was pretty easy to pinpoint the cause when it went away after a few weeks and came back again the evening after...
  8. I havent had gluten for about three weeks now, and for two of those I felt brilliant. I tried to eat some pork at the weekend (an intolerance I gained with the gluten intolerance) and that had a nasty effect on my stomach, but five days later the symptoms have gotten worse rather than better. - had a headache all week, which water and painkillers wont touch...
  9. I dont have time to read all of this right now, as I have to go soon, so I've skipped to the bottom to post. Sorry for any repeated advice. Have you looked into the possibility of any other allergies? I developed a pork allergy along side Coeliacs, and I get a burning sensation in my upper stomach/ lower chest area every time I eat it by accident. Maybe...
  10. My periods were always irregular and very heavy, lasting at least seven days, until I went on the pill. That seemed to regulate them effectively for me, though I did have on every month whereas you are having them very sporadically. I cant say the pain has improved since taking up this diet, butit might in the future, as this is my first whilst eating a...
  11. Pregnancy does all kinds of weird and wonderful things to the blood cell count, solute count and molecule count of the blood. I would suggest waiting until she has had her baby and wait a few weeks for her body to re-settle, just to be sure.
  12. Lol. Funky Christmas lists must come with the territory. I fell asleep thinking about what I could make to go in my lunches next week, which is a little more food obsessed than I usually am XD I'm giving it a break until Friday now and having a salad from subway - checking the sauces, of course - with plain chicken, which should be fine. My paranoia is...
  13. I would recommend stopping dairy for a little while. I found when I stopped eating gluten that my stomach was still sensitive to dairy for a week after, at least, before I could eat low levels of it again. I would also recommend, while you're beginning to heal, to eat things that are easily digestible: Fruit, veg, fish and as little red meat as possible...
  14. I realised that foods could really effect people's behaviour, but I didnt expect gluten to be one of them. Guess because it wasn't as drastic as my brother's allergy I didnt really notice it.
  15. Thank you all again! I never expected to get this many replies! Though that lunch package you recommended looks very useful, it is unfortunately rather expensive. I'm currently living off about
