Candida infection or something else?
plumbago replied to Ferguston's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You have deleted your posting with the video (I think you have - at least I can't find it any longer) so my comment doesn't really make sense without it, in terms of flow, ease of reading and sense. Was my comment ad hominen? It's a close call, I can see why you thought so. However, calling someone immature thereby seeking to invalidate their argument... -
Candida infection or something else?

Vitamin complexity is a boon to those wanting a presence on the Internet. It is an endless giving well. Throw in a little criminally preventable and horrible national diet and there you have a fairly captive audience. Your opinion may vary, I realize. But I believe I am allowed to push back on the linked video’s web site, which I intend to do. I s... -
Candida infection or something else?

@Ferguston What is your Vitamin D level? What are the levels of your B vitamins? It would be good to know before you start experimenting, but be careful going to enclosed offices, obviously. In one of your posts you said you are overweight. Refeeding syndrome is even rarer than SIBO, even among celiacs, and I imagine among the overweight, rarer... -
Candida infection or something else?

I am still trying to figure out my post-breakfast fatigue, which usually coincides with eating toast, butter and jam. (When I'm not eating over 8 g of added sugar, I still may be eating toast and butter but not the jam.) It just happened after eating Udi's Millet Chia bread. It has only 3g of sugar of which 2 g are added. 300 mg of sodium. Ingredients are... -

@Ferguston .....unless by "the rare cases that you should avoid them is when they damage you, but those are a small number of people only." you meant carbohydrates as a general category of nutrients and not processed carbohydrates. If so, my humble apologies. I often race to post things without stopping long enough to consider context. -

You got it! 100% agree. I could not disagree more! We are learning, every day, how ultra processed food damages us. Look at what Covid is doing to our inflamed bodies. Ultra processed foods are among the most addictive things on earth, right up there with heroin and nicotine. Sounds like hyperbole, but it's truly not. I'm saying to do a bit... -

Hi, I have had similar heart symptoms and documented it here and also here in case you’re interested in reading about the cardiac symptoms I have had recently. Long and short of it is, I have these SVTs that really disturb me, but for now cardiologists say are “benign.” I won’t repeat what I’ve said in those posts, except in my cas... -
Heart Palpitations
plumbago replied to Raphael's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you checked to see if you have a hiatal hernia? Two days ago, I related in a long post here the saga of my "heart palpitations" which actually is in my case supraventricular tachycardia (SVT). I go on and on about it, but basically I think I'm concluding it happens after I eat and especially after I eat processed carbohydrates too quickly... -
Thanks - yes, I already do most of this as well (time-restricted eating and checking blood glucose), pretty religiously in fact. When I fast for >1 day, I go into ketosis very very easily, it's weird. My fasting insulin is pretty good.

I'm providing this update mostly to those other readers who may have SVTs like me. For the last three weeks, I have given up caffeine and added sugar, and I have added mag citrate. Here’s what I think may be a big contributing factor to SVT. I notice that the SVTs happen after I eat, usually breakfast. Today, I ate my usual veggie-heavy breakfast, ...

Egads! The study https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6683263/#sec5-nutrients-11-01588title is about children. I'm an adult. Who is not malnourished. As I said. But listen? Why do it?

Doesn't sound that nutz to me! It just means (I think) you were not in a deep wave sleep but a more "superficial" type, as it were. And I'm no expert. Seems like you may need to sleep more deeply to get the rest you're after. I know that when I work overnights, the sleep I get the next morning until about 1 pm is among the best I ever have! (And I dislike...

Average intake of thiamin in the US is sufficient and meets or exceeds recommendations.

I hesitated joining the thread because in my recent experience here (last two years), I’ve encountered responses that tend to reflect that the readers have simply not fully read, heard and appreciated the original commenters’ messages. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3829244/ I know a little about Wernicke's, have treated patients wit...

I don't have Wernickes. I'm not malnourished, I'm an alcoholic, I don't even drink, mentioned nothing about alcohol, or even stomach/gastro issues, but it seems you truly want to talk about thiamine deficiency, this is very important to you - I suggest perhaps opening a more relevant thread. Thanks.

A couple of months ago, there was a related thread - https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/122992-diagnosed-with-sleep-apnea/ - in which I was encouraged again, again, and again to take magnesium, and in which I protested again and again (etc) that my levels were normal, even, I believe, posting lab results! And, deep breath in, here’s what I have t...

Trouble swallowing choking on my own saliva?

If you are waking up choking on your saliva, you might consider getting evaluated for sleep apnea (when the pandemic subsides a bit). -
Trouble swallowing choking on my own saliva?
plumbago replied to CottenCandyDream's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you are curious to know your levels, you can order the test and pay for it yourself. It should be between $75 and $99. Not cheap, but it may give you piece of mind. I would think that if you were ever deficient, your doctor would order at least an annual D level, and if she or he did, then insurance would pay for it. Just request your doctor to order it... -
Smarties
plumbago replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I didn't even know they were available in the US. I wouldn't have made such a big deal asking a friend to bring me some back from England, if I did. But interesting they are gluten free in the US but not England. I wonder why that is. I also never stop wondering just what exactly wheat adds to a candy that makes it so necessary. Oh well. I shouldn't be eating...- 4 replies

Note to self: read the ingredients label on foreign sweets you used to eat as a child that someone returning from said foreign country just brought to you (and who did not read the label either to forewarn you!) before scarfing down 2/3 of the tube. Translation: Smarties are not gluten free.

Thank you. Can I ask a couple of questions? What is your and her understanding of how a bad glutening triggers POTS? Second, how was the POTS diagnosed, and what special precautions, if any, does she take? Thank you.

Hi, and thanks for responding! Let's just say I was born (like a baby as relative once said) in the 1960s! What you're describing in the first paragraph is orthostatic hypotension, if I'm not mistaken. I don't think it's that, and the reason I say that is I had been standing already, for a while. What's "a while?" A few minutes at least. In other words, it...

Hi all, Yesterday morning after eating toast, the last of my breakfast, and while standing doing this and that in the kitchen, I felt my heart strongly in my chest. My rate was increasing, so I sat down and put a pulse oximeter on my finger and my HR was 155. I had to do a couple of vagal maneuvers to get it down (cough, hold breath and bear down). I...

One Dish Cuisine (restaurant in Ellicott City, Maryland)
plumbago replied to plumbago's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
A week or so ago, I called and spoke to someone who indicated that they are (still) attempting to sell, but it will probably change locations. Meantime, they are continuing to sell their equipment, which I don't totally understand if they are selling the business. Plumbago
