  1. Egads! The study https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6683263/#sec5-nutrients-11-01588title is about children. I'm an adult. Who is not malnourished. As I said. But listen? Why do it?
  2. Doesn't sound that nutz to me! It just means (I think) you were not in a deep wave sleep but a more "superficial" type, as it were. And I'm no expert. Seems like you may need to sleep more deeply to get the rest you're after. I know that when I work overnights, the sleep I get the next morning until about 1 pm is among the best I ever have! (And I dislike...
  3. Average intake of thiamin in the US is sufficient and meets or exceeds recommendations.
  4. I hesitated joining the thread because in my recent experience here (last two years), I’ve encountered responses that tend to reflect that the readers have simply not fully read, heard and appreciated the original commenters’ messages. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3829244/ I know a little about Wernicke's, have treated patients wit...
  5. I don't have Wernickes. I'm not malnourished, I'm an alcoholic, I don't even drink, mentioned nothing about alcohol, or even stomach/gastro issues, but it seems you truly want to talk about thiamine deficiency, this is very important to you - I suggest perhaps opening a more relevant thread. Thanks.
  6. A couple of months ago, there was a related thread - https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/122992-diagnosed-with-sleep-apnea/ - in which I was encouraged again, again, and again to take magnesium, and in which I protested again and again (etc) that my levels were normal, even, I believe, posting lab results! And, deep breath in, here’s what I have t...
  7. If you are waking up choking on your saliva, you might consider getting evaluated for sleep apnea (when the pandemic subsides a bit).
  8. If you are curious to know your levels, you can order the test and pay for it yourself. It should be between $75 and $99. Not cheap, but it may give you piece of mind. I would think that if you were ever deficient, your doctor would order at least an annual D level, and if she or he did, then insurance would pay for it. Just request your doctor to order it...
  9. I didn't even know they were available in the US. I wouldn't have made such a big deal asking a friend to bring me some back from England, if I did. But interesting they are gluten free in the US but not England. I wonder why that is. I also never stop wondering just what exactly wheat adds to a candy that makes it so necessary. Oh well. I shouldn't be eating...
  10. Note to self: read the ingredients label on foreign sweets you used to eat as a child that someone returning from said foreign country just brought to you (and who did not read the label either to forewarn you!) before scarfing down 2/3 of the tube. Translation: Smarties are not gluten free.
  11. Thank you. Can I ask a couple of questions? What is your and her understanding of how a bad glutening triggers POTS? Second, how was the POTS diagnosed, and what special precautions, if any, does she take? Thank you.
  12. Hi, and thanks for responding! Let's just say I was born (like a baby as relative once said) in the 1960s! What you're describing in the first paragraph is orthostatic hypotension, if I'm not mistaken. I don't think it's that, and the reason I say that is I had been standing already, for a while. What's "a while?" A few minutes at least. In other words, it...
  13. Hi all, Yesterday morning after eating toast, the last of my breakfast, and while standing doing this and that in the kitchen, I felt my heart strongly in my chest. My rate was increasing, so I sat down and put a pulse oximeter on my finger and my HR was 155. I had to do a couple of vagal maneuvers to get it down (cough, hold breath and bear down). I...
  14. A week or so ago, I called and spoke to someone who indicated that they are (still) attempting to sell, but it will probably change locations. Meantime, they are continuing to sell their equipment, which I don't totally understand if they are selling the business. Plumbago
  15. Thanks! Yes, I just saw this myself, and o sure, I'll go plunk down a check tomorrow! But actually it's been a dream of mine to open a gluten-free restaurant in DC and call it Gluten Free, so there'd be no question. It's just strange because the rest of the web site is open. If it weren't for the sidebar twitter feed and the blog, you wouldn't know....
  16. Hi everyone, If you live in the DC or Baltimore area, do you know the story about One Dish Cuisine? After nine years with my dx of celiac disease, I was finally preparing for a weekend trip/pilgrimage there, but saw on a sidebar twitter feed on their web site, that it's closed. Does anyone know the full story? Thanks! Plumbago
  17. Stress probably still can cause ulcers, as far as I understand, but from my reading online, the discussion so far is correct. H. Pylori is responsible (probably) for the majority of ulcers. However, I would keep my "no connection" (celiac disease and HP) powder dry until I do more investigating, but that's just me. However, it (no connection) is what is understood...
  18. Regarding the greens, I actually like them, and jam a lot in my smoothie in the morning. I almost always add ginger, which helps immensely. I have tried twice to eat organ meats, and I could not muster any enthusiasm, it felt like I was eating wrought iron. I am not precise on what I’m doing, so I probably should not even come close to saying I do anything l...
  19. Wow: more than what she calls for?! Incredible. How do you do it? I know you said lettuce, but that can take you only so far, I would think. Do you have anything to cite regarding food and eczema? I also have eczema but thought in my case it was triggered by an environmental allergen. But your arthritis, that's just great. My knees are starting to hurt, maybe...
  20. I can imagine you may be tiring of our skepticism, but one more: are you curious what this was due to? CD3 immunostain demonstrates increased intraepithelial lymphocytes throughout most of the architecturally preserved villi.
  21. Chuck, Was that a normal endoscopy you had in 2012? From another post you made at https://www.celiac.com/forums/topic/121153-six-years-after-diagnosis-2nd-endoscopy-results/?tab=comments#comment-990090 you mentioned the results which I've copied below: Duodenal mucosa with increased intraepithelial lymphocytes and normal villous architecture...
  22. Reason for delay in my responding is that I am just seeing this now. Terry Wahls, MD is a genius/fantastic person/insert own superlative - in my book. She actually recommends 9 cups of nonstarchy vegetables (last time I looked), and she herself does some kind of version of keto to overcome her MS successfully, but I do not have all the details on that, just...
  23. The liver is a blessedly regenerative organ (up to a point), but still listen to those doctors! Losing 7-10% of weight is said to improve things a lot (assuming you are overweight), as you seem to know already. There's the ALT which you've already given, but there's also AST, which I don't think you have listed. In any event, there is something you may...
  24. I’m wondering if they are now wanting to work you up from a liver and pancreas angle. It struck me as a bit strange that you said you had fatty liver with enzymes just barely out of range. Did they say NAFLD or NASH? Although I did “walk through the front door” regarding a celiac disease dx, Dr Fasano meant from a labs and endoscopy point of view. I do...
  25. It must be maddening to have such vague responses. But regarding the lymphocytosis on your biopsy, according to a Grand Rounds lecture on the pathogenesis of celiac by Dr Hasan H. Hasan: “Gluten digests into gliadin. Gliadin gets into the epithelium and destroys the epithelial cells. It causes an overexpression of the cytokines, interleukin-15, and i...
