The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
IrishHeart replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Colleen, To answer your question about cubing the bread? yes, sure! I cube mine sometimes. It does not matter. I can give you a pie dough recipe that is awesome and not that hard to make. Do you have a rolling pin? Not being a wise guy, here, I am just asking. or I can give you a pumpkin pie recipe with ginger snap cookie crust and an apple crisp... -

Clever Ski made it up. It marks the day we stopped eating the poison. It's the first day of our new life. 11/1/10....so, I'm 3 today. And yes, I feel like a happy toddler. It also marks the beginning of "birthday month" and the holidays, our anniversary, J's bday, yadda yada yadda. We get carried away with these celebrations in our home. A giant festival... -

I have always found the title "better than sex cake" to be a flat out lie. No cake is that good and that's a high bar to set lol. But I bet it's dang tasty. Say Happy Bday to your son for me! Thanks, Guys. Yes, it sure is good to be alive and kicking instead of dead. Now, gimme a piece o'cake. -

My chef friend Babs taught me how to do this--de-bone a turkey then butterfly the breast. and roll it (crazy, considering my track record with pointy, sharp objects ) and I found it to be a pain in the arse but do-able. However, her stuffed turkey breast recipe---very similar to this one except spinach was involved-is just outrageously delicious. This looks... -

Now I've got both ciabatta and challah on the brain. Get down here, missy and whip some up for me? In the "old days". I thought there was nothing like french toast made with challah bread...yum. -

If you had not at least tried one, I was going to give you a stern whaaa wa??? Bella does not "act" unimpressed. Cats are either impressed or they aren't. You always know where you stand with a cat. You are "in" or you're "out" Dogs slobber, hump and love anything in its path. Not particular and not choosy. If a cat likes you, you have been chosen. You are special. (Look, I am a dog person, I had an awesome lab named Gracie, but... -

yeah, it's cooled right off. seriously, it's really quite beautiful. No humidity, 82 and just lovely. We are thrilled with our decision to move here. Bella has 2 boyfriends. "Whiskey" and his brother "Punch" visit daily. They belong to the neighbors (he's from Ireland) and they are also the owners of this house we have rented. The boys come by every day... -
Reaction To Buckwheat?
IrishHeart replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Depends on the buckwheat. How was it processed? I eat Pocono's buckwheat without issues. P.S. just curious, but is a blood type diet the one where you should supposedly only eat foods that match your blood type? -

I find it somewhat humorous (though sadly humorous) that I can get complete strangers to listen to me, but my large extended family just turns a deaf ear. What is up with that? lol Only my Mom went GF and she feels fabulous. If she can adapt at 85, anyone can. G. -
I suspect you are correct!. It's possible their preemies are preemies because of it too. I hate to think of the downward spiral these women may face. sigh. Maybe you can slip them a celiac pamphlet? None of their doctors are "getting it". Thanks for sharing so much with us! Take care, Ginny

arleneeeeee, hey what if you "pinned" the lasagne roll ups with a toothpick (or even a turkey needle thinger--yeah they probably have a name but I;ll be damned if I can think of it) before frying? they might stay together better. just a thought, sweets. I've seen the roll-ups baked, but not fried, but you like to be experimental, I know. . I do not pre... -

We had a cold snap come through. Yeah, it's down to 82. send me a picture of snow sometime. (I still like it!) I made a lasagna last night because I was able to find Tinkyada noodles. whoohoo! This morning, my 3 pals urticaria, headache and joint pain showed up for breakfast, so looks like I am not ready for tomatoes & aged cheese a few days... -
Anger, Quick Temper, Depression
IrishHeart replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am not aware of any evidence that states we celiacs cannot eat the flesh and fat of animals who eat grains and soy--as this veterinarian claims. I read this in one of this articles: He questions: " How hard is it to believe that the flesh- and fat - of animals consuming gluten, soy and corn contain enough lectins to do us harm?" Answer: It... -
yeah, I had "IBS" for 12 years too. Once Dxed and off gluten that "IBS" magically disappeared. I admire you for taking on the gluten challenge. It's not an easy task at ll.

Having suffered severe neuropathy and burning nerve pain during the 3 years prior to my diagnosis, I had the same battery of testing you did. EMGs on legs and arms (that is not fun), a brain MRI and a spinal MRI, testing for lupus, diabetes and repeatedly for Lyme,I was told I probably had fibromyalgia and I should take Neurontin plus nortryptiline or lyrica...

Thanks for summarizing what you learned at the symposium, Jess. I have been getting some great info from Karen, and any more I can hear is eagerly awaited. I know how busy you are, so just taking the time to summarize all that is fantastic! and wow! I had no idea that: There are many types of tissue transglutaminase (TTG) antibodies. Type 2 TTG... -

Any chef who provides daily bacon is a good chef. Maybe his appetite was up because he was happy to see his Mom?. Oh yes, there are lots of RED things at Sur La Table. Plus, her name is Ginny. Ginny Bakes. I mean, c'mon! Hubs' Bday is Dec. 13. His day was kept separate, he recalls and not combined with Christmas. His parents made sure of that. He was an only child, so that could be part of it. My cousin's Bday was Dec. 25. She said she did not mind it as she thought all the fuss was about her.lol I think the only... -
