  1. Some people do lose a lot of weight from unDxed celiac, yet some do not. And yes, many people can lose weight initially when they give up breads. pastas, wheat-filled goodies, but once the gut starts absorbing nutrients again, weight gain can occur.
  2. Have you had your thyroid checked? Could cause the same symptoms (cold, fatigue, muscle aches) Just a suggestion.
  3. I'm all for that. Fresh. New. and Springy!!
  4. Me too. I've had enough of this crap.
  5. Fries, gravy and cheese = poutine, right? Sounds like comfort food to me! If you had not had at least 1 cookie to "make sure they weren't poison" (my excuse) I'd have been disappointed. I made bison meatloaf, whipped potatoes and corn---the hubs has recovered enough to have an appeitite. me? meh, not so much. But I got a few mouthfuls down. Cookies...
  6. sorry babes.... someone's already on the couch. How about this chair over here? we're all messes today.....
  7. Addy, Sorry honey. (and you just told me to never ever say things like this cuz karma bites us on the butt.) Hope you feel better soon.xx Ski, I'm speechless. Must have been something at M and D's--cuz no one is more careful than you are. Feel better soon. xx Hugs all around, but from a distance so as to be sure you do not get my flu cooties.(yeah...
  8. If there is wheat in a broth, the label must list WHEAT as an ingredient. I have never seen barley listed on a tuna can, but I suppose there is always a first.
  9. Good point, Ski. I suspect it will take me months (Doc said give it 6 months) but the "average" person may be able to tolerate low levels in 4 weeks (or so the HIT lit says). Like anything else with celiac disease, this could be an individual thing.
  10. I have to echo these two. I also have a histamine intolerance (HIT) and canned fish and shellfish will cause symptoms. Fresh caught fish is okay as it is lower in histamine.. In discussion with my GI doc last week, it can resolve in time after avoiding high histamine foods for several weeks, knocking down the level of histamine in your body and then...
  11. Thanks for asking, sweetie. Yes, a little bit ! Hubs --er, not so much. Poor guy. I was just about to start throwing together a chicken noodle soup. We do not really have appetites. I do not feel so wiped out today, so that must be a good sign!
  12. Synthetic vitamin E is often made from petroleum sources. Regarding Vitamin E and mixed tocopherols. This is a frequent question on here. Of course, we should not eat wheat germ, but the oil is highly refined. If a food or supplement includes as an ingredient vitamin E derived from wheat germ oil that is not highly refined, and the vitamin...
  13. Well, he was until he got it ,too. Nothing says true love like two people simultaneously hacking themselves silly all night long I wish you could come too, hon... but I'd rather you came when I am well so we can play together in the kitchen!!. Okay, well, I managed to work up the "oomph" to throw in a roasted chicken. It got a quickie butter,...
  14. I know, I know. duh To reverse the hex, I just said this: I never, ever win the lottery.
  15. Nice bacon hearts, K! waaaa I'm sick (note to self: never, ever brag that you "do not get colds or the flu") and I can't eat and everything hurts. oy. Can someone please bring me some chicken soup? Thank you. This had better be gone soon. I've got a vacation planned. ....'scuse me while I go cough up a lung.
  16. Not a good vegetarian here either. I love meat. I admit it. It's a moral dilemma for me as I love animals. I wish I could be a vegetarian or even a vegan. I do not think my muscles can recover without the meat protein right now. And I feel bad when I look a cow in the eye. I cast my eyes down in shame when we pass by the neighbors' farms. I will...
  17. I can relate to this sentiment on every level, dear girl. It was my husband who kept me from going mad when I was at my painful, sickest worst and our love only grows more with each year. He's my rock and my heartbeat and I light up like a firefly when I hear the door open and he yells," I'm home, Babe!' A bit mushy and goofy, I know, but I don't care...
  18. Trash can lids rule....City kid here! and oh, gosh.... I am surely not ready for it either...I may just ride the cat around on it..... I just want to play!
  19. have a blast! So, back to basics! Dinner tonight: Pork medallions in carmelized onions Applesauce and the "encore" of the butternut squash, goat cheese and hazelnut gratin. I exercised major restraint and did NOT make the cheesecake. not sure where this is coming from, except maybe the resurrected gym rat I had inside me? I broke...
