  1. ((hugs)) I have to say, I do not miss the "reason why we may resent being a girl." And as always, I love you madly-- for making me laugh. If this chicken dish works out, you need to share this recipe too! Your crock pot pulled pork in root beer??---still has everybody talking! Feel better, hon...and tell hubs to stay out of your way.......
  2. I love lamb (slurp) but you know this already, LOVE2 Today is Friday and I'm feeling more human again, so I think it's time for pesto pizza....yaaay!!! (hands clapping) To SORA: LOVE the new avatar!! and I totally agree. I am pretending to be a functioning adult right now...good lawd, where's my brain at? Did you see my brain? (I'm talking...
  3. One time, I talked about my "rye bread" recipe on here and it caused a bit of alarm...it was mock rye, of course, but some newbies reading the thread may not know, so we just checked to make sure. Corn couscous is not mentioned often around here. Maybe you could share the recipe on the recipe thread? Thanks!
  4. Hon, I am guessing you mean "a mock couscous" made from quinoa, right? (some people may read this and gasp ..or faint. ) Most people think of couscous as being made from semolina---i.e wheat.
  5. Well, I tried ADALAIDE's famous root beer pulled pork and it was such a huge hit!!---and it made so much--that we're having the "encore" tonight in those "Against the Grain" baguettes that I toast up with a garlic oil rub. I add carmelized onions to the pork sammies, too. Add the neighboring farmer's corn on the cob. Yum, yum. And because...
  6. I am not a huge rye bread fan, but I love my Reubens, too. Hubs and my friend, Elaine LOVE it, so I make it for them. I did not add the "rye flavoring" (it is expensive to ship it from authentic foods, but I may try it next time) BUT I did use the caraway--generously IN the mix and sprinkled on top of the loaves with an egg-white wash. It lasts...
  7. Well, it's too darn hot here to cook, so I'll pick up Sora on my way to Love2's house. Like Adalaide, I made bread today..."mock" rye bread today-- 2 loaves---but really, it's 88 out there....what was I thinking? ****added in "mock" so I don't scare the beejeepers out of anyone! thinking, has she lost her mind???
  8. sorry, Shroomie.... I just got my tomato-and--citrus and -spicy foods--eating ability back after 3+ years.
  9. exciting is one word. should I "spill"?? the only caveat I have is....this sauce does not need to be cooked!! That ruins all the fresh flavors.
  10. Pasta Puttanesca (I have always loved the story behind this dish) It's full of bold flavors. The tomatoes, basil, & parsley from my garden...and ripe greek olives, garlic, EVOO, capers, anchovies...I do not even cook my sauce..it marinates in a bowl on the counter for a n hour or so. Just cook up the pasta and toss...outrageous.
  11. She always says "OMYGAWD!! I am soooo fulll!!"" and I always reply, "whew, that's a relief. I was aiming for that!!" and she laughs!! Tonight's dinner: The few remaining "encores" --as that cake & whipped cream? WENT HOME WITH HER!
  12. Hubs' sweet Aunt was here for dinner yesterday (hence the late post) but she is so easy to cook for and I LOVE having her here. Can you imagine an 84- year- old who will happily eat ANYTHING you give her (and who loves her Manhattans? ). She is such a fun gal! She feasted on: Shrimp cocktail Tapenade and garlic toasts artichoke and spinach...
  13. The Planter's peanuts are fine. They are a Kraft food, which will clearly display "contains wheat" if they do. http://www.gfoverflow.com/results.php?q=brand:+Planters Any company can "say" ....."no gluten ingredients" or "naturally gluten free" or "gluten free" but if it does not have the GIG certification, which is a black G F in a circle, then...
  14. Yes!! The recipe I used did not have root beer in it, but I'll try that one next.
  15. NO, LOVE2Travel said SYLVIA had to shovel if we went all went up to HER house for dinner---in Canada ----in the winter. Geesh, that was a few months ago--are you on some sort of "tape-delay", honey? I know, you are delirious from the heat. Glad you're back!xxoo Dinner tonight: Panang Chicken curry.
  16. She awakes!! Holymotherofpearl, Bunz....where you been girl? I surely missed ya! and the "shovel" is in reference to? shoveling ice? snow? elk poo? .....BS?? 18. Start saving, girl! I will, too! yo!....LOVE 2!! how long before it snows again, sweetie?? Dinner tonight was: the "encore" of stuffed peppers (I never say leftovers) hubs said "delicious-o" and "you can make this again anytime, babe"... Is he the best "audience" or what?
