  1. Oh boy, there's nothing like them! My French-Canadian Gramma's family who immigrated to Boston and my Irish immigrant great-grandmother BOTH had an amazing baked bean recipe that takes all day long to slowly cook in an authentic baked bean pot. They fed their big families for days with those beans. My Mom recalls eating baked bean sammies on sweet...
  2. Shroomster, Alex turned me on to Hellman's Canola oil mayo. I was skeptical (as I did not care for the Spectrum mayo) but I have to say, it's the "real deal". And I thanked her profusely.
  3. ......or pink! Nothing says carney like cotton candy. Boston baked beans? sweet Corn? hand made sausages? Carney food?!! Gasp! Generations of New Englanders in my family just collectively rolled over in their graves.
  4. aw, gosh, well, I love you, too. I hate to see a girl deprived of food---when there are so many options out there. Irish thinks you should come and clean her house. It would be very good for you! (probably not buying that one, eh? meh, it was worth a shot) Dinner tonight is: veal osso bucco in the slow cooker. My shoulder is...
  5. can you have this? http://spoonful.com/recipes/blueberry-fool might be soothing... (I hate the dentist)
  6. Hon, there is a whole section of recipes on here that you can wade through. There's some great stuff on here! This thread is really more of a "here's what we're having" thread. ok?
  7. Love your comments. I can tell you are very generous to everyone here. :)

  8. My friend, you make "leftovers" sound like four-star dining. Those baked beans would have made my Bostonian Gramma swoon. And potato salad without capers--while it may make some of us say "waaa?" why do we need capers exactly?? --we both know it will not suffer much without them. I bet it is drool-worthy. Kuddos for punting while away...
  9. Yes, everyone, I have a pool !!! and I think you should all come soak in it, but I have to report it is a balmy 82 in there--not really refreshing at all. Might as well be in a tub. Dinner tonight is going to be sparse ---as I ate like a total oinkoid yesterday. Tomato soup Nectarine That's it. I'm serious.
  10. Thanks---and any day's a good day for Risotto, yes?
  11. Happy 4th of July Everyone! Garlic crostini with goat cheese and balsamic/herb marinated roasted peppers and tapenade Grilled Burgers with sauteed onions and mushrooms on Cheesy rolls (still thanking MarilynR for those! ) Grilled Baby potatoes and asparagus Herbed Mozzarella and tomato salad Watermelon chunks with feta cheese and mint...
  12. I tried JNBUNNIE's suggestion: Applegate farms hot dogs in Chebe wraps. Baked beans. Cole slaw with pineapple chunks. DE-LISH!! Thanks, BUNZ--hubs loved them!

  14. YAAAY!! whoohoo!! IH is standing and applauding you!!!! If I had an emoticon that showed a little cheerleader waving pom-poms, I'd post it here. (I am such a techno geek)
  15. I hear you, sister! Burgundy, marsala, port, sherry, brandy, cognac, bourbon, white wine, etc.....I use them often. and I sample Julia would be proud of me.
  16. Even still, you are making food "drunk", and I like it!
  17. Here is a collection of DH photos. They seem to represent the ways DH can "morph" Many of the pictures you have posted seem to be consistent with these pictures of diagnosed DH. This does not mean it IS DH, it just means...it sure seems to resemble it. I had many blistery sores on my scalp, face, in my mouth when I was very ill from unDXed...
  18. Well, sure..... who doesn't love pate?!! If we're "going there" --then yes, I am a CLLC member, too. Foie gras is only as good as the chef..... RUBBERY ones---oh no!!
  19. You are most welcome to come stay in the country with me anytime, Love2.
  20. Actually, I believe that EatMeat4Good loves chicken livers, too. You've got company. Enjoy! It is VERY hot here today, and even though I hate it, the AC is on, so I pulled out the counter top rotisserie and herbed up a chicken. A mixed green salad with goat cheese, dried cranberries, carmelized walnuts and balsamic dressing.

  22. yup. TONIGHT we had: Cream of chicken soup (made into a ) creamy chicken casserole with smashed taters and steamed haricots verts (damn, that bag lasts a long time, Karen) NO dessert. but I received this from my friend Elaine --regarding the LEMON bars and the pumpkin paleo bread I made with a dairy-free glaze for her gluten-free...
  23. only you (and I--- and maybe a few other sick pups) would have found that "literal" interpretation upon seeing that combo on the Recent post box!! I have. And I often wondered if anyone else did--and thought the same thing: we're not flesh- eating cannibals and whew!" ). I so heart you.
  24. Yuppers, the whole NE region has a short growing season--we are screwed!! and I have used the "he is such a good sport" phrase about my hubs from the moment I met him and for more times/reasons than I can count. Aren't we lucky chickies??
  25. Sorry, sweets, but my recipe calls for a ham bone. You need a "hamless" (i.e. vegetarian) recipe. How about this one? http://www.food.com/recipe/vegetarian-split-pea-soup-233926
