ARCHIVED Vitamin D Level Question
IrishHeart replied to dancinlesh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
well, my math/typing really sucks...Thanks, Steph!!. (sorry, I meant to type around 20,000 IUs) But even still... that would be more like 28,000 IUs. I will edit it. I am sure my doc(this is the female GYN) had her reasons for wanting mine just above 50 ( I was headed toward osteoporosis) but I can ask. I do not take any high doses of... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Level Question
IrishHeart replied to dancinlesh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have to add that even the Bs can accumulate too much. I had too much B6 in my system (which gave me nerve/ burning pain) and then, very high B-12 in my system. My doc had me back waaay the heck off and stop supplementing. Once you start absorbing, you really can achieve toxic levels of all vitamins. I know what it says on various places on the... -
keep up the good work. Cheers!

ARCHIVED Vitamin D Level Question
IrishHeart replied to dancinlesh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As far as I know, the recommended highest threshold dose per week is no more than 10,000 IUs**. Be careful, hon. You really can overdo supplements of all kinds contrary to those who think "more is better and we just pee it out". Not really true. Edited to add: That should read 28,000 IUs Math/typo/stoopid error) -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Level Question
IrishHeart replied to dancinlesh's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Mine was 13. Then it creeped up to 29. My doc wanted me over 50. ARCHIVED Cross Reactivity Test In Europe?
IrishHeart replied to JohanJohan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We do not really recommend tests on here. Well, some people do, but you should be made aware that the celiac panel is the only diagnostic tool for celiac, according to the celiac research centers. It is my understanding that there are no valid tests for gluten sensitivity (yet) or IgG4 food intolerances. A monitored elimination diet is the only way... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Level Question

The total number is all my doc ever cared about, but even still. 22 still seems low, IMHO. What was it before you took the mega-doses ? -

Even if they could, do not waste your money, hon. Those "tests" do not "diagnose" anything. -

I take collagen because my connective tissue, joints and hair were all damaged severely for years from undiagnosed celiac. I had significant hair loss. (made me very sad) It helps. Make sure you get the right kind with hyaluronic acid. -

IrishHeart replied to WestCoastGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It gets better, I promise. It is hard to believe when you feel so wonky, but it's true. It took me a long time to get there, but I am old (well, in dog years anyway) and I was very ill at diagnosis. Time is your ally. Patience is key. Tell yourself "Every day is a healing day!" when you wake up and when you go to bed. Healing from celiac is the... -

ARCHIVED The Whole Church Turned Around
IrishHeart replied to eers03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think it's incredibly sweet of your church members to offer up prayers on your behalf. You are blessed to be supported in that way! And for the record, I am always touched and deeply grateful for those people in my life who have offered prayers in my name. I know my devout Mormon friend was praying for me night and day when I was very ill before diagnosis... -
ARCHIVED Two Weeks In....messed Up Twice
IrishHeart replied to livinthelife's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I hate to sound like a broken record, but we are suggesting honestly that you hold off on the eating out for a few months while you heal up your gut a little bit. Eating out right away after diagnosis is not always the best idea. Sometimes a reaction to gluten is delayed and you may not be able to tell where or how it happened.(and I do not think it was... -
Some researchers say that the gluten antibodies will still be elevated enough for valid testing. And the DH rash is the last thing to resolve off gluten --if it is, in fact, true DH. I had rashes, but they were not typical DH blistering lesions. There are all kinds of rashes associated with celiac and gluten intolerance. See what happens. If you suspect...
