  1. Thank you for all of your help, IH. It's quite a world to try and navigate and your guidance has made the transition much easier. :)

  2. Sadly, this is what they do--give antibiotics for every damn thing. I had similar experiences. I would often just toss the script away, knowing full well, it was not the answer to the problem I was having. (this is also why we have more gut issues--unbalanced gut bacteria) Glad you found a good doctor!
  3. O M G and sunova.... PLEASE tell me you are going back to tell this jerkward you have a thyroid DX! Look him right in the face. This guy was not only out of line with his comments--he left you UnDXed!!! This makes me crazy --as it is all too familiar (see my posts)--and I fear, it goes on more often than we will ever know.
  4. Hon, with all due respect, I do not think anyone is being confrontational with you. We are offering our best advice, our combined years of experience and knowledge and helping others be less worrisome while learning to negotiate the gluten free waters. Someone asking another member for a source is not " being difficult or confrontational", but just seeking...
  5. O M G!!! --I thought my stories were absurd, but this one calls for the ever-popular WTF???? "allowed to look at??"....what a bunch of BS.....O M G.....Sorry, Jane. (hug)
  6. I knew all that when I wrote the letters, K. I did it for me, mostly. And they were firm, factual and non-inflammatory in tone and context. But I pointed fingers and I had the facts on my side. I was married to a lawyer once (almost became one myself ) and I knew full well none of them would admit to a damn thing in writing. One did call and leave...
  7. Knock it off, you "Cougar"! hahaha There are some fresh ones who "get it"--like mine. He has the challenge of (1) diagnosing people properly (2) undoing the damage his colleagues have done and (3) trying to convince the old guard in his practice that they are missing the damn boat. Poor guy. He did not intend to become a celiac specialist,...
  8. YES!!!!!!!!!!! Read Dr. Fasano's "Where Have all the American Celiacs Gone?" he figured out back in '96 that it was likely from lack of diganosis that the numbers of us were so small --not because there were so few celiacs--- but because no one was diagnosing them properly. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1651-2227.1996.tb14242.x...
  9. I sent the letter to her (the NP) and a copy to the doctor who owns the practice and to the MD/"holistic" doc I was also seeing at the time who also missed the DX and told me "volunteer work" would be good for me as it would get my mind off the constant pain and my hair loss, etc. I posted that doozy of a story earlier in the thread. It's okay. They...
  10. I agree totally with Shroom's advice. I learned about getting testing results the hard way. I trusted too much and did not learn about a huge error that was made by my former GI doctor until it was too late. In April 2009, he scoped me and recommended that we continue the course we were on (various GERD and IBS medicines) despite my rapid 90 lbs. weight...
  11. I am so sorry to hear this news, Marilyn. And as always, I am appalled at the lack of good care we have both received during our long ordeal of trying to be DXed and to get well. If it matters, I was tested repeatedly for Lyme-- because of the many shared symptoms-- and the specialist told me flat out, he was sure I did not have it, but that the two diseases...
  12. You're such a sweet person...please do me the honor of being my "friend",I added you to my friends List, hope you don't mind!If you ever feel like "chatting" drop me a line!

  13. fantastic! progress--in any form--is cause for celebration!xxooIH
  14. You are obviously tolerating dairy again, yes LOVEY?? Good for you
  15. In fact, bed-wetting IS listed as a symptom of gluten intolerance. I would awaken almost every night as a kid, calling to my Dad to walk me to the bathroom (my poor Dad--they should have just invested in a night light !) When I was in real trouble before my DX, I got up several times a night, banging off the walls on my way to the bathroom and back...
  16. You're a Cougar, Shroomie. roar, girlfriend.
  17. I'm good now. I found a young one who knows what celiac IS. Talks WITH me, not AT me and always makes me feel like I am his only patient. RETURNS MY CALLS HIMSELF! (gasp!) But he is young enough to be my son. Which is fine, as I am not breaking in any new ones. I saw maybe 30 doctors? in 3 years--- and I'm done doc-shopping.
  18. well, some eye candy might take some of the irritation out of our frustrating doctor visits down here...
  19. I had intense bladder pain and urgency, pressure and aching in my abdomen. Went to the ER twice with it over the course of 6 months. Not a UTI. I was getting up many times during the night, only to produce ...nothing. I was tested, scoped, prodded, saw a urogynecologist, etc, etc. I had pelvic floor pain, abdominal pressure, just misery for 3 years. They...
  20. It does get better! You do not sound dramatic at all---your relief is genuine. I did the SAME thing when I came on here last year and saw RAVENWOODGLASS and others posting this same information and reassuring me that my symptoms were gluten-related and I would be all right in time. No doctors could tell me that. I had brain MRIs, EMGs and saw 3 neuros....
  21. oh yes.. and I walked sideways and banged into walls (had so many bruises) also, I had vertigo, blurry vision and I was hallucinating at times (I never told any one that until another celiac and I discussed it recently-- because I did not want anyone to think I was nuts--- but once she said it, I said YUP, me too) I felt like things were...
  22. I had this myself and virtually all those symptoms have disappeared after I went gluten-free. It took me several months for those and the other neurological symptoms to improve/lessen. They are pretty scary symptoms for sure. There are several threads on here that discuss gluten ataxia. Lots of us have suffered these symptoms. Look under "related...
  23. Turkey meatloaf with various herbs, braised shallots and brussel sprouts and garlicky smashed potatoes. I am on an elimination diet and it is getting old really fast.
  24. No shame here, hon! If anyone gets it, it's us!
  25. Sounds Fab, Cathey!! (major drool)My tiramisu was pretty darn good (pre DX) and now, I know I can make it again. Thanks for sharing!
