  1. That's wonderful news! I would be excited too if I was Amanda B) Disney characters are always cool. The folks at Disneyworld and Make-a-Wish Foundation are good people. When I went to Disneyworld, I saw a little girl with cancer who got to meet Peter Pan. I had never saw such a sweet smile on anyone's face. They do a good job, so, I know she'll have fun!

  2. Welcome here! :) Don't worry, most here are kind.

From what I know, I believe you can if it goes unDxed for a long time. Without the right minerals/nutrients (which you're deprived of if your villi is serevely damaged from the anti-bodies attacking the gluten sticking to them because it can't be taken in if your villi is barely there.), you can lose excessive weight (been down that road), lose hair (same), causes other illnesses and diseases such as cancer. The tiredness is another thing, it can bring you down fast. No energy to excerise, do things that were normal, or anything else. It affects the entire body. Combos of D and C, headaches and other symptoms can wear you down. Some people don't have these symptoms at all, but, it's still doing the damage.

Nini is absolutely right!!! Your body should give a good dietary response and the villi will heal. Keeping with the diet is the key.

If you need anything, give me a PM!

  3. The CSA statement on McD's site is a bit confusing. But, if you click on bag on a McMeal, click on their fries, calculated, then click on more details, it provides this ingredients list:

    Large French Fries

Potatoes, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, natural flavor (beef, wheat and dairy sources), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (to preserve natural color). Cooked in partially hydrogenated vegetable oils (may contain partially hydrogenated soybean oil and/or partially hydrogenated corn oil and/or partially hydrogenated canola oil and/or cottonseed oil and/or sunflower oil and/or corn oil). Contains derivatives of wheat and dairy.

    Salt

As for BK, I don't trust them. My folks have gotten Onion rings in their fries all the time.

  4. I tried talking to Mom about going to a chiropractor. That went nowhere <_< . I'm going to pull her up to the computer and let her see this post. Thanks for the good recommendations everyone! They've already have told me that I have high levels of stress, anxiety, mild depression, ect, ect, ect. Maybe this will convince Mom?

That epsom salt sounds nice! I love putting stuff like that in the tub, so, I'll absolutely try to get it.

No ice packs yet, but, that's where I'm heading to next.

It was at night, but, I was awake. It was around 11:45 pm went it started happening, after I took my meds fifteen minutes before. I was clearly awake and everything. Having surgery messed up my sleeping times all up.

Doin' pretty good today! The back pain's still there, but, not really bad or anything. I had my third post-op today. No scared tissue and no prodding up there! I was glad to come home pain-free :)

Once again, I really do think a lot about what everyone posts. :)

  5. Welcome Natibug!!!

This is a good learning experience. Always, always, ALWAYS read the label. People are lazy and if they get an unwanted item, 99.99% time they're going to chunk it off somewhere in the wrong place. Or, for the uneducated worker, they might think something's gluten-free and it's not, so, into the gluten-free aisle it goes.

As for getting glutened, the only thing I usually do is drinking plently of water and maybe take Tylenol. Far as it goes for me, nothing much really helps. I have to ride out the storm 'til its gone. hopefully, someone else can suggestion something. Just keep strong and strict on the diet. :)

    -Ash

  6. Mmkay, this is a little weird. The "skinny kid with pot-belly" was pre-gluten-free thing, right? I'm starting to get that way now!!! I feel like I'm going to burst! I never dealt with this before. Only related to it was I lost a lot of weigh and had the sereve pain, yeah, you guys know.

I'm guessing I'm getting glutened and I'm always bloated.

Gas-X doesn't really help with bloating. I need suggestions, bad!!! I'm tired of my stomach hurting. <_< Thanks :)

  7. Oops. Forgot to mention that I went the other day, so tired. They disagree that it was an asthma attack, since my lungs and x-rays were fine. They believed I had an anxiety attack. Had an EKG done and don't know the results of that yet.

If I keep dealing with the pain for a few more days, I'm going back to the doctor. I'll talk to my mom about the gall bladder possibility.

Thanks Robbie and Nantzie. I'll let you guys know how things go.

    -Ash :)

  8. Need some advice. Late Tuesday Night/Wednesday morning, I had started to have stabbing back pains, painful enough to make me cry out and wake my mom. Couldn't breathe so had to go to the ER. My face, above my eyes/eyelids, lips, and right hand began to turn blue. I lost feeling in that right hand and felt all tingly all over, a lot 'round my mouth too. All my stats showed that I had plently oxygen. Got a shot in the hip, some x-rays, and was told I had an asthma attack or hyperventilated. I've dealt with hyperventilating before, and never had these back pains. The ER doctor told they could be 'back muscle spams'. Slowly after the shot, I regain normal color and could breathe.

But, I'm still dealing with these back pains. I didn't fall, or do anything to make my back hurt. Tylenol or anything like doesn't help it all. It's still bothering me right now. It's nothing like the pain was the first time, but, it's gradually increased day-by-day. Should I worry about it?

  9. Grapes are a normal part of my diet. I at least eat them around three times a week. Never had a problem with them.

They took one of those prickley things on my arm for food sensitivies while they did needles for other allergies when I got tested for getting shots. My nutrientist told me that those tests aren't very acturate. Peas did show up, but, those are normal in my diet too.

I'll try all these suggestions when I can. I went to the ER last night. I had an asthma attack or hyperventilation, they can't say for sure. Back musle spasms happened, my face, above my eyes, lips and hands turned blue and I l ost feeling. Before that, I went to my post-op for sinus surgery and they had to break scaring trying to form over the cuts they made. It hurt like a lot of things I shouldn't say. I'm miserable right now and just need prayers.

  10. Well, I did have a reply but then realized something. I can't remember whether the pretzels I bought a couple weeks back were either Glutino or Glutano. If those were Glutino pretzels, I had no problem with them. Man...anyway, I did buy a box of Glutino's white cake mix. I haven't baked the cake yet, but, it claims on the box "Gluten/Wheat Free, Fat-Free, Cholestrol-free, and Trans Fatty Acids-Free." I can't find any information about whether or not it's processed on the same lines with foods with gluten or a website on the box.

Glutens are naturally-occurring proteins found in grains such as wheat, rye,

barley, and oats, but are not found in corn. The primary source of starch in

our formulations is corn. Relatively small amounts of other materials used in

our formulations may contain starch from other sources (e.g. potato, rice).

Thought this might be helpful

  12. You should go see your doc, cause he/she can prescribe miralax, which works really well if you take 1/2 the dose every morning, that is what i do every morning, and it works pretty well, haven't been to the ER for major laxatives snce.

Yep, I do the same. It works well. I've dealt with C WAY more than D. So, I know how you feel.

  13. There are no Whole Foods in Tennessee.

    Open Original Shared Link

While I have been to Knoxville a few times I have not tired eating out. Downtown can be pretty slow on weekends, at least when I have been there. Enjoy your time there.

We're getting one though in a few years in Nashville near the Wild Oats on Franklin Road.

Sorry I can't help. Last time I was there, I wasn't dxed with Celiac and really can't remember much about the food there anyway. I can tell you there are Wild Oats in Tennessee though.

  14. Carla- Thanks, absolutely will let ya know. Maybe that's my case. No matter what I do, I cannot get rid of this bloating...

Lister- That's what that nutritrionist lady told me! Love my memory. Really? I usually drink more liquid than what I eat  will give that a try.

Lorka- Not that I know of.

    -Ash

  15. I guess that would be helpful. My nutritrionist told me to add some yogurt in my diet (I can't even remember why now), and mostly avoid dairy for the most part. I don't get much, but this doughnut set my stomach on fire, I'm still hurting. Guess I'd be willing to try it for a week.

    Thanks Carla :)

  16. I just downed a small bowl full of grapes and a half of a kinnikinnick cinnamon sugar doughnut, which are gluten-free 'course. My stomach is hurting so bad, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the grapes. Anyone else not respond well to kinnikinnick? This bag confuses me, but, I think these are casein-free too ( I have had problems with diary, especially when I was a baby. I absolutely refuse to cut out dairy, I have a hard enough time with Celiac. I'd only cut it out if it did damage like Celiac. I do moderation with milk. Yeah I'm a hard head  )

    -Ash

  17. I've had similar things happen. The whole world has been offered when it comes to off-limit gluten-y goodness. Especially in my first block, they live off complete junk like doughnuts. I'm not really offended at all if someone offers me something. Usually I just tell them no thank you and don't even explain I have Celiac Disease. It kinda gets old explaining it. Sometimes I have to remind my friends that I can't have whatever they're offering, it goes over well.

    -Ash

  18. Went to the eye doctor, nothing wrong I have 20/20 eye sight, but my eyes do the weirdest things. I don't know if I'm blacking out, but, a lot of the times my sight will nearly completely black, I can only see about around the middle of my sight, I have no idea what this is but when I'm not dealing with that, my eye sight is vivid as ever!

    -Ash

  19. Yes, especially during the time I was suffering from Celiac undxed. A lot of times my vision would black out from getting up too fast. I've also gotten so dizzy and fatigued that I passed out. Now that I'm gluten-free, this has gone down tremendously.

    -Ash

  20. Yes I did note the "Cadet" but I figured the same rules applied to them too.

I knew someone who could not get into the Army reserve because of a medical problem, so they went to a different recruiter and got in!

So there is hope for you.

I think it will depend on what MOS (job series) you choose, or gets chosen for you.

I wish you luck and hope you can get in and eat gluten-free in the USAF!

For military acdemies, or unverisities it is. That sure does make me feel better and gives me hope!!!

I want be an aerospace engineer/pilot. Absolutely going to college before anything and taking ROTC no matter what.

    Thanks

    -Ash

  21. Ashley,

How do you stay in USAF as Celiac? MRE's aren't gluten-free!! Or do they gluten-free food? 15 years in Navy says that do NOT (especially on ships).

I work for Army now (civilian) and would have to eat gluten if I went to Baghdad - so I'm told.

I have DH so I could probably do that if I had to go for a week or so - because I would never give up that opportunity of a lifetime.

But does military allow Celiacs to be ACTDU? My husband says no. I say "maybe".......

The vote at work (by Army Officers) is "NO".

    What is it for you?

I can answer your question fairly easy, look at my name and rank down there. If you notice, it says 'cadet' infront of it. I'm a cadet for JROTC in highschool, if I was an actual servicewoman, I wouldn't have cadet infront of my rank. Yeah anyway, I've had a lot of people tell me I can't go into the service because of Celiac. I e-mailed the Air Force folks at their site and they say it is a disability. However, they say my medical recruiter or something ( can't remember, it was awhile ago when I did this) makes the final decision) I can only hope I can get in.

    -Ash

  22. Always read the label They like to change on ya :P Milkways aren't gluten-free, just to get that out of the way. You'd think they'd be gluten-free though...

Let's see, Pop Rocks are good, I think starbursts are okay too (but they have 'food starch-modified', never seen it said that way.), Ring Pops...a lot of the the gluten-free candies I think of have been listed, but, there's a ton of junk that's gluten-free out there.
