  1. Thanks so much for answering my questions. Sylvia is you reason for not using bulk bins bcause the scoop could cross contaminate? I had not thought of that. Is it in the milling process? How about the bins where they don't have a scoop, but you pour the stuff from above, so poeple can't get into it? Is that any better? Sylvia do you think then that boxed is completely safe? I'm still learning.

  2. Yes I get that one. I like it a lot. The only thing I thought was not so good was the article about the women and her yoggi in this month's. That pretty much discredits it if I wanted to show anything in it to my kids' school. I was kind of disappointed there. I don't think religion has its place in this magazine or dealing with celiac disease.

  3. Celiac Disease: Safe/Unsafe Food List and Essential Infornation On Living A Gluten Free Diet is the name of it. My husband bought it on Kindle. Some parts seen good and some seem extreme. She thinks the makeup of corn and rice has trace amounts of gluten in a protein and millet she says she doesn't know and all the studies were old on millet. But accorning to her, it is not on the safe list nor corn or rice.

Some of her cross contamination would make sense. But then how do you suggest we get quinoa or buckwheat? Can we not buy in bulk bin? This diet is financially killing us already.:( And we like bulk bin. Who knows how they test or process from Winco bulk bins? Do you shop from bulk bins? What do you think?

  4. My kids are going to a baffett dinner this week. The place has a cafe on the side. I was thinking about ordering from the cafe, but the people I've spoken with on the phone seem to be in a bit of a hurrey to get off the phone and say I'm sure we can occomodate you, but I don't feel they are really listening to me. I feel like calling one last time and seeing where I get a few hours before. But last time we went out I was sick for a month. Should I just give up for now on eating out? What do you think? Do I ask to speak to the cook? Last time I spoke to the waitress I still got sick and it was 100 dollar bill. lol

  5. Yesterday I read lots of things from an interesting site. Plug into your search engine "Dr. Alessio Fasano Articles and Publications". Then click on Youth Connection on the L. Then book mark this site. It will help you. The Celiac Spruce Foundation has a good letter for teachers also. I can relate to your story but on a smaller level. My son had a medical note turned in for behavior and food colorings form and signed by his Dr. His teacher tossed it aside. Said she did not believe in behavioral food allergies and fed him the food coloring treat 3/4ths the time. I could always tell on a day when she had. I'd say to my son, "They fed you red or blue cup cakes today didn't they?" He learned to beleive that his behavior is affected by what he eats when he could see that I could tell by how he was acting. I feel that the only kids to get real consideration are the ones with analphalactic issues. But what about the others?!

  6. The thing was in k he couldn't be trusted to stay away from the playground structure. The teacher was sick so took them out to free play most of the time. Frankly she didn't want to deal with it so sent him to the office. Finally the teacher had me pick him up at recess, lunch because she didn't want to watch him and the office personnel were tired of watching him. I think all the stress from that may have triggered celiac now that I think about it. So from previous poor treatment from the school, I worry about having to deal with them should my kids have celiac disease.

Thanks so much for your ideas. I'll keep you posted when I know their results.

  7. Yes But we are going to try to make it work here. Bringing in a gluton free treat does sound like a good idea. But I would want to teach my kids that it is gluton free and safe for them to eat. Whether the other kids understand that, it doesn't really matter. There is no limit on party day of what parents bring in. Maybe you'll get 15 cakes and ten boxes of cookies. And they let the kids eat all they want. So a not real safe place for a celiac kid. I really don't think my ds should be in there with soooo many treats and no one really going to tell him he can't have it. It would be better if there was a safe place he could go at school during party time that wouldn't seem like a punishment. I don't know what my rights are since we are out of district. I'm in CA. Does anyone know how I could find that out? No I'll not make an issue for lunch time. It is the very many parties and endless large cupcakes that are sent to school. And then most of those kids have a birthday party with more cake as well. Have any of your schools gone healthy eating for partis or have an alternative for cupcakes on birthdays? If so, is the infor on your school website. If you'd feel comfortable, please post. I don't think we can send private messages from this site. DD's class has been more health contious. The teachers or admin refuse to get involved and let the parents handle it. So they love endless junk in my son's seond grade class and less so in my dd's first grade. Maybe I could bring them in late after the party. I think the party is from 10:30-11:45. I don't think they would change the time.

If my 2 do test positive, what is the first step I should do? I don't think it is fair if they have it and the school keeps feeding it to them. Does anyone know of a printable flyer about celiac in kids that I could print and give to the school? I think they would group it with a hyper mom that doesn't want her kid to have sugar or add or something not very serious. I just anticipate ya ya don't impose your views on me attitude. We are happy how things are. Leave us alone. Would I call the principal, the teacher in and my husband for a meeting about what celiac is and how are we going to handle it? They say we have a school nurse that comes once a week for a few hours. I truly don't believe there is one.Sorry this is so long. I just want to have a plan should my fears be confirmed and they have it.

  8. In my heart, I think there is a good chance my kids have it. They will be tested in the next 3 weeks. I'm afraid their school will send them to the office to sit during one of the many school parties. I've talked to administration and they have no interest in making eating at school any healthier, nor did my son's teacher last year. This is a one school district. So no backup for help. We are guests in the district, so they could say if you want special treatment, go to your own school. It has lots of low education and crime. If this is the case, do I just pick them up early on party days or not send them to school? How do they accomodate your child if he has celiac disease?

Any helpful laws, books or sources that may help me? Anyone know anyone high up in education in CA that may be able to help me? When my son broke his leg at school, he sat in the office for 9 weeks during recess. That was also when he fell off the playground structure and had a cuncusion on the playground. I am burned out from them banishing him to the office. So if you attended a school that was good accademically but was as I describe, please suggest how you would approach the situation to get a result other than banishment to the office. My kids will be in first and second.

    Thanks so much.

  9. They are tall. DD has broken her arm twice and her finger and ds has broken his leg once. Could it be their bones are not as strong? They are both extremely hyper. DD is moody and always and I mean alway hungry. She says she feels like she is going to die. Drama queen. Ds has semifrequent stomach aches. They have both had on and off diahhreah the last 2 months. They have been playing with a lot of frogs in dirty water. They don't drink it but maybe they ingested some. I don't know if these sound like anything, but please let me know.

  10. I was diagnosed 4 months ago. I still have all the same symptoms except the constant diarreah. I had my mind make up until may friend told me to get my hormones checked. Another friend said check for a parasite. Someone on here suggested to check IgG or IgA mediated allergies. I don't know what that is. Does anyone know? I also have an enlarged tipped uterus. Could it be causing the pain? Ob thinks it is. So confused and frustrated. Is would be a partial hyst. Thanks so much for advice. Gastro thinks pains are an ob issue. Hubby works at a hospital and most of his coworkers have been happy with their result of their hyst. This is such a strange sutuation since I have celiac as well.
