  1. Keep pursuing this. It's not normal and you need to get to the bottom of it ASAP. We kept goofing around with antibiotics (at my own insistence.) until it was too late. I'm not trying to scare you. It might very well be a bad infection, but mine turned out to be cancer.
  2. Hmm...my affairs in order. OK. Alan on Sunday, Bob on Monday, Steve on Tuesday...Oh, not those affairs. OK, now that I've softened things with a lame joke, the doctor really did say that. Turns out I have terminal cancer. Lymph. "Very advanced". They say they can't cure me but they might (MIGHT) be able to prolong my life. No thanks. There's a reason...
  3. Even if you can never be tested for celiac, it would be a good thing to know if you have an actual allergy for two reasons. One, so you can get an epi pen in case you get exposed by accident. And two, so it can go into your medical record. If it's written in your record and you end up going to the hospital for any reason, they'll be really careful that they...
  4. If any Kraft product has gluten, either as an ingredient or used in processing, it will say so on the label. Kraft even goes so far that if they process gluten ingredients on the same line or facility, they will tell you. Kraft is a VERY trustworthy company. They are the good guys. I wish all companies had their policy. As far as modified food starch...
  5. Karen, when I first came here there were some awesome people who helped me. I truly believe they saved my life, and I know they saved my sanity. I stuck around because I am still learning, and because I wanted to pass it forward. I hope you too stick around. It won't be long before you will be helping newbies and passing out hugs to folks who feel as...
  6. Odds are they DO. Celiac runs in families and it is recommended that all first degree relatives (parents, children and siblings) of celiacs be tested every two years. You can't control what friends and family do in their houses but you must insist that NO gluten ever be brought into your house. If MY sister had brought it into my house the way yours...
  7. Yep, this IS the right place. For those who are wondering what this is all about, Karen replied to me personally on my profile page. She couldn't find this thread again, but I gave her a link so she could benefit from everyone's advice. Her gluten response seems to be DH or something similar. I mentioned iodine and sent her to the DH section. In...
  8. Karen, you told me you get the rash when you get glutened. Has the rash been diagnosed as DH? If so, it could be that iodine is making it worse. People with DH can get flares off and on for two years or more, even if they don't get glutened, and a diet high in iodine can make it worse. Go on over to the DH section here and read as much as you can. You'll...
  9. You can't get glutened by merely touching gluten. The molecule is too large to pass through the skin. Think about it - if touching gluten could get us sick, we'd ALL be sick all the time simply from going to the grocery store or visiting friends. The solution is to be diligent about washing your hands EVERY SINGLE TIME you plan on popping something into...
  10. Um, could I make a suggestion? If your husband is the only one in your home who consumes gluten, why not segregate his dishes and YOU wash them by hand? That way the kids can continue using the dishwasher for the gluten-free dishes, and you will be assured there is no contmination.
  11. Paper plates are fine. Trust me. How long has he been gluten-free? It could just be that he hasn't healed yet. Or it could be that he IS somehow getting CC at daycare. Perhaps it's as simple as touching the gluteny hands of a playmate, then putting his hand in his mouth. Or he could be getting it from a gluteny toy. How about his meds? Supplements...
  12. You may very well have actual celiac. It is the endoscopy, not the colinscopy that is used for diagnosis. The doctor takes biopsies of the small intestine. And because the small intestine is so large and the damage is often spotty, he may have missed the part that was damaged. But even is what you have is gluten sensitivity, it makes sense that your symptoms...
  13. I repeat, YOU are the one who claimed there could be 100 causes of abdominal pain such as you had. It astonishes me that you can insist that gluten CC is the only possible culprit. It also astonishes me that you have come onto this forum simply to argue with people for caring enough to make helpful and sensible suggestions. But if it DOES turn out to...
  14. Wow, Cycling Lady did not "diagnose" your pain as a gall bladder attack, she simply said it was something to think about. And let's face it, you have no proof at all that the Ortega product is what caused your abdominal pain. You said yourself that there are about 100 things that could cause it, so there is no way you can pin it on a product you ate once...
  15. My cat has been indoor only all her life. I have a screened in porch where she can go to THINK she's outside. Maybe you could install a kitty door that leads to an enclosed "run". If it opens on the outside too, you could put a litter box at the far end with a gate you could open to take care of cleaning it. Having a cat indoors will definitely cut down...
  16. Yes, you most likely breathed in some of the dust and swallowed it. Wear a mask or bandana or something, then exit the room.
  17. I for one am loving the "fad" because in my tiny town, it used to be the only place to get gluten-free substitutes was at the health food store. But now one of my local grocery stores has a nice gluten-free section with all kinds of great foods. (several breads, baking mixes, cookies, crackers, and lots of other stuff.) If not for the fad I doubt they would...
  18. BUT! There are several supersensitives here on this forum and not one of them has ever claimed to have a gluten reaction to Coke or Pepsi. That indicates that whatever you are reacting to gives you a reaction that is SIMILAR to a glutening, but it is not a true glutening.
  19. I've had the Barilla organic sauce and I eat Prego too. No problems with either. I've had tinkyada pasta and Ronzoni gluten-free pasta and loved them both. Like Arlene, I have been gluten-free for almost four years and have finally healed. Before that lots of things used to make me sick, even though they were gluten-free. Give it some time.
  20. I hope you didn't take offence, TGK112. If so I sincerely apologize. Sometimes my mouth (or typing fingers) engage before my brain.
  21. And if you want unwaxed but can only find the waxed kind, you could always strip it off with a pair of zercon encrusted tweezers. (Sorry, I'll behave now.)
  22. I never even would have considered it. It's wax put on something grown in Montana. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smZA9Jv3qH0&list=RDsmZA9Jv3qH0
  23. OK, it won't be for dinner but my big meal is lunch - I just had some lasagna that a gluten-free friend sent over. Her whole house is gluten-free so I know it was safe, and WOW! Was it good! She used the tinkyada noodles and it had meat and two different cheeses and mushrooms and who knows what else in it. It was the first lasagna I've had in four years....
