Rice Is Making Us Sick!
bartfull replied to Angelmomh2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Because I have such a problem with CORN, I checked the rice companies to make sure there was no corn CC. (Some companies "polish" rice with corn starch.) I wrote to Uncle Ben's, explained I was a celiac who was also "allergic" to corn. They followed up with both an email AND a phone call. No gluten. No corn. I have been using Uncle Ben's for almost three... -
Believe it or not, Milk of Magnesia makes a GREAT deodorant. COMPLETELY kills any odor and is very mild on the skin. I keep a bottle with just a tiny pin hole in the foil seal, and I put it on an old powderpuff to apply. It takes a few minutes to dry, but it's worth it not to be putting aluminium and other nasty chemicals on my skin.

I don't have DH, but the pictures look like it (to me). Actually, what I'm doing here is posting to bring this thread back to the top so that some of our DH victims will see it and respond. I hope you get some answers soon. (((((HUGS)))))) to you and your little one.

Searching For Fellow Celiac Roommate -- Where To Post?
bartfull replied to Philia's topic in Meet Up Room
I understand wanting to keep internet privacy, but if you post what state you live in, maybe folks here who live in that state can send you PM's to find out if you're in their area. -
Anyone Eaten Domino's Gluten-Free Pizza Recently?
bartfull replied to Veghead1234's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Eating nothing that you didn't make yourself is a bit of a pain, but it's not that bad. When traveling, bring an electric skillet or a George Foreman grill. Most motel rooms have fridges and microwaves so it is easy to shop at a grocery or health food store in whatever town you're in and do your own cooking. And it's easy to eat at a friend's house. Just... -
Anyone Eaten Domino's Gluten-Free Pizza Recently?
bartfull replied to Veghead1234's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
There ARE some pizza places that do gluten-free right, but Domino's is not one of them. The gluten-free pizza place near me has a family member with celiac so they know about CC. They make their gluten-free pizza in a seperate room using seperate pans, utensils and sauce from a seperate pot. The Udi's frozen pizza is good. Against the Grain makes a totally... -
I drink Folgers every day at the shop. (I save the Dunk's for home.) I've never had a problem with either.

I heard on "The People's Pharmacy" on NPR this morning that 22 people die in this country EVERY DAY due to medical mistakes. TWENTY-TWO people EVERY DAY! And one of the reasons is that everyone in the medical profession from doctors to nurses to medical technicians have to take a VOW to never say ANYTHING negative about any doctor, even if they know he/she...

That's why I read every ingredients label, every time. I even read the label on both packages when I am buying two of the same item. One might be an older package, and one might be newer. The newer package MIGHT have different ingredients because companies often change ingredients based on price and availability. Paranoid? You bet! But I don't get glutened...

YvetteLynn (love your name, by the way - I have a beloved cousin by the same name) What was said was this: "Kraft clearly labels all gluten containing ingredients". The "clearly" is just a way to kind of praise Kraft because they ARE so clear in their labelling. There are other companies who will only declare wheat because it is one of the top eight allergens...

Has Anyone Had Success With Dr. Kharrazian's Methods/testing?
bartfull replied to Zibby's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I agree 1000%! Where I live it seems everyone goes to the chiropractor. And they go over and over again. Even for bone problems, I think they do more harm than good. When you get "adjusted" frequently, all you are doing is stretching the ligaments so they no longer keep things in place. And there is one quack here who insists he can "cure" celiac disease... -
Most companys are switching over from BPA plastics to the corn-based stuff. BPA's are bad for us anyway, so I just avoid all canned food now.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot to ask if you have any problems with corn. If so, it might be the lining of the cans. They are now lining some cans with the new corn-based plastic. Crazy as it sounds, if you are intolerant to corn, it'll get you.

If you can tolerate plain yogurt you could try mixing a bit of that in the tuna instead of mayo. I promise, it'll taste good.

My stepdaughter went to school with a kid whose last name was Case, so of course his mother named him Justin. But the bad part was, every time she'd take him somewhere she would announce in a VERY loud voice, "Just in case you were wondering, Justin Case is here!" The kid is grown up now. I wonder if he even speaks to his mother anymore.

If you can stick with it long enough, you might well get a lot of these foods back. I got corn starch back and potatoes too. I bet there are other things I lost at first that I could safely eat again. I haven't tried them all yet. If you think, "I'll never be able to eat these things again" it will tear you up. If you think of it as only temporary, you...

Oooh! I forgot all about him! I guess I'M the one with glutenhead!
-
OK, I was waithing for someone else to chime in, but I guess they didn't notice. GottaSki (and the rest of you) must be suffering from glutenhead right now because she forgot - it's BJ, not TJ. Sorry, I just had to say it.

50%. That means the kid can have a sandwich made with one slice of Udi's and one slice of Wonderbread? Or maybe it means the kid only has celiac from the waist down? Celiac on Monday's, Wednesday's, Friday's, and from noon to midnight on Saturday's?
-
You know, with celiac being in the news so much lately, you'd think doctors would "brush up" on it. I fear that those who do just go back to the books they studied when they were in medical school rather than getting the LASTEST information. And that makes me wonder, what OTHER diseases and conditions do doctors not keep up on? No wonder we are taking...

"it's All In Your Head!"
bartfull replied to bartfull's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
But if you consider that most doctors spend less than 15 minutes with a patient during an office visit, that 1.5 (8 hour) days with each patient at Mayo equals approximately 48 office visits. The Mayo clinic in Rochester Mn. is in my opinion, the very best medical center in the country. I know many people who have gone there after all the other doctors... -
"it's All In Your Head!"

When I was a kid I thought (along with doctors and other family members) that my Mom was a hypocondriac. One day she would complain of a stomach ache. The next day she would complain of a back ache. The day after that her feet were tingling. At least twice a week she complained of headaches. Mom had a king-sized case of chronic insomnia, and she also suffered... -
Thanks. It is very painful, but the good news is that as long as I stay away from gluten, soy, most forms of corn, and foods high in salicylates, it goes away completely.

I have palmoplantar pustular psoriasis. It only shows up on the palms of my hands and around the heels and bottoms of my feet. There is also a generalized pustular psoriasis that can show up on any part of the body. In both cases, the pustules look like whithead pimples. After a day or three they turn into little red spots. As they heal, the skin will crack...
