  1. Okay here's the deal...I spent about an hour on the phone w/ them but did not get through their entire product list b/c they have to look up the ingredients to each product and it takes a lot of time. I nicely & strongly encouraged them to create a "Safe List" to avoid the painful "look up" process for them and us...not sure if they'll compile one or not. So.....with that said, below is a list of gluten-free products that I did get.....I myself need a drink to recover from all the products I am going to have to discontinue using....HA!

    Shampure

    Pure Abundance

    Clove

    Camomile

    Black Malva

    Blue Malva

    Madder Root

    Shampoos SAFE to use:

    Sap Moss

    Brilliant

    Damage Remedy

    Scalp Benefits

    Color Conserve

    Rosemary Mint

    Hair Detoxifier

    Blue Malva

    Madderoot

    Pure Abundance

Brilliant (this one has "rice bran" and "oat bran" in it so i'm thinking it's a no-no??? anyone else know??)

    Conditioners SAFE to use:

    Scalp Benefits

    NOT safe on lips:

    Eruku Lip

    Lip Color Concentrates

    Lip Glazes

    Lip Replenishment

    Lip sheer

    SAFE Lip Stuff:

    Lipsaver is SAFE!!!!!!

Witch Hazel Hair Spray (this has "rice bran" in it, anyone know if this is okay????)

The Damage Remedy INTENSIVE Restructing Treatment is also safe. However, the lady on the phone said to PAY ATTENTION when/if you buy this product b/c MANY people have accidentally gotten the Damage Remedy Conditioner instead and the conditioner is NOT gluten-free only the Intensive Restruct Treatment is gluten-free.....

  2. Thanks so much for sharing....this looks easy and maybe something I won't destoy. One of these days maybe i'll have something cool to share...until then i'll continue on w/ blowing up mixers and having muffins and bread come out flat. HAHA! I am still in phase 101 of gluten-free cooking....HAHA!

  3. Wanted to follow up with you again and let you know that I drove through Smithfield today. The only hotels are just standard hotels...no extended stay type places. I asked around at work b/c I have several people that are from the Smithfield area and they too could not think of anything other than the standard hotels. I looked for additional hotels one exit up and one exit down from Smithfield but they didn't have squat to offer. Sorry!! Let me know if I can help you any further or bring you some gluten-free food to eat...HAHA!

    Good Luck,

    Turtle

  4. Hey!

I currently live in Wilson, NC (just outside of Smithfield) but have also lived in Raleigh and Angier over the past few years which are also outside of Smithfield. Unfortunately, I have not had ANY luck w/ eating out in any of these areas & have stopped eating out all together b/c of cross contamination. Of course Outback has a gluten-free menu so you may be able to locate one of those nearby via their website. And there is a PF Changs at Crabtree Mall in Raleigh but I haven't tried it. Please note that these places may be farther than you would like to drive.

In terms of stores to shop at for gluten-free food. I have to commute to Raleigh for this myself. There is a Whole Foods in Raleigh, NC (it's a good 45min from Smithfield give or take) and i've also had some luck at some of the local Krogers in the Raleigh area for gluten-free items.

When I travel I try to book a room that has a kitchenette in it so I can do some of my own cooking. YES, this requires some preplanning & can be a pain but it's worth it so I can eat something decent. I keep a rubbermaid tuff bin thing w/ a pot, pan and some utensils in it that is my "gluten-free travel bin". Sounds crazy but it really pays off. I then add to the bin gluten-free foods, etc. so I can prepare food while away from home.

I also always pack a cooler w/ gluten-free foods, including some premade things that I can simply warm up in the microwave. I sometimes take my small foreman w/ me too so I can make some grilled cheese sandwiches or turkey burgers or whatever on it.

Hope this helps....e-mail me at turtledupree@hotmail.com if you need directions to anywhere or if I can be of more help! GOOD LUCK!

  5. I too have had this headache issue. I talked to my DR about it and his concern was CROSS CONTAMINATION.....My dr has encouraged me to not eat out at all & really watch my own kitchen to assure everything is gluten-free for the next 3 months to see if there is any improvement so he can determine whether this is a CC issue or something else. He also recommended for me to continue w/ massage therapy to assist w/ any stress in the neck and back. If you can't afford massage therapy like myself, look into a massage school in your area. I go to the one near me and it's only $30 for an hour. So far i've only had headaches once or twice....It's been my understanding from my DR and from many people on this board that Cross Contamination can be the culprit in a lot of cases....hope this is helpful and hope you feel better soon!

  6. Thanks so much. I have continued to look into this and I have found two different responses on their website....

    The first one says:

Q: Is Dannon yogurt gluten free?

A: We no longer use the term gluten free with respect to our yogurts. Instead we separate our products into gluten safe or not gluten safe categories, depending on the specific brand of Dannon yogurt. DANNON Plain yogurts (Lowfat, Nonfat and Natural) are all gluten safe. However, all other Dannon yogurts cannot be designated as gluten safe because the natural flavor systems used might have ingredients added to stabilize the flavor. The stabilizing ingredients may be derived from gluten sources. Consumers may also wish to visit the following Web site: www.celiac.com.

Q: Is DanActive gluten free or gluten safe?

A: DanActive Plain is gluten safe.

The second one says (this one came from a brochure they have on their website):

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, oats, rye and barley. DANNON yogurt products are not formulated to contain gluten, but they cannot be considered gluten free. This is because the natural flavor system used might have ingredients used to stabilize the flavor. These ingredients can be derived from gluten sources. Since there is a current lack of consensus on individual sensitivity levels to gluten and there are no accurate tests to detect the presence and amount of gluten, DANNON'S prodcuts cannnot be classified as "gluten free".

SOOOOO confusing these companies can be.....AGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!

  7. Not sure if anyone has posted about this or has even heard about it. The actual store is located outside of Atlanta in the Alpharetta/Roswell-ish area. They do have an online site where you can buy things from too. Here's the links:

    www.thewellnessboutique.com

www.thewellnessbroker.com (this is the site w/ the online store, click on gluten-free foods for their inventory)

  8. Just curious if anyone is on Weight Watchers and how it's panning out w/ having to be on a gluten-free diet???

I was on Weight Watchers several years ago and did well. But then I found out I was a Celiac (gluten-free since May 1, 2005) and since my body has started to absorb vitamins and nutrients normally the pounds are creeping back on....I've read this is common, but I REFUSE to be large and in charge again. It's bad enough having different sizes of clothes in my closet to accomodate for the days i'm swollen/bloated but I just can't deal w/ having to buy bigger clothes b/c i'm gaining weight....

Anyhow, would love to hear from anyone on Weight Watchers and your experience w/ being on a gluten-free diet as well. Thanks!
