  1. I am out of town and ate at Outback tonight....the staff was VERY nice and accomodating, asking lots of questions to assure they wrote down my order correctly, etc. The waitress said they even had a recent meeting to reiterate the importance of making sure if someone is ordering off the gluten-free menu to double check everything, etc. HOWEVER, I still got glutened from something...does anyone know if the seasoning on the steaks if gluten-free? The manager asked me if I wanted the seasoning on the steak and since i'm still new at all this I did not follow the golden rule of "when in doubt go without" and i'm wondering if that's the glutened culprit. I guess the other problem could have been if it was really cooked on a clean grill? Anyhow, just wanted to share and see if anyone had any input or feedback.

  2. I too can hear the faint sound of what sounds like a tv, radio, etc. on when the house is quiet. I ask my BF if he can hear it and he looks at me like i'm nuts. I also will get up to see if it's coming from the computer (my BF likes to listen to music when on the computer). To make myself feel better I blame it on the neighbors, although I know it's not them. HA! This "hearing issue" started around the same time I started the gluten-free diet...I kid you not. Weird isn't it??

I am sensitive to when the tv or radio is TOO loud but that's been going on for years as well as I have have the sensitivity to light (they say b/c I have light colored eyes and wear contacts....

    This is pretty interesting...

  3. Hi

I was wondering if anyone uses Tamari Soy Sauce??? Supposedly it's gluten-free but I've used it a few times and end up w/ glutened symptoms...just curious if anyone had any input.

Also, is coffee something you have to check w/ each manufactor about? I'm talking about already ground up coffee you buy at the store, not coffee that you get at Starbucks, etc.

    Thanks!!

  4. My first "I got glutened" experience occured today.

It was from Stoneyfield Flavored Yogurt. I never realized until after the fact that their flavored yougurts have "traces of gluten" in them. For some reason I thought they were "safe". Oops! AMAZING how just that little "trace" can make someone w/ Celiac so sick and boy was I ever sick....Lesson learned! I will never cheat on my Yoplait yogurt again. HA!

  5. I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I'm going through the same thing. I'm exhausted all the time and like you I too rely on my weekends to regroup, catch up on sleep, rest and give my body a break so I can tackle another week. I too have used tons of sick leave and I am having to reserve days for REALLY bad days. I'm also frustrated at times for having to always explain myself to everyone. It's nice to at least come here and read that i'm not alone in my symptoms, feelings, etc. Hang in there! My new philosophy is if they really care about me and my health then my friends, family, co-workers, etc. will at least make an effort to understand and not always treat me like an alien. My goal is to get healthy and I have come to realize that means I have to practice taking better care of myself (which I am bad at doing but improving on since being diagnosed w/ celiac disease). So hang in there and good luck!

  6. I am having this issue too. I was diagnosed in April, began the gluten-free diet on May 1st and since then my moods are up and down. It drives me nuts b/c I feel so out of control. I try to exercise (walking, bike riding, etc.) which helps some....I know that many people go on meds for this (or that's what i've read). For me, I want that to be a last resort. Feel free to e-mail me if you want. Maybe we can vent to each other as a way to cope. I feel for ya!

  7. After reading the discussion on the board as to whether or not Coke Products are gluten-free or not, I decided to contact my parent's best friends/neighbors b/c Mr. Tom not only works for Coca-Cola but they eat gluten-free. His response was this:

"All coke products are gluten-free in the U.S. However, Some products sold in Japan are not."

I feel pretty confident about the response as Mr. Tom and his wife follow the gluten-free diet right down to Christmas Eve dinner that we share w/ them every year. They have even gone so far as to teach my mom about what she can cook for them and what not to serve, etc. (my mom likes to have them over for dinner often). I was just recently diagnosed, but they have been eating gluten-free for several years now. But hey, how lucky for me to have my mom already go through basic gluten-free training so maybe she'll still cook for me when I come to visit HAHA. Anyhow, I can't imagine his response being incorrect. Does anyone have any other info? I'm sure he'd be willing to look into any concerns we have.

  8. I too decided to hold off....I'd rather use the $ to buy some of those Pamela's gluten-free brownie mix. HAHA!

Plus I did a little more research and read that you should really see a dietician instead of a nutritionist. Either way, i'm currently satisfied w/ all that I learn here...and it's fun and friendly and the best part....I don't have to sit in traffic to get to you guys! YIPPEE!!
