I'm sitting here in ATL visiting my parents and we're going to the lake tomorrow and my mother gives me her run down about how she made gluten-free potato salad, some kimd of gluten-free broccoli salad, that she has chips and salsa, fruit, etc. I brought gluten-free brownies and a few other things so I fill her in on that.
Well.........Do you know that she then looks at me and says "why don't you thaw out some of "your" bread and you can have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich". ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? We just discussed all the great gluten-free foods you've made and you're offering me a PB&J on my thawed out gluten-free bread???
She then says "well if PB&J isn't what you really want we could swing by the grocery store and get you some turkey from the deli"......CUKOO, CUKOO
I took it upon myself to tell her about this thread....
Just another example of people NOT getting it....HAHA!

I'd call it "Medical Neglect"

GOOD! I'm so glad to hear that Outback is at least taking the time to look into their gluten-free menu closer. I love their food but have quit eating there b/c everytime i'd get sick (and i've tried several different locations, in different cities even). Hopefully they will get things straight soon, educate their kitchen and wait staff and then we can get back to enjoying a nice fat juicy steak (or whatever your preference is)!!
Thanks Outback!

That is a decent price. I got some in Charlotte NC and it was $10 a six. Won't be drinking too much at that price. The retailers in some places must have it confused with gasoline!
Tom
I had to go to Charlotte too to find beer! I too paid $10 a six....OUCH!

Someone just sent me an e-mail saying that M&M's in all forms are not gluten free?? Just wondered if anyone has any current information stating otherwise...
I always thought M&M's (except for the crispy rice kind) were safe. Please tell me they haven't "changed their ingredients" on us.....
And while we're on the topic of CHOCOLATE....
Does anyone know if the Hershey Kisses (w/ peanut butter) are gluten-free?? I've confirmed that regular and dark chocolate hershey kisses are okay but haven't yet had a chance to call about the peanut butter ones. Thougth i'd check w/ you guys.

Hey Sara!
Thanks for posting! So exciting to FINALLY find some other celiacs around here.
I too have heard and actually passed by 14carrots. Haven't been in there yet though. The name alone screams expensive...get it? 14carrots??? 14 carats???
Jean:
In Charlotte I like Talley's Green Grocery and they also have an Earthfare (I haven't been to that one though b/c I went to Talley's instead the last time I was up there & b/c I hit the really NICE AND BIG Earthfare in Charleston a few weekends ago). Also, I've heard the SuperTarget out in Morrisville has some gluten-free stuff way less expensive than what we pay for things at EarthFare, Whole Foods, etc. Here's the contact info:
Talley's Green Grocery
1408 East Blvd Ste C
Charlotte, NC 28203

** Talley's has the thing where you can apply for their MVP card thingy like you do at Food Lion, Piggly Wiggly, etc. and you can get things at the sale price.

I thought I was the only celiac in all of SC! HAHA!
COOL, that is great news that there is a group in W Cola & thank you for shooting me the info tomorrow or whenever you can so I can see what's happening. Sorry it tends to focus on adults...bummer! Maybe your daughter could be the pioneer for a teen group??? Just a thought....
Yes, I swing thru Earthfare for the bare essentials! It just gets so expensive....there's a bit of competition in Charlotte so sometimes prices are a bit lower & I have friends who live there so it's a mini vacation for me to get away for the day to shop gluten-free and see my friends
When you shoot me the support group info, fill me in about Rosewood Market...never heard of it....but then again i'm still learning the area so Go Figure! HA!
Thank you again!

Hey!
I live in W Cola and have been going to Charlotte for better selection of gluten-free foods and for support. Is there a support group in W Cola that you've been attending?? I'd love to talk to you further....i'm still relatively new to this area and am desperately seeking a dr. Was planning to just go to Charlotte but if you have some info i'd love to hear more...
Have a great weekend!

Thank you for your interest in Brach's and for contacting us about the
gluten free status of our Brach*s candy products. For your information, we
do not consider any of our products gluten free at the present time. Please
be advised that we do plan to undertake a project to determine the gluten
status of each and every one of our products.
Thanks again for contacting us.
Yours truly,

The celiac community showed its strength and Congress passed a landmark food allergen labeling bill. Now, it's time to take on the health insurance
companies.
A major project of the American Celiac Disease Alliance (ACDA) is working
with insurance companies to provide reimbursement for dietician services.
Your help is needed to demonstrate there are many individuals with celiac
disease and almost ALL can benefit from the services of a registered
dietician. The ACDA has prepared a brief online survey to find out which
companies are covering dietician services and which are not. The survey
results will be used to educate insurance companies about WHY such services
are so vital.
Please participate in the survey by going to our online advocacy site -
www.capwiz.com/celiac . (Complete the survey just once, please.)
An earlier version of this survey was provided to attendees at the GIG annual
conference and may have been distributed to some support groups. If you
completed that survey, it's ok to take this survey, too.
If your support group has a website, feel free to link to the ACDA Advocacy
site to make it easier for your members to participate in the survey.
While you are at the advocacy site, don't forget to add your name to the
Action-E List to get updates on breaking news affecting the celiac
community.

I sure hope it's gluten-free b/c I just had 2 rounds of the stuff this past week...although mine was the generic form fluconozal (spelling??). I am FINALLY feeling a bit better but it took a week to get rid of the stuff. I hate yeast...stupid celiac!
Keep us posted if you find out anything new or different. I'll do the same!
And I CANNOT believe they told you to buy Aveeno....![:o](//www.celiac.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png)
