Seeking Advice, I May Have Celiac
squirmingitch replied to DeviD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Read this, it will help you keep from getting cross contaminated as well as give some fantastic tips. Old Tupperware is fine if it isn't scratched. Now, don't expect miracles right off the bat. It doesn't work that way. AND it can be very much like a roller coaster for 6 months or even a year. Good days & bad days so stay the course &...- 17 replies

Gliadin IGA 78
squirmingitch replied to Elli-'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Always. always, always, always have gluten-free food with you, ALWAYS. Hard boiled eggs, fruits, cheese, raw veggies make great snacks. Never leave home without gluten-free food on you.- 6 replies

Test results
squirmingitch replied to Tko2341's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We would need the ranges on those lab #'s b/c not all labs have the same #'s. However, however, however, generally, normal lab #'s don't get any where near what you posted so yes, it does look like you're way over the top. Another however, the gold standard is positive blood work PLUS positive endoscopic biopsy. You need to call your doc & ask if he... -
WHAT. CAN. I. EAT.
squirmingitch replied to meganhope's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am guessing you have a microwave in your room? Veggies in a microwave bowl with lid, add a little water or butter & nuke them. They will be much easier to digest when cooked. You can nuke chicken too. You could get some bullion & dice some chicken & some veggies, add water & make a nice chicken-vegetable soup. Same with beef. PB&J sammies... -

Well Yvonne, we're still alive, so proof that you can cope & the dh will eventually go away. Yes, the burning..... Many have complained about it. I had it. I think it burned the worst on/in my ears. Felt like they were on fire. Ice pack my dear, ice packs.- 15 replies

How Soon After Eating Gluten Do You Have Breakouts?
squirmingitch replied to zzzzlm456's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Sorry, but there's no real answer to that. Everyone is different & I think a lot depends on how long you went undiagnosed & therefore how many antibodies were hiding under your skin, how long you've been strict gluten free, how sensitive you are and probably more variables enter the picture. I am ultra, ultra, unbelievably sensitive but did... -
It sure sounds to me like you got glutened. I'm so sorry! Most likely it was the Melting Pot. I'd pretty much stake everything on that.

Anyone found a GOOD gluten-free pizza ?
squirmingitch replied to Cheerymarie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Against The Grain Pizza. Use a pizza pan -- not a cheap one but a good one that has holes in the bottom. -
Antibodies still super high?
squirmingitch replied to SahiraHyena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had no idea you were vegan. No one here is going to tell you that you have to eat animals or animal products. It is going to be hard though to get all your proper nutrition without buying supplements which I understand you can't afford. I'm sorry but I don't understand what you were eating before you were diagnosed that was so much cheaper than whole... -
Beverages Most beverages are gluten-free, including juices, sodas, and sports drinks. Alcoholic beverages, including wines and hard liquor/distilled liquors/hard ciders are also gluten-free. However, beers, ales, lagers, malt beverages and malt vinegars that are made from gluten-containing grains are not distilled and therefore are not gluten-free. There...

Confused
squirmingitch replied to Donna1970's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Just to clarify, in the US, all ingredient labels are required by LAW to list wheat as it is one of the top 8 allergens. If the modified food starch is from wheat then it MUST state wheat in the ingredient list. People in the US should not be afraid of modified food starch in an ingredients list. That used to be an issue years & years & years ago... -
Confused
squirmingitch replied to Donna1970's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Unfortunately this happens all too often. The doc doesn't know what they're doing, tells the patient to "try" gluten free for a month & afterward will refer for testing. Testing after having been gluten free, requires a "gluten challenge" which is eating gluten every day for 12 weeks for the blood tests. Celiacs, almost always have much, much stronger... -
Antibodies still super high?
squirmingitch replied to SahiraHyena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is excellent advice!!!! Also, you said you can't afford a whole food diet. What??????? Do you understand what a whole food diet is? It does not mean to go grocery shopping at the stores called "Whole Foods". It quite simply means no processed food. It means fresh meats, fish, veggies, fruits, dairy, eggs, beans & non gluten grains such as rice... -
Biopsy negative?
squirmingitch replied to LSB's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You have not included any ranges for the serum tests. Each lab is different so ranges need to be posted so we can tell if they were positive or negative. Were you gluten free for 5 days prior to the serum panel? On the endoscopy, how many biopsies were taken & from what areas?. -
Jamie, Have you tried bone broth? Home made bone broth that is. It is extremely easy on the gut, quite healing, unbelievably nourishing. Check out these two articles: https://wellnessmama.com/5888/bone-broth/ http://nourishedkitchen.com/bone-broth/

New microwave needed?
squirmingitch replied to Ga3's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you wash that microwave inside & out with soap & water, there won't be any problem using it. If gluten is still being used in it, then make sure you cover whatever gluten-free stuff you put in it. You DO need a new toaster though. -
Don't get offended, no one is honking on you. It was just a reminder that this was a very old thread & if you expected the poster to be around reading & responding, it probably won't happen.
