  1. You quit eating gluten. You have to keep eating gluten every single day EVEN for the dh biopsy.
  2. Since dh is celiac disease, one can have any & all symptoms of celiac disease. I had migraines for 30 years that went away after being gluten-free for a while. Mind screaming pain in bones & joints. Lots of neurological issues. Swelling. Muscle tics. Skin pain & burning. Hot flashes, depression, brain fog -- extreme brain fog!, nausea, vertigo...
  3. Welcome to the club you never wanted to be a member of. I'm glad you actually, finally got a diagnosis. A dx of dh IS a dx of celiac disease. DH is the skin presentation of celiac disease. NO, there is no such thing as non celiac dh. If you have dh, you have celiac. Triggers to avoid...... iodine can make the rash flare severely. This does not...
  4. I have never run across a cheese that is labeled gluten free but I also have never run across a cheese that contains gluten. You just look at the ingredients list. Here is a link to Kraft and how they label gluten on their products. http://www.kraftrecipes.com/healthy-living-ideas/articles/food-safety/label-reading-for-gluten-information.aspx
  5. Are Blue Diamond products "gluten free?" Most of our products do not contain ingredients derived from wheat or other gluten grains. The following Blue Diamond products contain gluten: Jordan Almonds Wasabi & Soy Sauce Flavored Almonds Do you use "soy" in your products? ...
  6. Better late than never Gem? Nahhhhh, it needed to be a long time ago but we also know it wasn't for lack of you trying. So again, we're back to better late than never. Let us know how it goes please. Ennis, I hope your mom makes a turn around too. Good that you kept on her & she's going to get tested.
  7. You have to be eaten gluten every single day until the endoscopy is done.
  8. Just to let you know. This thread is really old, it's from 2010. None of those people are still here.
  9. OY! I don't know what they have in Canada, but here in the US, it's a 504 plan (I think that's the #) that is designed to be all inclusive throughout the school so that all teachers & administration know. You should check if you haven't already, & see what Canada has. They must have something. As to the school bus, oy, yoy, yoy; that's a sticky wicket...
  10. When you went to doctor #1, the blood tests were likely false negative b/c you had been gluten free. One has to do a 12 week gluten challenge for blood work. As far as endoscopy, most say a 2 week gluten challenge. That is consuming a slice of bread, or a couple crackers or a bowl of pasta every single day for the 2 weeks. Did you? As far as GI #2, dh...
  11. Thanks for that info. I checked & there's no way for me to get it down here in FL, USA
  12. Read this Newbie 101. It will help you with issues like cross contamination. No, I don't know of anything other than celiac that would elevate the DGP IgG but I am not an expert. I know other things can affect the IgA. The DGP IgG is what most kids ring the bells on and most adults do not but we do have a few members who oddly enough, only test...
  13. Kraft mini marshmallows or even the big ones are fine. Kraft is a very trusted company so you can always feel safe with them. They will disclose any gluten ingredients in no uncertain terms. Same with UniLever.
  14. That DGP IgG is very high! As far as a gluten challenge goes, he shouldn't have to have any more of the blood work in light of the very high positive he had. That would require a 12 week challenge. OY! So he should only (that word is relative) need to do a 2 week challenge for an endoscopy. I am so glad you stuck with pursuing & advocating. Moms...
  15. Ellie!!!!!!!!!! has found a great doc in NYC. His name is Dr. Andrew Blank in NYC. You can see her post in this thread:
  16. Oh you're so welcome! Yes, it can be hard with pre-teens or teens when that happens. They always think they're smarter don't they? Well, we did the same to our parents. Long, long ago, they thought that if you went gluten free for 10 years then you were cured & could eat gluten again but then discovered that is NOT true. Back prior to that, back...
  17. Ohhhhhhh, so sorry. I didn't look at the ingredients on that one. So they have changed the white bread as well huh? Bummer! I know the new Multigrain is harder to get the slices separated without breaking them. I think part of the problem is the slices are not as thick.
  18. They still have the white on their website. It's the whole grain that is no longer on the website.
  19. I am pretty sure Udi's has discontinued the old one. It was called Whole Grain, the new is called Multigrain. I can't eat any gluten-free flours b/c of oat cc but my hubs just got the new Udi's Multigrain on Saturday. So far, so good with him. For myself, I make these: https://comfybelly.com/2013/08/sandwich-rounds-using-almond-flour/#.WSi668aB...
  20. Our reactions to gluten can & do often change over time. Yes, it's possible for her, at this point, to seemingly not react to gluten exposure but that does not mean that damage to the gut is not being done. It does not sound like the initial dx was incorrect what with blood work/ endoscopic biopsies, vitamin/mineral deficiencies. Has she had blood...
  21. And it bugs the life out of me that you said what I posted bugs the life out of you. Ohhhhhhhh Myyyyyyyyy Gawdddddddd! I actually posted a recipe that contains - GASP! dairy!!!!!! Flay me with a cat o' nine tails!!!!!! Dairy can be an issue with some of us but is by no means a given. There are plenty of us who never had a problem with dairy. Yes, celiac...
  22. Don't forget to laugh. Laughing is a big part of keeping your sanity. Just keep meals as simple as possible for a while. Easy, fast & simple. Crock pot meals, instant pot if you have one. When I come home from the store, I wash & cut veggies such as broccoli & cauliflower & throw them in a ziplock baggie. That way they are ready to go...
  23. Yes, one can present with celiac at any time in life. You said a colonoscopy...... that can not dx celiac. An endoscopy is what they use. They biopsy the small intestine. Get copies of the labs & pathology report. The small intestine, when splayed out flat, is the size of a tennis court. it is easy to miss damage with that kind of a surface area. That...
  24. And do be sure to get yourself, your hubby & the other kids tested even in the absence of symptoms as celiac can present at any age. If anyone shows symptoms then have them tested right away. For testing, the patient must have been eating gluten daily for 12 weeks if they have been gluten free but 1 slice of bread or a cracker or cookie is enough daily...
