Off prednisone.. rash returned
squirmingitch replied to Jlewisrn's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
If you don't stop getting glutened then you're going to continue to get the rash if it's dh. I'm sorry but trying to avoid gluten is not good enough; you absolutely MUST not eat any gluten. So you ate the Lindor chocolates without reading the ingredients. Bad move. We have a mantra: READ EVERY LABEL EVERY TIME And if you have dh, then you are celiac... -
You're so welcome! Overly emotional. Um, yeah, actually lots of us with celiac disease can be overly emotional when we've been glutened. It's a feature! Woo hoo! Not to mention the fact that this is all very new to you & it does tend to make you feel like your life has just been turned upside down. Realize too that your friends & family...

Welcome Bananas! We will talk to you! I think family often doesn't want to talk about it or believe it because 1) they never heard of it before 2) can't believe bread could make you sick - I mean everybody eats bread right? 3) it's the last thing they want to hear because they realize they could also have it & you wouldn't believe the # of people in...

Could I have celiac’s?
squirmingitch replied to Katieann24's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You should get tested. Be SURE to continue eating gluten until ALL testing is complete! If your insurance allows it, then make sure you get the FULL celiac serum panel rather than just a 2 test screening. Here is the full panel: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated... -
6 years into this journey
squirmingitch replied to Renaye's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wonderful news Renaye!!!! I am so happy for you and thanks so much for posting this news. I know it will give a lot of people hope. -
Do you have copies of your celiac blood panel? You should get them if you don't have them. this is true of all medical records. From that you would be able to tell which blood tests in the full panel that he did. There are actually 6 but often only 1 or 2 get done as a screening measure. Sometimes your insurance will not pay for more than just the 1 or 2...

13 is a hard age in the first place. 13 & a girl is even worse. So much pressure on them. Well, she found out didn't she? Sometimes the hard won lessons are the best lessons. Ah, if we could only save our kids from having to learn things this way but it's something that has been going on since probably the beginning of humankind. Doesn't make it any easier...

http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/do-supplements-like-glutenease-offer-protection-against-accidentally-eating-gluten/ Do supplements like GlutenEase (or Gluten Cutter, Digest Gluten Plus, Glutenase) offer protection against accidentally eating gluten? We put no validity in these supplements. In fact, they may offer a false sense of protection...

Possible DH - It is driving me crazy
squirmingitch replied to Metoo's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You have to understand that the antibodies have been deposited under the skin. You won't be free of the rash until all the antibodies are gone from under your skin. That can take weeks, months or years. There is no one answer for everyone. DH is like the bastard stepchild of celiac as far as research goes. Celiac has not had enough research & dh has gotten... -
Possible DH - It is driving me crazy
squirmingitch replied to Metoo's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I've never heard anyone say that topical steroids make the rash worse but it's a different story with oral steroids or steroid shots. Glutenings can have different symptoms & severity. We're all individuals but yes, as a general rule, reactions get stronger the longer you are strict gluten free. -
Lentils!
squirmingitch replied to Arduaine's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think it was the lentils. You said they were pre-cooked. That's where your problem lay. When they were precooked, any gluten grains mixed in with them got cooked into them. If you had gotten dried lentils & carefully sorted & washed them as Ennis instructed then you wouldn't have gotten cross contaminated. In the case of lentils, I would NEVER eat... -
Possible DH - It is driving me crazy
squirmingitch replied to Metoo's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Nooooooooooooo on the cortisone shot!!!! Oral steroids or steroid shots will work BUT when the steroids are done there is a backlash of the rash that will make you wish you had never been born!!!! Trust me, been there, done that! Dapsone has a lot of side effects. Read up on it before you jump in the arena. Many here have tried it and the majority had... -
This is an entire thread with photos of dh. This is a thread devoted entirely to things people have found helped alleviate their pain, itch, sting, burn of dh.

My test results
squirmingitch replied to Amber C's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Then are you positive you aren't getting cross contaminated somewhere? I take it the anemia is reflected in blood tests? Read the Newbie 101. It will help you determine if you really are as gluten free as you think you are.
