I've found a key factor in ' Curing Celiac Disease '
squirmingitch replied to Zprime's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am also curious as to the blood tests & the results of them. Will you please get a copy & post them along with their reference ranges? There are 6 tests in the full celiac serum panel. They are: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide ... -

Interesting! Just to add to this..... I am a suthunuh & mom always bought hominy grits. I knew what made hominy grits different than ordinary grits or rather I should say I knew what made hominy corn different because I asked & mom explained that hominy was treated with lye to soften it but I don't recall anything about the process allowing the niacin...

This!!!!! A thousand times THIS!!!!!! I am positive this is off putting to new people. I'm not a new people & it's come very close to driving me away and I mean that with every fiber of my being. I see Posterboy & my mind screams. Here we go with the pellagra post again and if it isn't that, it's some other nutrient deficiency. He's so single minded...

Itchy skin
squirmingitch replied to Jenni Hanks's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How did the dermatologist take the biopsy of the rash? ON a lesion or on CLEAR skin ADJACENT to a fresh lesion? What did the term write down for the pathologist? Did the derm say he/she wanted to rule out dh? IF you have dh, be aware that it can come & go whether you're eating gluten or not. You see, the antibodies get deposited under the skin &... -
Celiac test questions
squirmingitch replied to chocolatesunrise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're so welcome! OK, so it just looks like you're one of those weird testers. LOL! Nothing wrong with that. We get all kinds of people on here with "not the usual" test results. Sometimes I wonder if the medical profession really knows what's "the usual" or not. But hey, that's why there's more than 1 test in the full panel and thank goodness b/c it caught... -
Celiac test questions
squirmingitch replied to chocolatesunrise's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It only takes 1 positive on the celiac serum panel to trigger going forward with an endoscopic biopsy for celiac disease. With a positive DGP IgG, you have that. http://www.cureceliacdisease.org/faq/are-raised-dgp-igg-levels-an-early-sign-of-celiac-disease/ Cyclinglady only tests positive on the DGP IgA if I recall correctly & she is biopsy... -
And stay clear of oats for a very minimum of 6 months preferably a year. Many of us with dh react even to purity protocol grown oats.

Has anyone else’s DH looked like this?
squirmingitch replied to Misitch10's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
It can leave purple marks. They fade & disappear with time. I'm not sure I would describe it as muscle pain exactly but it certainly causes inflammation in the area & that inflammation does travel along the nerves. I've had areas where I would describe it as a bruised feeling or a sore feeling. Did you go gluten free before getting the skin... -
Do you have a dx of dh? If so, & you are in the US, then a dx of dh IS a dx of celiac disease and no other testing is required. Maybe you are trying to get a celiac diagnosis? If you have active/new dh lesions AND you last had gluten within the last couple of days, then start eating gluten right now & go get a dh biopsy done. There is no answer...

Firstly, you imply that companies used to be prohibited from putting gluten-free on the label if it was processed in a plant that processed wheat. That would not be a true statement. Companies have never been barred form making a gluten-free claim even though the product was made in a facility where wheat also was. Barilla says their gluten-free pasta...

I didn't realize you are in the UK. Yes, I understand it could take a good while before you can get an endoscopy done. Did the dermatologist tell you that you could stop eating gluten or to keep eating it or was nothing said about that at all? I take it it was the dermatologist who scheduled the appt. with the Gastro? Since I don't know all the in's...

Great replies by Karen & knitty kitty. I just want to caution you Booster79 to make a copy of the info. Karen linked you to & take it with you to the gastroenterologist BECAUSE they don't often know 1) about dh 2) that a positive biopsy of dh IS a positive dx of celiac disease in & of itself 3) the villi damage in those of us with dh tends to...

squirmingitch replied to Solafide3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Erica, I don't know what your neurologist did exactly as blood tests but there is no such thing as a blood test for non celiac gluten sensitivity. At least not a blood test that has been medically proven. You need to ask the doc why he/she gave you that diagnosis -- based on what? NCGS can be diagnosed based upon elimination of other things including celiac... -

Please Help DH rash on genitals?
squirmingitch replied to MakkyZ's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Frangipani, If after 19 years of eating gluten-free, you are still getting dh then you are still getting glutened. Perhaps too often getting cross contamination or perhaps you are so sensitive that even the certified gluten-free foods have too much gluten for you. As to the dermatologist, You do realize don't you that you can not be tested for... -

Oh dear! I didn't see Gem had posted -- I never got a notification. Nor did I get a notification for your post GFinDC. That's really weird that I should have to "watch" my own thread. OK so whatever, I'm watching my own thread now. LOL! Thanks Gemini! Actually my best friend & her hubby take (or took) LDN for umpteen years. I'm not sure if they...

So… I'm a coeliac
squirmingitch replied to OrangesAndMelons's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There could be something wrong. I went to 6 OB/GYN's in 4 years trying to get one of them to acknowledge what I was telling them. My periods were basically non existent. A mini pad for one day would only have one spot on it. Sheesh! They have you fill out paperwork that ASKS if there are any changes; when you say yes & write it out, you expect them to... -

How to Handle Going Out to Eat with Celiac
squirmingitch replied to vvicin02's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
vvicin02 How about trying totally gluten-free restaurants? Are there any within reasonable distance from you? That way you could feel comfortable & you & your wife get to go out once in a while. Personally I am far too sensitive to risk eating out at all and we have no completely gluten-free eateries anywhere near us.
