  1. If it weren't for the fact that I'm working today, I would have totally forgotten that it's tax day. It's been over two months since I filed. But, my best friend who I sub for is also a tax accountant so she's busy playing tax hero today and I get to babysit her students. Next year I'll be more up on this stuff as I'll be neck deep in taxes again myself....
  2. Prayers, hugs, good thoughts and crossed fingers. You know, because seriously you and her can take all you can get. She can't catch a freakin break, poor girl! Almost there though! And yes, enjoy the little ones. Having them there to brighten your day I'm sure is a perfectly timed blessing for you.
  3. I had a long day myself. Hours on the phone, then hours out of the house doing necessary errands. Lots of insurance and SSD calls and errands, and picking up meds for hubs and me. I came home after having some kid whose parent wouldn't control them in the SS office step on my left foot and ram their head into my thigh (setting me on fire and making me feel...
  4. I've been trading work for my accountant friend for a Comic Con ticket. Wooo!!! Can't wait for Saturday. We're having a girls' geek day. This is my first one and I'm super excited. I've been spending my whole morning dealing with... crap. Insurance stuff. Social Security stuff. Employer stuff from my husband's employer. Just not the most enjoyable things...
  5. I don't know who thought up putting Talenti on a stick and dipping it in chocolate but they deserve a Nobel Prize or something. I've been eying them at a local store for a while, deciding which flavor I want first when they go on sale.
  6. What does a cow have 4 of that a woman only has 2 of? Legs! What were you thinking?!?!
  7. The next time I get a coupon for Tortillaland I'll get a pack and see what I think. I'm always happy for a recommendation. Yeah, living in a hotbed of Hispanic immigrants really spoils me with some good food. Getting food from people who barely speak English when I speak exactly enough Spanish to find a bathroom in an emergency is probably running with scissors...
  8. Sounds like a blast! But she's your mom and it'll all work out and fun will be had. Or, you know, I live in the desert, if you decide you need a road trip for reasons of unspecified origin. Just sayin'. Also, every time my mother told me not to get smart I was always "what? You want me to be stupid?" She would just glare at me because what could she say...
  9. Very excited. We went out today because I had my follow up appointment, and we stopped at the store on the way home for a great deal on Chex. Well the store was doing some sort of smoked ribs or whatever. Sometimes they do this just because, and sometimes it's a fundraiser sort of thing. Without any expectations or hopes, I went and asked if their ribs were...
  10. I am so with your mom on this one! Dusting is the most stupid thing ever. And my mom had shelves put on the walls (not a few, we're talking more than a dozen at 3 feet long each) just to hold a bunch of freakin knick-knacks and crap. Then she's all "go dust" and meant to pick up every, single, thing, and dust, and put them all back exactly where they came...
  11. Stuff is good for dinner. Glad you're mending. We're having do-overs of the meat. I made some more puffs this afternoon when I wanted a snack so I'll have those and some sort of veggie or something. I had one of those days where everything went wrong, and the longer the day went on the more things there were going wrong. So finally I gave up before...
  12. Scored a sale at the store, and I managed real cooking tonight. Balsamic and rosemary marinated London broil with sugared rainbow carrots and garlic green beans. And I got out of the house today and got all my starters planted. Mostly my husband did all the real work. I sat on the concrete and scooped potting soil into the pots and pushed seeds in. He...
  13. I hope your ankle gets better fast! Ooooh, did you get the Tortillaland ones? I've been thinking of trying them. For about a year now lol! I keep almost buying them then I don't because I'm scared they'll suck. Let me know how they are. I really hope I didn't lead you all astray and that you all like this flour as much as I do. I think it's just the...
  14. I only just read the description on that blog about them. I couldn't at first because my internet was acting funny and wouldn't load the page and I checked it on my phone. Anywho, when she says they're all light and fluffy, they really are! And they were last night too. Full of air holes and lightness and awesomeness. I don't know why I'm shocked every time...
  15. Yup, that's the recipe. When it says grease the muffin pan, it means with something serious. No goofing off with light oils. Coconut oil may work, never tried it. (I'm a newb with it myself.) Butter works really well. Olive oil will leave them sticking. You may have to run a knife around them to get them out. Yeah, the price on the flour is silly online...
  16. I keep finding more and more gluten-free things at Costco. Not just naturally, but specialty items. I was still totally shocked when I walked down the baking aisle and found flour! It's Premium Gold Flax flour. I get it way http://www.flaxpremiumgold.com/Flax-and-Whole-Grain-All-Purpose-Flour_c12.htm I'm getting it a lot cheaper than what the website lists...
  17. I'd totally just plant my mint right in the ground in the plot where the fruit trees are if it wouldn't cause my MIL to have a total fit. I'm pretty sure though that she'd have heart failure or something. I ended up finding the ambition for a bread-type object. There is a recipe in my Better Homes & Gardens cookbook for something called Nun's Puffs...
  18. It's just about 2, and I've finally gotten a shower, some pain killers in me, and am ready to face the day. I procrastinate a bit. Stoopid CRPS is really complicating this recovery process, keeping the pain lingering longer than it should. But I'm still improving day by day so I can't complain too much. I'll be out to the yard in a bit to water my mint. We...
  19. Yeah... she's not ever coming back. I'm not sure her husband knew what he was getting into letting her go alone. I'm still waiting for days I can be awake a whole day without naps. Too tired today for cooking so I think I'll make burgers and a veggie, something super quick and super easy. At least all this napping and being too tired for anything but...
  20. Last night I made cornbread to have with my leftover chili. It was my first cornbread that my husband liked. Yay! Instead of trying all these new recipes for gluten-free cornbread I finally gave up, and decided there was no reason not to use my tried and true recipe. I went back to my Betty Crocker cookbook and used that recipe with my AP flour. I may add...
  21. Glad you were able to get out to the game. I'm doing fine, as fine as I expected. I'm sore, but slowing cutting back on my meds so I'm a little more lucid a little more often. I managed to make black bean chili for dinner tonight, with a little help. I am so enjoying fresh meals. It's amazing what you take for granted when you never think you'll have...
  22. Apparently it has been decided that I'm allowed to use the oven. So I'm baking some chicken tonight. Yay!!! Not frozen meals. Carrots and maybe rice or something with it. Insurance companies and everything about them are designed to just piss people off. I had to spend hours on the phone between my PT and insurance, then spend a weekend waiting for a...
  23. Rainbow carrots are carrots that aren't orange. They're purple, red, yellow and white. Every color tastes a little different, but they all still taste like carrots. I got a huge bag of them really cheap a while ago and blanched and froze them. Now I have a freezer full of beautiful carrots. I think tomorrow I'll probably start to have time that I'm actually...
  24. Awww, I'm so sorry it didn't go well for you. But at least you got awesome bread out of it! I hope it wasn't just awesome because you were drugged. LOL! Feel better soon! I'm sure my MIL who is always worried about appearances is thrilled with this, but I've been getting short walks out front all day yesterday. Today I should be good to walk to the other...
  25. I know she has her own challenges that make things difficult. I'm sure she is fine too. I just wanted to hear how her cool robot surgery went and hopefully see her pop her head in and just say hi, and that she generally feels like hell, or whatever, because I'm sure we both do, and she can go back to whatever. At least if she reads this she knows we're thinking...
