  1. In case no one knew, today is NATIONAL BROWNIE DAY! Have a brownie, it's practically a rule.
  2. Get better! Sometimes our hurling isn't from gluten so maybe it was something else? I'll live in denial with you. Not a lot of places have Daisy around here. It's weird. But we have a "local" large dairy called Darigold and Costco carries a 3 pound tub of their sour cream that I picked up this week. Two ingredients. My husband was all "do we really...
  3. Earlier this week my husband was joking about hating something I cooked. Then he was like "and I hate your meatloaf too!" I was like omg, we haven't had meatloaf in forever! So, I put it on our menu, it's meatloaf night. I love meatloaf so much, it's such a comfort food. And it's perfect for our cold weather. I think I'll make some brown sugar squash and...
  4. Hahaha! No one here knows how to drive in the rain either, which I totally get because it rarely rains here. But we get what I don't even call rain and people are all going 20 in 40 zones acting like it's a foot of snow. I avoid driving in the rain because it makes me want to strangle people. Our foot Monday was fine, it fell, they plowed, everything was...
  5. I always find that hilarious! If you don't watch the weather closely you'll find out that you have gone to the store to get milk because it happens to be on your grocery list and there IS NONE! So you ask and are like wth and they're all "there's a storm" and look at you like you're a moron for not having come at 6 in the morning because obviously they were...
  6. Also, I use cornstarch on my cheese when I shred it. I imagine that using any starch would work though. I only use cornstarch because I buy it in 25 pound bulk bags for way less than I pay for my other starches. I probably end up using probably around 2-3 teaspoons for a pound of cheese, or something like that. I just sprinkle a little on after each bit I...
  7. I forgot you're down there in ice country. I have family down there and they say it's crazy bad. Thankfully though no one seems to have lost power over this whole thing. Stay warm!
  8. I'd be bigger around than I am tall if I worked in a candy store. See's candies are good stuff too, it's a good thing they're at a far end in our mall or I'd always get some when I go. We ran errands today, and it ended up taking longer than expected because we did Christmas stuff too. After 7 hours on the go I was in so much pain I was barely capable...
  9. Usually if I'm being responsible I buy blocks of cheddar at Costco. I have a shredder attachment for my KitchenAid so it's super easy to shred myself, and I just sprinkle a little starch on it, mix it up really well and it stores without getting clumpy. Or, if I haven't been responsible I just pick up whatever cheddar or Mexican blend catches my eye at the...
  10. FYI on the crackers. If you can't find them, use the contact page on their website and they'll let you know what stores in your area have ordered them. That's what I had to resort to. Apparently I positively insane tonight. The high today was 13 and it's 5 now. Tonight is the local celiac group's cookie party and I'm totally going. A little cold weather...
  11. Breton crackers! They make two gluten free flavors now. They are true crackers, with the texture and flavor of... crackers! When I didn't grab all of the crackers on the shelf yesterday my husband said he was surprised. I was like I could get more and turned around. He grabbed me arm.
  12. I love Delallo pasta. I got something like 3 or 4 bags of it in all my goodies for the Expo and it didn't last long. Patience isn't a virtue. That's just something people say to get you to shut the heck up while you wait through something tortuous and awful. (like for biscotti) Ok, so... crackers. These aren't just crackers that taste like crackers...
  13. We have about a foot of snow in the back yard. A FOOT!!! I don't live in the mountains, I live in the valley. In the 8(ish) years I've been here there has never been that much snow in a single day. I'm sure it's a skiers paradise, but other than my trek for marshmallows for my hot chocolate yesterday I'm going to keep myself cozied up and toasty in the house...
  14. Today to go with our first real snowfall (everything before didn't count because it couldn't be measured in inches) the crockpot is out. Nothing fancy, just a beef roast with veggies, but a perfect meal for the first snow of the winter. We'll probably have cocoa tonight too, as has been our habit more often than not lately. Although I am out of marshmallows...
  15. We'll clean out the last of our leftovers tonight. Ugh... back to cooking tomorrow. Being out of stuffing is also mildly heartbreaking. I guess I have to go back to eating normal food tomorrow. I suppose I'll probably survive, but I'm definitely getting the crockpot out this week because I'm feeling lazy.
  16. I think I'm probably having the same thing everyone else is having today. And it doesn't get to be a dirty word today. Leftovers. I made Rudi's stuffing, just the bag stuff, but with a recipe with onions and celery and such... only it had apples. I kept thinking while I was making it how weird it was, but I made it anyway and it was awesome. It isn't weird...
  17. You guys are making me look like such a slacker. It's true though, I just don't have my heart in Thanksgiving this year. Christmas though will be cookies, pies, and more food than I can shake a peppermint chocolate covered pretzel stick at. I can only get so excited about cooking for two people every so often. Glad everyone is keeping their fingers attached...
  18. Doing the Thanksgiving thing today. I got a boneless turkey roast because I really don't want to cook a whole turkey for 2 people. I have a bag of Rudi's stuffing and a can of cranberry sauce, the kind that looks like a can when you eventually get it out. Can't help it, I grew up with it and love the stuff. I'm sure I'll make mashed potatoes to put gravy...
  19. Tonight is chili. Quick, easy, practically no clean up since it's all in one pan and serves out of one dish. It'll make an easy microwave lunch for tomorrow too to get me through until dinner. I am so positively thrilled to be able to have at least some beans again. This is really going to make winter a lot more appealing.
  20. Wouldn't we all! Last night we had chicken cheddar bacon ranch quesadillas and horchata. We have some leftover chicken so my husband wants the same tonight. I finally found Breton crackers (after emailing the company in desperation begging them for information) and they told me what local stores have ordered them. I can not describe in words what heavenly...
  21. I promote that stereotype too! I'm all baking and cooking and having dinner ready when my husband gets home from work. Sometimes I feel like I need one of those dresses Donna Reed wore. I actually also do my hair in pin curls because I refuse to damage it with heat styling. I'm such a stereotype it's sickening!
  22. My board says George, so I guess it's ham for dinner. I'll make some sort of potatoes and veggies to go with it. I think I have some bread in the freezer that will probably work well as a gravy delivery device. Apparently I've gone... however long it's existed without knowing about fitnessblender. I've discovered it has workouts that I'm semi-capable...
  23. I love peas! That whole trip to the store for a salad thing didn't work out. The barely above freezing weather and wind was enough to convince me that I'm not that interested in salad. Burger and sweet potato fries.
  24. Well, I managed to make hard boiled eggs without burning the house down! My husband thinks I'm weird whenever I do it, but I made myself a ginormous salad for dinner. A huge huge bowl of lettuce, topped with sliced ham, diced chicken, a boiled egg, a very light sprinkle of cheese and ranch. It sounds crazy, but it was only a little of each so it wasn't like...
  25. At least you didn't have to go another night suffering as a mere mortal with mortal food. Tonight is our "eat whatever you want night" that lets my husband eat something gluteny and I can eat something he won't like. I don't know what I'll throw together, but whatever it is it'll be simple. Whatever could go wrong today, did. At this rate I'll be surprised...
