  1. I rethought last night's plans. I forgot I had grabbed a pork loin at the store on sale so I just threw that in the oven for dinner. Tonight we'll do burgers because I'm subbing a night class and won't be home til about 9ish. I have no interest in anything that takes more effort than my counter grill and microwave tonight. You should get extra credit...
  2. As long as you are in the US it would by law be required to list that it was from wheat it if was in fact from wheat. It is beyond ridiculously unlikely that it would be from rye or barley... like, ridiculous. It is almost certainly corn or tapioca or potatoes. Just another myth that needs to die. ETA: I guess I could have googled this sooner but Bullseye...
  3. Mothers have been emotionally blackmailing their children for untold centuries. Besides, in the words of every mother who has ever done this to her child... "its for your own good!"
  4. Hubs is working tonight til 8 so we have a very small window to eat and get out of the house. Burgers and fries and out the door when he gets home. It may not be healthy, but it will get us through our night. I forgot to get up early to do errands before the middle of the day. Oops. I guess I can go this evening before dinner. Last night I was standing...
  5. IDK you guys, sounds like the sort of thing that could be contagious. I managed to get my mint in pots and all three (short) rows of corn in the ground tonight. My husband probably thinks I'm a little weird for gardening barefoot. Oh well, he can think what he likes. I like walking in the dirt in my bare feet.
  6. I had some errands today that couldn't be put off. It seems I have decided to become allergic to the sun. I have a positively beautiful rash from it. I don't think I want to play the is it just from exposure or is it from a product/food and exposure combo game. I will simply avoid the sun midday. Now that I am home, and totally beat I am just going to...
  7. That is super exciting news! Hopefully she'll be feeling better soon.
  8. I'll take it! I'm totally certifiable I guess. On top of the hot weather I decided to flip on the oven and make meatloaf tonight. I also made pasta with a ricotta sauce which my husband wouldn't go near. Apparently he has a delicious food intolerance.
  9. Can you send that breeze this way? We've gone from spring to summer here! We're in the 80s now and sunny and just too hot and icky for me. I love the 60s and maybe low 70s, but now being outside just saps my strength and leaves me beat. Going to have to get up pretty early tomorrow to beat the sun to plant corn.
  10. I grab hot pan handles all the time. Like at least once or twice a month. I swear my husband must think he married an idiot. At this point he is over the sympathy and his response is usually "hot things are hot." This would also require our kids to be multiplying like rabbits or tribbles in the schools. Also not good.
  11. I think this is a great point. Mother's Day isn't just for the mothers who have biological children, but for everyone who has ever mothered. Many may never have their own but are still every bit a mother. Happy Mother's Day to everyone!
  12. Skipping real cooking today. I seared a roast beautifully and threw in it my crockpot this morning and am totally off the hook besides a veggie, some taters and some gravy. Easy peasy.
  13. I've been through Vail a few times. Once was at night in the snow and it was magical and surreal. Oh... and scary as hell on those roads! Tonight is grilled chicken breasts, I'll think of something or other to season them. And probably some fried green beans and some oven taters. I am still positively exhausted from a long week. Hopefully I will fare...
  14. Probably due to being in the middle of nowhere. I grew up in one of those middle of nowhere places, thanks but no thanks!
  15. Burgers, fries and fried zucchini tonight.
  16. We've had rain every day this week. Really bizarre weather we're having. I swear sometimes with the way our weather syncs up we could be next door neighbors!
  17. Tonight we'll have the little bit of leftover pork loin from last night. I think I'll make some buckwheat cakes and maybe some fried apples to go with it. I was out way too late last night, I need a nap before I have to feed my man.
  18. For the record, my husband says my muffins are the best thing I ever baked. He also thinks it is a crime that I am taking the best thing I ever baked away from him to share with other people. I told him I just need more flour (I used every bit of my sorghum) and I'll make him more right away. I can not recommend making this enough. I made mini ones and just...
  19. Is there anything else that you always use when you use the curry powder? If not, I would also highly suspect one of the spices.
  20. Seriously! Running is for things like the zombie apocalypse. I'm not even sure I'd run if one was chasing me. I mean, why die all tired, out of breath, with terrible cramps and miserable? Besides, with my celiac addled brain I'm counting on the zombies leaving me alone. Nothing here for them anyway. (BTW, he still has all 10 of his toes! So he...
  21. Nobody ever misses wood stove dust, but you'll find that on occasion when you're far away from there and happen to catch a wisp of a wood stove burning it will immediately bring to mind pictures of "home." Even if home is thousands of miles away now. At least... it has worked that way for me and nearly a decade hasn't changed that. My husband, very fortunately...
  22. You will have a beautiful new world to experience and explore. For every ending there is a new beginning also. Our power went out in a storm this evening so there was no cooking to be done. Desperate and bored we headed to the $1 theater. (Yes, we have one of those!) We stopped at a health food store so I could get a snack since I was starving and I ended...
  23. In hiding. I've been debating all day what I'll feel like eating. I think I may just be able to eat real food tonight. Yay! I'm surprised that a lot of the sensitivity I had with the temp bridge is gone with the real one in place. That doesn't help with the muscle and joint pain I still have, but that is still every so slooooooooowly improving. So, since...
  24. I guess I'll know tomorrow or Wednesday if I'm employed or not. I can wait. I think. Patience and I still have not become friends. I tasted a little piece of my panela since this is the first time I bought this type of fresh cheese and it is really good. I can't wait to fry it later. I think I'll probably just do some fried zucchini while I'm frying things...
  25. Glad your slow cooker thinger is getting some use! Mine is today with a pork roast. I'll also be picking up some Panela at the market and making some fried cheese to use up that berry mustard sauce. One of these days I'll get up the guts to try different types of beans. The few I have tried have all turned out badly and right now I'm just no up to losing...
