  1. Yes, yes it could. This is what happens when you put a bunch of us girls together! And yes, weird traditions are by far the best. If they make other people look at you kind of funny and question your sanity, you are definitely doing it right!
  2. Some people have such weird traditions. I'm assuming you still have electricity tonight to cook Fred the Lasagne? Hopefully it stays that way for you!
  3. Encore George. What exactly is Encore George? Well, every year we name our ham (or turkey for Thanksgiving) and this year we named him George. Before bed I'll have my stock finished and the rest of George will be canned to be parsed out through the remainder of the year. Also, I think I just made my husband feel bad. I'm all about lemon or lime, not...
  4. I wish I had remembered candied bacon! I used just a few slices in my cornbread pudding and had a bunch leftover and just cooked some for my husband. Normal, regular, frying in a pan. Obviously I'm a terrible wife, feeding my man ordinary bacon on Christmas. I'm glad your men were happy. Mine seemed happy just to have a hot breakfast, that doesn't happen...
  5. Snow I will take. We got another half a foot so far today and it is still coming down out there. The idea of hurtling myself down a mountain in the freezing cold? Pass. I will sip some cocoa and think of you though! You're a riot! I'm a little slow tonight so I had to reread that to get it. I've polished off half a bottle of non-alcoholic sangria...
  6. Some people have a one track mind. I got some! We have half a foot of fresh snow and it is awesome. I hope everyone who got some is staying safe and warm today. I felt a little stupid not having orange sugar for the orange cookies, but I bought what was available. You know, they're just the cookies out of the back of the December Living Without. I...
  7. Done baking in plenty of time to rest up, clean the kitchen and make some dinner later. I'm just about ready to crawl back into some toasty warm jammies. I have more snow on order and want my pants to still fit at the end of the week so anyone who wants to come help me eat all these cookies is more than welcome to! I've got ginger snaps and orange cream filled...
  8. First kind of cookies, done! I may have eating a half dozen or so while they were still dough. Getting done in time with all my cookies so I can cook supper is not looking good. Especially since I can't be on my feet too long at once without terrible cramping so I need frequent breaks to let my legs rest. Oh well, I guess we're having cookies for supper...
  9. My cookies still have not made themselves. Turns out though that today is a perfect Christmas Eve. It is snowing lightly, I have a few errands to run, but nothing urgent. I'll get it all done before lunch. Heck, I'm still in my jammies at my computer at 9:30. Before dinner I'll have the counter covered in fresh baked cookies, the yard will have a few...
  10. I managed to make dinner tonight. Fried up some beef tips and hash browns. Miraculously I also managed to somehow wake up sicker today than yesterday after sleeping for 12 hours. I am, without a doubt, going to be spending Christmas sick. Sure beats spending it recovering from surgery! In my infinite wisdom though I forgot to list parchment paper on my shopping...
  11. Made up words do not require proper spelling. Please excuse my hasty exit before IH gets her hands on me for saying so.
  12. The good news is that my husband is finally entirely out of spaghetti sauce in the freezer. The bad news is that that left me with no clue what to make, I was left resorting to steak and beans. Poor us! I'm not sure if I want to take on a new sauce recipe tomorrow or wait until after Christmas. I'm fighting a killer sinus infection and already need...
  13. I haven't made any yet due to my whole not supposed to be eating bacon thing but, how does someone find out that it would last 4 weeks? I mean, the idea that anyone remotely human with working taste buds could make it last even half that long is beyond my comprehension.
  14. If only we could all get there I am quite sure we could all find a way to keep those boys warm.
  15. The ONLY thing I miss about being back "home" in PA rather than out here in wonderful, dry UT is my dad and brother and their hunting. I do not miss lake effect snow. I do not miss summers so humid it is like trying to breathe soup. Oh the other hand, my brother shot 6 deer this season. My dad has brought home elk, buffalo, moose, and bear that I recall immediately...
  16. I have a stupid naked tree. In a box. In my closet under my stairs. I was supposed to make a roast last night but got around to my peanut brittle late and then... well my roast is still sitting in it's package today judging me. I have some potatoes to use up, I'm sure I'll think of something to do with them. I'm working today and there is snow and ice...
  17. Oh, I remember. I'm still debating what to do for my birthday. Tiramisu... pink champagne cake.... key lime cake... just go out for red velvet cupcakes... I don't know!!! I'd have all of them but someone hasn't come through on the muumuus yet.
  18. I love lamb. Bear? Now there is greasy gross animal. Blech, my dad can keep those to himself if he shoots another. Yuck! I agree that elk is good, moose too.
  19. I do have eczema and have since I was a teen. If possible (and not embarrassing) I would try to get a few pics or maybe just check out what you can find in the DH forums. You want to be sure you aren't confusing eczema for DH. I'm special.... I have both! I was advised by my dermatologist when I was first diagnosed with eczema to use Eucerin lotion...
  20. I really should learn to do 2 things. First is go to bed at a reasonable time. It is leaning towards midnight and well, here I am. Second, I should learn to think things through before speaking or typing. I have the feeling that is going to bite me one day and leave me quite a sore butt. I got ambitious enough after a nap to actually cook something...
  21. I don't generally do perky, but for scallops and risotto there is little I wouldn't do. Yes, do enjoy your dinner tonight and happy birthday to the grump. Me? I seem to have this problem where I stay up way too late and when my alarm goes off I'm swear that tonight I'll go to bed at a reasonable time. Then before I know what happened the clock...
  22. My baby cousin who was about 1 1/2 at the time spit out bacon and wouldn't try it again. I promptly took the opportunity to point out to my husband that it is his blood relation, not mine. Seriously, who spits bacon out?
  23. Trustfall chicken. Yeah, its a real thing. So I got turned on to the website cookingcomically.com via a friend's facebook post. I happened to pick up a whole chicken at the store and just used it instead of legs. For the record, dissecting a whole chicken is not my idea of a good time at 7 in the morning.
  24. That is so awesome!! I have a similarly cool compliment I got. I grew up in my grammy's kitchen. (More or less. It's where all my best memories are.) Every Saturday morning we would bake together all morning then feed lunch to whatever men were around. Sometimes just my grandpa, sometimes it seems hordes of them were there helping out at the sawmill...
