Thank you, Scott! I think as usual I am behind the times. You are right, bread machines don't seem to be the rage they were several years ago. It's been at least 10 years since I've used mine and actually gave it away a few years ago because I knew I wouldn't be using it anymore. I liked using mine because there was so much more variety of breads to make...

I was diagnosed and have been eating gluten-free for 10 years - things were fine until a year ago when I developed diarrhea and then constipation and other unpleasant poop symptoms which persist right up until now. I had a colonoscopy 8 months ago and that was fine except for one polyp which was removed. Blood tests for celiac were negative. Because of...

Can you get DH as a new symptom later on?
JaneWhoLovesRain replied to cristiana's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Honestly, when my rash was at it's worst (or even it's best) there was nothing that helped. It hurt, itched, stung, burn; even taking a shower was extremely uncomfortable. I used a benadryl topical spray to help with the itching and my doctor told me to use cetaphil soap which I did. The benadryl helped somewhat. Not sure if the soap helped but it didn... -
Can you get DH as a new symptom later on?
JaneWhoLovesRain replied to cristiana's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Yes! I do love rain, and snow, which we are getting a ton of today. When I first developed the rash on my neck I went to the doctor and he said psoriasis. The must be standard answer doctors give for rashes that they have no answer for. I told him I never had posriasis before and he asked me if my parents had allergies. I told him my mother had hay... -
EZ Gluten testing
JaneWhoLovesRain replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I did do a search for the ingredients of my prescription and most of them are a bunch of chemical names. The only one that looked suspect was "talc." But that's a long shot. If anything I suspect it would be some kind of cross contamination. I've thought of going to the pharmacist but most likely the response would be along the line of "the company doesn... -
I eat Lundberg rice and have never had a problem. The bag is labeled certified gluten free and I'm comfortable with that. I get their brown rice. I don't know if their other brands are labeled as such or not but it would be easy to take a look and see. Their wild rice blends may not be gluten-free (just a guess). Not sure what to say about the iodized...

The new gluten free Oreo cookies are delicious!!! Almost impossible to tell the difference between these and the gluten filled ones. The only thing I notice as being different is the size, they seem a little smaller. But it's been so long since I've had an Oreo that they may have shrunk in size over the year. I'm trying to limit myself to one or two...

Can you get DH as a new symptom later on?
JaneWhoLovesRain replied to cristiana's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I developed DH almost 2 years after going gluten-free. Turns out the puffed rice was eating (and it was in the gluten-free aisle) was processed in a non-dedicated facility and there was nothing on the package that said "gluten free." Good chance that there was cross contamination and that's where I got my dh from. I learned a lesson from that. Interesting... -
Hi - I just tested one of my prescription medications with the EZ Gluten test kit and it came out "very high positive" which surprised me. In looking at the FAQ's on the EZ Gluten site they say they can't guarantee the results for non-food items (such as meds, toiletries, supplements). I'm wondering if anyone here has tested their meds with a positive result...

I knew there was no way I could get down the 48-64 oz of suprep or go-litely in an hour's time and then do it again in the morning so it was either give me something else or I won't have this test. I was prescribed PREPOPIK which was wonderful compared to the other stuff. Mix one packet in 5 oz of water and drink. Over the next 5 hours drink five ...

(yes, I know this is an old topic, but . . . .) I need to avoid anything with CHICORY ROOT or INULIN. This is one of the main ingredients used in fiber bars to get things moving along. The amount in a Kind bar is probably less than in a fiber bar but still is enough to cause a problem. I used to eat their peanut butter granola with no problem, then picked...

I love this granola as it tastes good and has so few ingredients! They have several different kinds but this is the only one that is labeled gluten free. Down below (taken from their web site) it says "certified gluten-free whole grain rolled oats." The actual package I have does say gluten free on the packaging but in the list of ingredients it says ...

Hi - when I first saw the dermatologist for my rash he quickly looked at and said I had LSC. I never heard of this so went home and googled it and was rather insulted to read that it is very common among those in nursing homes and psychiatric hospitals. And like you the description and pictures did not match what I had. (next visit I was diagnosed with...

Canyon Bakehouse bread and xanthan gum
JaneWhoLovesRain replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Ennis and thank you for your reply. When I make my own muffins I usually use psyllium husk as you recommend. I hope I've learned my lesson and don't buy anything with xanthan gum again. As a gluten free bakery owner would you say that xanthan gum is rather high on the list of ingredients for the Canyon bread? To me it seems to be and because my reaction... -
I finally found a good bread and have been enjoying toast at breakfast for the last 3 days. Xanthan gum has given me problems in the past and I generally avoid it - I thought I would give it one more shot with Canyon's cinnamon raisin bread as it had good ratings. I was doing okay until today when I was stricken with the worst abdominal cramping, bloating...

Thyroid problems - maybe?
JaneWhoLovesRain replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thank you for your very helpful comments. If I go by the two non-standard alternative doctor iodine deficiency/hypothyroid tests I most likely am deficient/hypo. I just took my temp and it's 96.8 (Not a typo and not 98.6). It's almost always below 97 first thing in the am, this morning it was 96.2, and on occasion it's below 96. I've done the iodine patch... -
Thyroid problems - maybe?
JaneWhoLovesRain replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Kitty kitty, thank you for the link. I most likely do have several of these deficiencies but before I start self-supplementing I want to get tested so I know for sure what I'm dealing with. I'm already supplementing with B-12, B-complex, zinc and magnesium but still feel like crap. Your link led me to find the phrase "board certified clinical nutritionist... -
Thyroid problems - maybe?

My GI doctor tested my anitibodies (really not sure which ones though, other than whatever is tested for celiac) last fall and everything was fine. At 60, I'm beyond perimenopause, lol, which I guess is why the doctor says the way I feel is normal for my age. But to me it doesn't feel normal. Dang, how does one know exactly what is "normal?" My PCP refuses... -
High cholesterol/statins
JaneWhoLovesRain replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I asked about measuring the particle density but he didn't feel that was important. He was so narrow and so focused on my high total cholesterol and getting me on statins that he wouldn't even discuss if there is possibly another reason why it is so high despite my excellent diet and daily walking. Then he accused me of being narrow minded because I wanted...- 51 replies

I'm struggling with various vague heath issues - lots of hair loss/thinning, dry hair, extreme insomnia, fatigue, depression, total lack of motivation, unable to concentrate, dry skin, low body temp in the morning, irritability, high LDL, hoarseness, etc. I never would have thought of hypothyroidism as I am not obese, but instead a bit underweight. However...

High cholesterol/statins
JaneWhoLovesRain replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Having an LDL of 158 and total cholesterol of 241 my doctor insisted I had a coronary calcium ct scan to look for build up in the arteries. When it showed I did have plaque he "demanded" (in a very loud and aggressive way) I go on statins, telling me if I don't I'm going to drop dead of a heart attack. I had read Dr Stephen Sinatra's book "The Great Cholesterol...- 51 replies

Hi - I just happened to log in today! When I told the GI doctor I saw (which wasn't unitl a couple of years after going gluten-free) all of my symptoms, he said he was 85% sure I had celiac based on my symptoms alone. He said the only one that didn't fit was the rash BEHIND the knees, he said it should be in the front of the knees. I personally don't think...
