ARCHIVED Mechanisms Behind The Leaky Gut
mle-ii replied to mle-ii's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Ok, I've been reading a lot more about zonulin and what I've read thus far is pretty darn amazing. Of course we all know by now that Zonulin causes these tight junctions, the barrier from the contents of the GI to the other side of the cells, to open. It appears that in folks with celiac disease and even treated celiac disease folks that the tjs are... -
ARCHIVED Cleansing?
mle-ii replied to justme's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is there any science or research behind these cleanses? Colon, liver, etc? Fasting, absolutely I've seen some research and see the benefit. As for cleansing, I've not seen anything yet that leads me to believe that there is any basis in fact here. After having the ultimate colon cleanse (prep for a colonoscopy) I didn't see anything that even... -
ARCHIVED A Question About Enterolab
mle-ii replied to IMResident's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What do you mean by feeling bad? What are your symptoms? As far as how long, 3 months seems like too long for withdrawal symptoms, but this isn't something I know much about. Here's more on what I'm taking about: Open Original Shared Link -

And here's another. Why do folks get depressed or sad during the fall/winter? Is this physical or mental? -
ARCHIVED A Question About Enterolab

Open Original Shared Link Full text here: Open Original Shared Link I don't agree, but that's ok. All you proved to me was that Drs know how to cover up problems by taking care of the symptoms with drugs. Something I already know. Plus this is all subjective, perhaps folks just gave up on therapy because they weren't being... -
ARCHIVED A Question About Enterolab
mle-ii replied to IMResident's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So which is it? Chicken or the egg? Am I sick because I'm depressed or am I depressed because I'm sick? How about admitting that both are valid reasons. Not in in all cases are both the case, but you can have one without the other. I'm not pulling this out of thin air, just do a pubmed search on sugar malabsorption and depression for example. I DO... -

ARCHIVED A Question About Enterolab
mle-ii replied to IMResident's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Exactly, who knows what ranges are really valid. I was thinking about another example of this the other day when looking at calorie formulas. Who's to say that someday down the road we find out that gluten or some other food pathogen causes malabsorption in the majority of folks, so those numbers for calories (or some other measurement) are higher that... -
Haven't seen this here yet, so I thought I'd post this. I was doing some research on zonulin and came across this document: Open Original Shared Link Haven't examined all the science/research, but a quick look at a few parts of the science look very sound. Mike

ARCHIVED My Enterolab Results, Finally!

I have no proof (yet) but given that Gliadin is a substrate for tissue transglutaminase as is Soy it sure does sound like there is potential. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Fear
mle-ii replied to cowrdlyon's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Honestly I was terrified about the procedure and a bit about the outcome. Turns out the prepwork was the most terifying part in the end. (Ha ha, pun intended ) The outcome was not quite what I wanted as it turned out to be a rare disease (Lymphocytic Colitis) of which we know very little. But it did turn out for the positive. I found out that gluten... -
ARCHIVED A Question About Enterolab
mle-ii replied to IMResident's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks! Gotta figure out how you found those. I couldn't figure out a very good query for finding them. So here we show that anti-ttg is not specfic. So therefore we should throw out these results using the same line of thought on stool testing. Clearly something we should NOT do. But again I'm going to bring this up as no one has really commented... -
ARCHIVED A Question About Enterolab
mle-ii replied to IMResident's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Actually it would be a large mistake to tell people who had depression, neuropathy, diarrhea, asthma, pneumonia (and 99% of these are not related to celiac) who removed gluten from their diet and got better that gluten wasn't the problem. Just like it was a huge mistake to tell folks with Ulcers that it was all in their head and that if they had less stress... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Autoimmune Diseases
mle-ii replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Exactly, which is why (I remarked on it in an earlier post) I found the studies showing that certain pathogens (one was a fungi and the other was a virus, that both look like gliadin) weren't the cause of Celiac quite laughable. They said because pathogen A only showed up in X% of cases it wasn't a trigger, others said that because pathogen B only showed... -

You have DQ3 subtype DQ8 (the 0302) and you have DQ1 subtype DQ6 (the 0601). Or in other words DQ8 and DQ6. -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Autoimmune Diseases
mle-ii replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I wanted to remark on gluten being a problem for non-Celiac (what ever that really means). Non-Celiac, do you mean doesn't have the genes, doesn't show antibodies in the blood, doesn't show antibodies in the stool, doesn't have damage done to the villi or something else? One remark is, that one could produce antibodies to any of those that show up in... -

And given what I've learned about the immune system and ttg I'm wondering if the tests are really even the best they could be. The antibodies for everything they test could be explained by some other possible mechanism. Antibodies to gliadin could be explained by the idea of leaky gut, I have a bad enough leaky gut, injest enough gluten the body is bound... -

Excellent idea. DQ2/8 alone doesn't do the trick, but some other marker does, but DQ2/8 are still involved. Yep, and what I found quite interesting recently is that along my path of learning about Tissue Transglutaminase I discovered an amino acid called Coenzyme Q10. In folks who would have malabsorption Q10 is produced in lower amounts. Why might... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Autoimmune Diseases

This is a very good question. And I really don't want folks to experiment or try this on their own. But I think that this very well could be a possibility. From my understanding, someone will correct me I'm sure, is that one's body could lose memory of this pathogen. The only way this would be possible though is to be 100% gluten free for a long time... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Autoimmune Diseases
mle-ii replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is what I think, that it is one of many triggers. Considering the viral and bacterial proteins with similar protein coats. Perhaps you could have had this virus, or candida, or hepatitis, or some other unknown pathogen with a simalar coat. Or even some other mechanism. Yes, indeed other illnesses than edeno, and I've given quite a few of them. ... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Autoimmune Diseases
mle-ii replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
That was pretty interesting. I only read a few articles, but what I noticed was that they're pretty old. Any newer news on this topic, seems like science might have done more research to possibly back him up in the last 13 or so years since those articles have been writen. Thanks! So is there another example of a pathogen that invades a cell... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Other Autoimmune Diseases

UGG!!! I think I may very well be mistaken about reading about celiac and Sickle cell disease. I think that what I remember is thinking about Sickle Cell disease in the context of Celiac. Probably where I got this virus idea. What I think (I'm probably going to have to correct myself again ) I remember reading was that Sickle Cell was protective against... -

Damn, so much good stuff in this thread. Well for me the nerd boy. I'm still not sure I have it clear, but I'm guessing if I read more I'll understand. Let me pose this particular question. Let's say that my dad has gene X1 and X3, and perhaps my mom has X2 and X4, and let's say that there are 5 different versions of this gene. Are you saying that... -
ARCHIVED Celiac's Or Undiagnosed Lyme? Candida? Both?

Given that they think that antibiotics may have lead some folks to start getting ill. Are there any "natural" antibiotics or antifungal foods/supplements or whatever? The human body has done pretty darn well to survive for so long that one would think there were better ways of taking care of this than killing off bacterias that are normal in the gut flora... -
ARCHIVED Warning Imodium Liquid Is Not Gluten Free
mle-ii replied to ms-sillyak-screwed's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Very strange indeed. As I called them and they said that all products were gluten free. The only one that they didn't know about was the new formula liquid imodium. They didn't say it did or did not contain gluten only that it hadn't been tested yet, so he recommended going to the tablet version. I guess I'll have to call again.
